This document provides guidance for writing in a diary, recommending including the date, an introduction describing what will be written about, a chronological account of events with included feelings, and a conclusion wrapping up the past and looking ahead to the future. Proper diary writing is said to require including all of these elements in chronological order to have a coherent and meaningful diary entry.

1. Make sure you have included all of these in your
writing!

2. Date
You always need to have a
date in your diary because
when you are older and you
see that diary entry, you will
never know what day it was if
you didn’t write it.

3. Introduction
Every diary has to start
with an introduction. It
tells you what you are
writing about.

4. Events
You should not write a
diary, if you are not going
to write anything in it or
doodle in it otherwise it
would not be a diary.

5. Feelings
In any part of your diary,
you MUST include your
feelings in it.

6. Conclusion
All diaries have a
conclusion. It means an
ending. It switches from
the past tense to the future
and you can include I etc.

7. Chronological Order
All diaries are in
chronological order. That
means it is in the order that it
happened. If it is not in
chronological order, then it
wouldn’t make sense.
