This document provides an overview of a research workshop for a WR121 class. It discusses identifying the type of information needed, designing search strategies, locating resources, and recognizing how librarians can help. It then presents a research topic on how the annual influx of summer visitors to the Jersey Shore affects the culture and identity of the region. Students are instructed to find articles and a book on migratory populations in the U.S. to help address this research situation.

When it comes to cataloging and classification, consistency obtained through standards is important. That does not mean you have to be at the mercy of the national standards. This presentation will cover many ways in which you can adapt catalog records to make sure they work for your library users – from homegrown classification systems to local subject headings – and offer tips to make sure these practices still provide the consistency needed in a good catalog.

Belgium vs Romania Injuries and Patience in Belgium’s Euro Cup Germany Squad....Eticketing.co
Belgium coach Domenico Tedesco will wait for several key players to recover from injury. Even if it means they miss the opening Euro Cup Germany stages of the European Championship in Germany this month. Veteran defender Jan Vertonghen, midfielder Youri Tielemans and defender Arthur. Theate are being given time to play in the tournament because they are considered vital to Belgium’s cause, Tedesco said on Tuesday.

"Of course, you prefer to take players who are fully fit, but that's okay. We want to wait and be patient for some players even if they cannot play in those first matches," he told a press conference. The 37-year-old Vertonghen, Belgium’s Euro Cup 2024 most-capped international with 154 appearances, is struggling to shake off a groin injury.
"He will be there normally. This also applies to Youri Tielemans and Arthur Theate. The latter's position is very sensitive. We don't have many choices at left back. "It will only change if it turns out that they will only be available when, say, the final of the Euro 2024 Championship comes around. That's too long to wait. "However, I am confident that the injured boys are on track for the Euros.
Belgium vs Romania: Radu Dragusin Prepares for Crucial Role in Euro Cup Germany
Some of them have taken not one but two steps forward in their rehabilitation," he said. None of the injured players will feature in this week’s warm-up friendlies against Montenegro and Luxembourg. Romania centre-back Radu Dragusin found chances limited at Tottenham Hotspur in the second half of the 2023-24 season.
But is crucial to his country's cause at UEFA Euro 2024 where his aerial ability, physicality and hard graft make him a standout player. The 22-year-old moved to North London from Italian side Genoa in January but was kept on the sidelines by the form of another new arrival for the season, Mickey van de Ven, something Romania coach Edward Iordanescu admitted was a concern.
It will mean limited game-time going into the finals, but Dragusin, who cites Netherlands defender Virgil van Dijk as a role model, started every Euro Cup Germany qualifier as Romania went through the campaign unbeaten in their 10 games. He will be among their most important players in their first game in Germany against Ukraine in Munich on June 17, taking the right centre-back role in what is likely to be a back four.

Narrated Business Proposal for the Philadelphia Eaglescamrynascott12
Slide 1:
Welcome, and thank you for joining me today. We will explore a strategic proposal to enhance parking and traffic management at Lincoln Financial Field, aiming to improve the overall fan experience and operational efficiency. This comprehensive plan addresses existing challenges and leverages innovative solutions to create a smoother and more enjoyable experience for our fans.
Slide 2:
Picture this: It’s a crisp fall afternoon, driving towards Lincoln Financial Field. The atmosphere is electric—tailgaters grilling, fans in Eagles jerseys creating a sea of green and white. The air buzzes with camaraderie and anticipation. You park, join the throng, and make your way to your seat. The stadium roars as the Eagles take the field, sending chills down your spine. Each play is a thrilling dance of strategy and skill. This is what being an Eagles fan is all about—the joy, the pride, and the shared experience.
Slide 3:
But now, the day is marred by frustration. The excitement wanes as you struggle to find a parking spot. The congestion is overwhelming, and tempers flare. The delays mean you miss the pre-game excitement, the tailgate camaraderie, and even the opening kick-off. After the game, the joy of victory or the shared solace of defeat is overshadowed by the stress of navigating out of the parking lot. The gridlock, honking horns, and endless waiting drain the energy and joy from what should have been an unforgettable experience.
Our proposal aims to eliminate these frustrations, ensuring that from arrival to departure, your experience is extraordinary. Efficient parking and smooth traffic flow are key to maintaining the high spirits and excitement that make game days special.
Slide 4:
The Philadelphia Eagles are not just a premier NFL team; they are an integral part of the community, hosting games, concerts, and various events at Lincoln Financial Field. Our state-of-the-art stadium is designed to provide a world-class experience for every attendee. Whether it's the thrill of game day, the excitement of a live concert, or the camaraderie of community events, we pride ourselves on delivering a fan-first experience and maintaining operational excellence across all our activities. Our commitment to our fans and community is unwavering, and we continuously strive to enhance every aspect of their experience, ensuring they leave with unforgettable memories.
Slide 5:
Recent trends show an increasing demand for efficient event logistics. Our customer feedback has consistently highlighted frustrations with parking and traffic. Surveys indicate that a significant number of fans are dissatisfied with the current parking situation. Comparisons with other venues like Citizens Bank Park and Wells Fargo Center reveal that we lag in terms of parking efficiency and convenience. These insights underscore the urgent need for innovation to meet and exceed fan expectations.

14. THE SITUATION:
The influx of summer visitors to the
Jersey Shore causes tension with the
local year-round residents. How does
this annual migration affect the culture
or identity of the region? Are these
migrants part of the culture?
So, before we get started, we’re going to do something a little different. I’d like everyone to take out and turn on your smartphone, if you have one. I’m going to ask you a question about research and you can use your phone to text a reply to this online poll. Your responses will show up, live and in real life, behind me. Standard texting rates apply if you’re using your phone, or you can give your response using the Web. Here we go!
(NOTE: poll should show up embedded right in presentation, but only if running ppt on a Windows platform. DOES NOT WORK IN MAC. If using Mac, you will need to open poll up in a separate window.)Press F5 or use the tool bar to enter presentation mode in order to see the poll.\r\nIn an emergency during your presentation, if the poll isn't showing, navigate to this link in your web browser:http://www.polleverywhere.com/free_text_polls/MTE5ODM0NDY5Mg(NOTE: at the end of class, log into PollEverywhere and download and save class responses into file sharing. Clear poll for use for next class.)
Here’s what we hope you will take away from this workshop today. (and you’ll be more engaged with what the library has to offer!)
Learning Outcome #1There is so much information out there. You’ve probably all heard of information overload, right? Well it’s not an exaggeration. We’re going to talk about how you can recognize different kinds of information—formats, contents, styles, etc.—and how you can identify the most relevant sources of information for your research.
Learning Outcome #2We’ll talk about designing and implementing effective search strategies in order to get the most out of library resources and make your research time more efficient.
Learning Outcome #3And hopefully, you’ll be able to locate some awesome resources relevant to your research question, during this very workshop!Fun anecdote: This image of Fort Awesome was actually taken in Harvard Square a few winters ago, when we had snow. It warms my heart to know that Fort Awesome is so close by.Photocredit: http://www.flickr.com/photos/drgandy/22373340
Learning Outcome #4Lastly, we want you to know what librarians can do for you! ASK: So, I’m a librarian. What do you think I do all day? (solicit answers. Someone will say something eventually about librarians answering questions). That’s right, we’re here to help. It’s what we love to do!Okay…so now, let’s get started! I have another question for you…
Take a moment to think about these letters. Don’t say your answer out loud yet!
Here’s a hint. So, what do you think GTL stands for? {hopefully, students will say Gym, Tanning, Laundry}Close…today, it stands for Gym, Tanning, Library. Today, we’re going to take a look at how to do research at the library through the lens of the Jersey Shore. Yes, you can research the Jersey Shore!Incidentally, I recently took an online quiz to find out which Jersey Shore character I’m most like and apparently, I’m most like Angelina from Seasons 1 and 2. So from now on, you can call me Tina Angelina. And Karla, my coteacher, is most like J-WOWW. So please refer to her as K-WOWW today.
You all mentioned earlier that you are working on a research assignment. Henceforth…
We will refer to this assignment as <<click>> “The Situation”Here’s our situation (or research question): Each summer the Jersey Shore explodes with an influx of summer visitors, causing tension with the local year-round residents. How does this annual migration affect the culture or identity of the region? Are these migrants part of the culture?(NOTE: research situation should be customized to fit the scope of the research assignment)
[In this segment, students will talk about different types of information—forms and content—and think about which resources would be most beneficial for their specific research. This ties to Learning Outcome #1)Pictured here are a variety of sources of information. [from top, clockwise: USA.gov (gov’t site); YouTube (media site); New York Times (newspaper); Perez Hilton.com (gossip blog); Wikipedia (open source encyclopedia); Reality Bites Back (book); Journal of Pop Culture (scholarly journal)]ASK: Are any of these familiar? Have you used them before? How do you use them?Go over a few of these examples together, asking about the kind of information students would expect to find in a given resource, and how each resource might provide information on a research topic. EXAMPLE: Let’s say I want to do some research on Snooki. What kind of information on Snooki would you expect to find in the New York Times (a newspaper resource). Repeat with a few more examples.ASK: Which is the best source for information about Snooki? (Answer: it depends on your purpose)
Activity speaks to Learning Outcome #2 and #1Press F5 or enter presentation mode to view the poll\r\nIn an emergency during your presentation, if the poll isn't showing, navigate to this link in your web browser:\r\nhttp://www.polleverywhere.com/free_text_polls/LTIwMzg5NDAwNDkPoint out student examples (synonyms, “phrase searching”, dreaded boolean logic, narrowing/widening scope)Ask students to share the number of results foundHave students look at the search results as well. ASK: Where is the information coming from? Have them try to read citation information. ASK: is everything here scholarly? How can you tell? Results show books and articles, have Cited by information – leads to other articles and helps you see which ones are most cited. Look for Emerson Holdings AND/OR Emerson Full-Text (ignore Emerson College FullText) –click to read full articles in many cases. If you can’t read entire article, you can try to find it in the library or request it via interlibrary loan. From Off Campus: Set Scholar Preferences (by grey search button). Choose Emerson College. On campus, this is already selected for you.
Activity speaks to Learning Outcome #4As you’ve seen already, there are many places to get help finding information. Pictured behind me is another one; librarians have created “research guides” to helpyou to get started quickly and easily. These guides are usually centered on a broad subject topic and are intended to give you starting points if you’ve never done research in a given area of academic study. For instance, are any of you film majors? Well, you might not know the best databases to do film research and I’m betting you don’t want to search through that big long list of databases to find out which ones cover film. We don’t want you to have to do that either! So we have guides for things like Film, History, Marketing, and even one specifically for your class. You can find it at the URL listed at the top. Use it to: Get resource recommendations for each kind of writing project you undertake Find links to books, websites, databases and more specific to the kind of work you’re doing. (The bonus of this is you don’t have to remember everything we went over today. All of it and more are gathered in this guide for you!)Mention a walkthrough of this slide presentation is available.[assuming there is one!!]We’ve looked at a lot of different places to get information. But, let’s say, you’re having some trouble with your Situation. You’ve explored library resources, you’ve looked in the databases, you’ve tried to find books and you’re stuck. CLICK
In fact, you’ve hit a brick wall on your research journey. You are stuck!ASK: Does this sound familiar? Has it ever happened to you? What do you do??[Image credit: http://www.flickr.com/photos/theartguy/4721135346]
Thanks so much for spending time at the library today. If I could ask a small favor… We take very short surveys at the end of these workshops so that we can continue to make them most effective for you. Go to this URL and take our One-Minute-Survey. Thanks![Maybe revamp this… What do we want to assess? How do we want to use this assessment tool?]
