This document provides instructions for a WebQuest activity for high school agriculture students. The activity involves students researching and making decisions about hay production or cattle breeding. Students are split into pairs, with one researching alfalfa vs orchard grass hay production, and the other researching expected progeny differences in cattle breeding. They use online resources to fill out a handout and make decisions that will carry over to future activities exploring running a farm business. The goal is for students to gain experience analyzing industry information and making real-world agricultural production decisions.
Discussion #1Part 1 There is evidence that small stocks and va.docxduketjoy27252
Discussion #1:
Part 1: There is evidence that small stocks and value stocks perform better over the long term than the market averages. What are some logical reasons for this phenomenon?
Part 2: There is strong evidence that many investors suffer from familiarity bias and overconfidence bias. Can you explain why these biases might exist? Can you think of a situation in which you might make these mistakes (if you hadn’t learned about these biases in this module)?
Include some news that is less than a year old that is applicable to this discussion.
Points from the professor:
Class:
For the week 5 discussion...you may wish to include a discussion/observation regarding the process (somewhat involved) with selecting individual stocks for a given portfolio...
If in fact, part '1' is correct...then, 'how' does the average retail investor 'find' these firms and, properly analyze/follow said firms
As to part 2 of this question...does a familiarity and/or overconfidence have anything to do with what the 'street' calls a 'herd' mentality...?
'How' might an investor avoid these areas (Herd or other market dysfunction's)...
'What' value might professionally managed portfolio's (mutual funds) offer to both parts 1 and 2 of this discussion question...?

Writing Assignment 2 Instructions and Rubric
Instructions
The second writing assignment is due at the end of Module 6. You are advised to begin
working on the second writing assignment during Module 4.
This writing assignment should be in an essay format. It should use two or more published
news or academic articles which are less than a year old as cited references. This writing
assignment addresses the values learning outcome (LO7) as detailed in the syllabus.
For this assignment, assume that you are a corporate manager that needs to make an
important decision. Your company currently has its largest factory (700 employees) located
in the Midwestern United States. This factory is currently not competitive in international
markets and its poor results are threatening to force the entire company into bankruptcy.
The company employs 3,000 in other areas of the U.S.
You have to decide whether to keep the factory where it is or move it to Canada or Ireland.
You can only keep one factory open. The corporate tax rates of Canada (20%) and Ireland
(15%) are much lower than the U.S. (35%). Labor costs will not change significantly
because the cost of training new employees will be offset by the replacement of highly paid

He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

25. Introduction (Teacher) Title Introduction Learners Standards Process Resources Credits Teacher Page Welcome to Farm Frenzy, a WebQuest designed for high school agriculture students. This WebQuest was developed with two different, but not contrasting, motivations. First was the Colorado State University’s Department of Education’s Class EDUC 331, an educational technology class. The second was the understanding, as an agricultural education licensure candidate, there is a large need for students to understand real world connections and not just leave learning in the classroom. This lesson focuses on two facets of the agriculture industry, hay production and the selection of feeds through research of necessary supplies and location, as well as beef selection and the use of expected progeny differences to aid in that. Evaluation Teacher Script Conclusion
26. Learners (Teacher) [ Student Page ] Title Introduction Learners Standards Process Resources Credits Teacher Page This lesson is formulated for your upper level agriculture students (second year and higher) who have been exposed to both of these areas and have a solid grasp on critical thinking and discernment of information. They will be required to read different texts that will necessitate sifting through information for the necessary details. Students must be able to extrapolate information and synthesize information to be able to answer questions that are not directly related to the texts. Evaluation Teacher Script Conclusion

28. The Process (Teacher) [ Student Page ] Title Introduction Learners Standards Process Resources Credits Teacher Page To begin this activity, divide up students into groups of two. They will be working with each other for multiple activities beyond this WebQuest, so try to pair students together in a way that will make successful groups. One will be assigned to the hay production section and one will be assigned to the cattle production. Students will be researching different options that they will be using for the record book activity/WebQuest. There is a handout that accompanies each of the sections (hay and cattle) that will help them connect what they are. It can also be useful for sharing between partners or to have in their binders for reference. Evaluation Teacher Script Conclusion
29. The Process (Teacher) [ Student Page ] Title Introduction Learners Standards Process Resources Credits Teacher Page For the students who are assigned the hay section of study, they will have to read information about hay production in general and then specific information about orchard grass and alfalfa. In their WebQuest, they will have a situation giving them a location and an acreage. They will be deciding which one of the types of hay they would produce. Really, there is no right answer. Part of their assignment will be to calculate tons per acre, price per acre and total revenue, these formulas are either pretty simple or are in the handout for students. For students who are doing the cattle segment, they will be reading about expected progeny differences. There are a few websites given. They don’t need to read every detail, but they should get the general concepts about what EPD’s are and why they are important to the industry. Evaluation Teacher Script Conclusion
30. The Process (Teacher) [ Student Page ] Title Introduction Learners Standards Process Resources Credits Teacher Page They will get a scenario that they have to operate within for making decisions. The situation that they have is described and they have to identify which EPD’s that they have to look into. Again, the given options are all different and there isn’t a correct answer. That allows for students in the record book activity to experience different scenarios and make it their own events. Additionally, they will be given four sires that they can pick from, trying to find a balance between the different EPD’s. Evaluation Teacher Script Conclusion
31. Resources (Teacher) [ Student Page ] Title Introduction Learners Standards Process Resources Credits Teacher Page The best option would be either have students link to a website to download the PowerPoint or to have it on a cd to hand out to the partner groups. With the amount of reading that they will have to do on line, they will have to spend considerable time on the computer.
