Ponderings from the Pastor’s Desk
It is truly a thrill for me to have been called to serve the people and Community that is Westhampton
Baptist Church. While it is true that we have a rich heritage here at Westhampton, our focus must be on the work
that lies before us. As we go through these first few weeks of the Summer, I will be preaching from the Book of
Acts, which as you know is the story of the first thirty years of the Christian Church. Like those early saints, we
too face many challenges as we seek to make a difference in the world in which we live today. Like those first
apostles, we also have the assignment of bringing the Word of God to a multi-cultural, multi-faith world.
Unlike the times when most of us grew up, the Church is no longer the “center” of our community…
Sundays are no longer reserved for Church and family, and even Christianity has seemingly taken a “back seat” to
sporting events, hobbies, and getting things done around the house. While we as Christians today are not facing
the brutal persecutions of the early faithful, and the idols of today’s secularism (money, fame, power, influence)
are much more subtle than the carved images and false gods of the first century, they are no less dangerous.
Christians around the world, but especially in “free” counties like the United States, are becoming more difficult to
distinguish from the non-Christians; Or to paraphrase the Apostle Paul, we are becoming more “OF the world”. I
fear we have already lost many of one generation, the Millennials (those born between 1980 and 2000), and are at
great risk of losing the GenZ (born 2001- today) as well.
And so as I begin my ministry here at Westhampton Baptist Church, I hope you will join with me in this
study as we seek to “get back to the basics”. We will examine the many different roles that need to be filled and
take a closer look at how each one of us can have a part in the next Great Reformation in Christianity. I look
forward to many exciting years here at WBC, and ask for your prayers and your participation.

The Library Corner of Our Church
Sunday School Update
We have added updated magazines to our Library. Even though they are not
current, you may find interesting articles, home decorating ideas, garden ideas
or recipes. Please feel free to take any you would like to read or pass on to
family and/or friends.
We will discuss Please Understand Me by David Keirsey and Marilyn Bates
on July 28th
. My copy is tattered due to years of use. The goal of the book is
to help you understand yourself as well as others (especially your loved ones).
It will develop skills you may not have know you possessed. We would love
for everyone in the church to read this Myers/Briggs testing literature. I have
purchased two for our Library which will be available to all after Book Club
meets in July. The first sentence “If I do not want what you want, please try
not to tell me that my want is wrong” pretty much summarized the book.
As always, thanks to those who donate books and/or magazines. Ask Barbara
Richards or me to help you if you need a book or magazine and cannot find
something of interest.
Linda Eades, co-chair
We are thrilled Rev. Duganne has started his tenure at Westhampton Baptist
Church!!!!
The award of the High Attendance banner will be eliminated for the summer
and will resume in the fall. Congratulations to the Fellowship Class who won
the banner during the month of May with a total of 38 members. The
Remnants had a total of 44 for the month. Based on total members, this was
not enough to win the banner. This class is seeking a new teacher. If you are
inspired to “learn by teaching” let me know. The total in Sunday school for all
classes in May was an astounding 206. Our teachers must be doing something
right.
The warm weather will most likely find empty seats due to vacations and other
activities taking our members out of town. Please invite a friend to Sunday
school to fill those seats. Our teachers are preparing lessons for hours and
would not be happy to teach to empty seats. We still love our members who
have chosen other forms of Bible study and encourage them to come hear our
amazing new pastor. His sermons on the book of Acts are informative and
clearly shed a new light on the first church. We continue to pray for these
“family/members”.

Dear Church Family,
I want to take this opportunity to thank you for the opportunity to serve as your Minister of Family Life and
Music. These 11 years in that position have been a joy for me. You have allowed me to be a part of all your
lives, and I have truly enjoyed getting to know each of you on a level other than music. As I anticipate my
partial retirement, it is with excitement but also a little sadness. I won’t be there when you come into the
building each day, but please remember I am only a call away. I will be concentrating on improving our
music program and working closely with Rev. Duganne to support his vision. I will be with you on
Wednesdays and Sundays and plan, at this time, to have office hours on Tuesdays.
Thank you also for the lovely luncheon several Sundays ago. Your cards and kind words of encouragement
mean the world to me and I plan to read them often.
Article submission deadline is
12:00 Noon on the 3rd Monday
of each month.
