Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. This Week’s Assignments
Reading – We will be working sequencing. Students will read some non-fiction
pieces and place the events in the order that they happened in the story.
Writing – Students will work on a persuasive piece. We’ve spent the last week
looking at some persuasive pieces and now the students will write one of their own
in the format of a friendly letter.
Spelling – Students will be given Unit 21 Spelling words for this week. They will
be tested over their words on Friday.
Math – This week we will continue with geometry. We will specifically be talking
about circles (diameter and radius), symmetry, and transformations. Depending
on the weather, students will have a quiz sometime during the week. Geometry is
a difficult subject for the students. There is a lot of information that the students
have to learn and remember. Please work on these concepts at home with your
children or check out the blog. I have some activities and lessons on the blog
under geometry.
Social Studies – Now that we have covered The Louisiana Purchase and Lewis
and Clark, we will be moving on to discuss The Westward Expansion and all of the
hardships that were faced during this time.
Reminders to Parents
1. Remember to check the blog for new pictures and updates.
2. Check your child’s assignment book nightly and ask them about their day at
school.
