Cloud Computing is here and likely already a part of your life. Alessandro Segala from the Microsoft Azure team will be presenting an introductory talk on Azure.
5. Cloud Computing is the practice of
using a network of remote servers
hosted on the Internet to store,
manage, and process data, rather than
a local server or a personal computer.

Ask: “If I saw cloud, what do you think about?”
(CLICK)
These are CONSUMER cloud services. There’s way more than that
Survey by Citrix, in 2012, on over 1,000 American adults (millennials up)
16% of respondents only understood that the cloud is a computer network
Almost everyone is using the cloud daily: social media, e-banking, online video, photo storage…

You can access your data and your apps with any laptop/tablet/phone, anywhere in the world (excluding China)
Everything is available fast (seconds or minutes) (e.g. opening a new Gmail account)
On-demand: you can increase or reduce your resources as you need them (e.g. different tiers of service for iCloud)
OpEx vs CapEx: no capital investment, no hardware to purchase, rent resources paying every month/year
Save money, sometimes lots of, and save time (e.g. no more backups on an external hard drive)
Security, because your data is in the hands of experts (but always read the terms of service and privacy policy)
First major distinction.
Ask if they know
Focusing on B2B
Second distinction: IaaS, PaaS, SaaS.

[Speaker Guidance: Most of your audience will own a car, and likely be happy with that ownership. This is an analogy to help understand the differences, but don’t try to push the analogy too far. ]
Objective:
Illustrate the differences between IaaS, PaaS and Saas in a simplistic, easy to understand way.
Key talking points:
So what differentiates a developer platform from an infrastructure platform?
It’s pretty simple, there are tiers of responsibility with benefits and tradeoffs between them. For example, to use a car analogy, if you own a car you have to go through the purchase process, buy insurance, maintain and service it over a long period of time, provide parking or garaging (you get the idea).
If you’re renting a car, you get the benefit of a car at your disposal for a fixed time period without any of the overhead of ownership – like maintenance and insurance.
An Uber or a taxi is likely to be the most affordable option, but can have limits on flexibility—you might have to wait five minutes, or maybe stand out in the rain waiting for a ride.
Likewise, building apps on IaaS is a perfectly valid approach. It gives you maximum control and flexibility to run whatever you want—but with added responsibilities.
Conclusion:
If your primary business function isn’t running compute infrastructure, you can get more from your scarce developer time by using an application platform that removes complexity and maintenance responsibility. There might be some trade-off considerations around flexibility, but overall, you can get more done faster and with lower total cost of ownership building on platform as a service (PaaS).
All products are some of the most relevant B2B cloud services, for SaaS and IaaS + PaaS.

Let me clean this up for you a little bit (click)
We do have services for everything: from the basic ones, infrastructure services, to platform ones.
These are IT building blocks you can use in your projects.
Every one of these blocks you provision anytime, self-service anywhere in the world 24x7. You pay for what you use, you can get more or less anytime and you can fully automate everything…

Create a trial account for Azure
Spin up “Wordpress”
Use “MySQL in-app”
