Dear Epworth Saints,
I am overjoyed that God has led the Bishop to appoint me to your church! I truly look forward to
not only meeting all of you but also getting to know you, as it is my belief that the Spirit works best
with people in relationships!
I have read your April/May edition of the Echo and was very excited to see the various ways you
serve the Lord! Your church has made an impact on the community that would really be missed if
you didn't have those ministries, such as the Grocery GiveAway!
As we soon come together as a faith family; we pray for the well-being of your beloved Pastor Les
and his wife. In addition, we pray for the new path that God will reveal to us in His time!

2. Pastor’s Pen
“FAREWELL ADDRESS!”
2 Corinthians 13:11 “Finally, brothers and sisters, farewell. Put things in order, listen to my appeal,
agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you.”
These are Paul’s words to the believers at Corinth. This is a difficult and divided time but we need to
do what Paul told these fellow believers. I had anticipated remaining as your pastor until the parting
and disassociation of some clergy and congregations from the United Methodist Church.
I came to Epworth and was asked to spend one year with you—well it now has been six years. But
my own health issues have made it clear to me that this is the time that I need to “retire” for the third
and final time, although it is not classified as another retirement—it is labeled “Concluding Ministry!” I
will no longer be serving as the pastor of a congregation, however I will not be “Concluding Ministry!”
There still will be places and ways for me to serve.
It has been a wonderful experience! I am glad that Epworth is such a committed and strong group of
Christian believers. It has been my honor and privilege to have served with you during this time. I
pray that you may continue to succeed and grow in your faith and your commitment to Jesus Christ
as a congregation. I will be praying for you all and Pastor Linda Slutz. May God continue to bless
you to be a blessing!

MUSICAL NOTES
Thank you CHOIR for being in worship each
week & for special services from September
through May! You are loved and appreciat-
ed!
During June, July & August we will welcome
soloists or groups to share their vocal, instru-
mental or dance gifts as we worship. Robin
Schumacher is coordinating the special music
schedule. Please see Robin if you would like
to volunteer!
One special note: The CHOIR will sing on
JUNE 26. Rehearsal at 8:40 a.m.

A big thank you to all the members of EUMC for your
many prayers, love and support during Barb Dillen’s
medical difficulties. Her church family was incredibly
important in her life and brought her great comfort, not
only during her illness, but in the 80+ years as a mem-
ber of the congregation.

Thank you to everyone who helped with the Rummage
Sale. We earned $742.65. Some of the proceeds were
used to purchase new tables.
The items that did not sell were donated to ICan Hous-
ing which assists homeless people in Stark County to
find housing and the Tuslaw Lions Club.

Item needed for a craft project: 25 empty & clean (labels removed) 16 oz peanut butter type jars
If you would like to support VBS with a donation to purchase snacks, craft and program items,

Community Outreach Meals & Groceries
Our May 15th Community Outreach Meal and Grocery Give-away
brought lots of sunshine and blessings! 132 meals were served
and 48 households were provided with groceries that day. We enjoyed fel-
lowship with each other as we worked together to prepare and serve the food AND as we
greeted the folks who came in vehicles, by bicycle and on foot to receive the food. Thank
you to EVERYONE who helped with this outreach by donating food, funding or time!
The next Community Outreach Meal and Grocery Give-away will be Sunday, July 24. We
will get out the grill to cook hamburgers and hotdogs that day. The menu will also in-
clude baked beans, chips, watermelon and cookies. We will have sign-up sheets ready
mid-June for meal item and grocery donations. An announcement will be made during
worship. We will need buns for the burgers and hotdogs, cans of beans, watermelons,
cookies and little bags of chips. Monetary donations will purchase the meat, peanut but-
ter & jelly, bread and paper products.
If you would like to pick up items for grocery bags as you find things on sale or would
like to spread out when you purchase them, here is what we ask for your bags to contain:
canned meat (tuna, chicken, etc.)
2 cans of vegetables
2 cans of fruit
box of cereal or oatmeal
2 cans soup with meat OR 2 cans of pasta with meat
granola/breakfast bars OR packs of snack crackers
rice OR noodles OR boxed mashed potatoes
(a loaf of bread, peanut butter & jelly are purchased with donations and added to
your bags)
***Brown bags are available at the church
Future dates are September 18 and November 20.
