Luxury is often depicted by price and quality; the most opulent pieces are
valued due to their unattainability to the regular public. This idea of
aspiration and indulgence is what sets big name brands such as Gucci,
Louise Vuitton and Fendi apart from other brands that offer more realistic
leverage. In 2014 when Vetements took it’s front stage seat in fashion;
many questioned the true intentions of the brand- and whether it was a
gimmick or mocking the world of luxury fashion.
FAKEXURY
This speculation was due to the fact the this “luxury” brand did not supply grandeur quality but did however stick to the
large price tags. This really made people question what the term “luxury” really meant.
In the 2017 I think well be seeing a lot more DIY and customisation of clothing. The previous year really focused on
oversized sportswear which I don’t see quickly going out of fashion- which is why I believe there will be a mismatch of
sportswear and luxury pieces. This has been foreshadowed in the menswear AW17 shows especially in the Louis Vuitton X
Supreme collaboration which took the elegant tailoring of LV and gave it a streetwear twist from the Supreme sportswear.
I drew influences from the idea
of markets, carboots and thrift
stalls as I believe this is where
fakes and copies stereotypically
come from essentially.
This idea of trashiness through fakes is what has inspired
me. It would be interesting to see if something that so
many people find to hold little value could be made to be
seen luxurious and valuable.
Usually fakes (e.g bags at a market) will be embellished
with extra gold, chains, diamantes and print ect to push
the idea of luxury.
I don’t wish to fake or cheat a brands but use it to revamp
and customise existing pieces ect and creating vulgar,
eccentric and egocentric.

I believe that the colour scheme will provide a sense of rich and deep
colours such as deep royal blues; emerald greens and ruby reds.
However with the fact that we are customising and revamping the idea
of luxury; I believe there will be added touches of all colours-
predominantly pinks, browns and golds. Although colour plays a big part
in the customisation of this new trend, the added textures and
accessories to the pieces play a huge part. This could include beading,
feathers, diamantes, embroider, patches ect.
Colour Scheme and Accentuation
Websites such as Etsy and Asos marketplace have
raised in popularity and have become a way to
make finding customised fashion more accessible.
From the graph below you can see that since being
created, Topshop Finds has not been used as much
as anticipated due to people not being so aware of
the function of the website. I believe this is why
the new collection should still act on the same
trend to also push Topshop Finds
Topshop released “Topshop Finds”
in 2016 which helps customers find
recycled, customised, reconstructed
clothes. This followed the way of the
popular Urban Renewal from Urban
Outfitters.
Keeping make up quite neutral
and minimal but with an added
strong accentuation (mostly
bright colours around eyes) will
not distract from the bold
kitsch style of the clothing
however still draw a relation to
the clothing and styling.

Fakexury

  • 1. Luxury is often depicted by price and quality; the most opulent pieces are valued due to their unattainability to the regular public. This idea of aspiration and indulgence is what sets big name brands such as Gucci, Louise Vuitton and Fendi apart from other brands that offer more realistic leverage. In 2014 when Vetements took it’s front stage seat in fashion; many questioned the true intentions of the brand- and whether it was a gimmick or mocking the world of luxury fashion. FAKEXURY This speculation was due to the fact the this “luxury” brand did not supply grandeur quality but did however stick to the large price tags. This really made people question what the term “luxury” really meant. In the 2017 I think well be seeing a lot more DIY and customisation of clothing. The previous year really focused on oversized sportswear which I don’t see quickly going out of fashion- which is why I believe there will be a mismatch of sportswear and luxury pieces. This has been foreshadowed in the menswear AW17 shows especially in the Louis Vuitton X Supreme collaboration which took the elegant tailoring of LV and gave it a streetwear twist from the Supreme sportswear.

  • 3. I drew influences from the idea of markets, carboots and thrift stalls as I believe this is where fakes and copies stereotypically come from essentially. This idea of trashiness through fakes is what has inspired me. It would be interesting to see if something that so many people find to hold little value could be made to be seen luxurious and valuable. Usually fakes (e.g bags at a market) will be embellished with extra gold, chains, diamantes and print ect to push the idea of luxury. I don’t wish to fake or cheat a brands but use it to revamp and customise existing pieces ect and creating vulgar, eccentric and egocentric.
  • 5. STREET STYLE I believe these street style images explore some of the themes I was trying to portray. I believe there is a variety of ways to drive this trend forward. I wanted to keep the examples broad to show that this trend can be adapted to anyone's personal style. We can use a variety of techniques to customise as shown in the images.

  • 8. I believe that the colour scheme will provide a sense of rich and deep colours such as deep royal blues; emerald greens and ruby reds. However with the fact that we are customising and revamping the idea of luxury; I believe there will be added touches of all colours- predominantly pinks, browns and golds. Although colour plays a big part in the customisation of this new trend, the added textures and accessories to the pieces play a huge part. This could include beading, feathers, diamantes, embroider, patches ect. Colour Scheme and Accentuation
  • 9. Websites such as Etsy and Asos marketplace have raised in popularity and have become a way to make finding customised fashion more accessible. From the graph below you can see that since being created, Topshop Finds has not been used as much as anticipated due to people not being so aware of the function of the website. I believe this is why the new collection should still act on the same trend to also push Topshop Finds Topshop released “Topshop Finds” in 2016 which helps customers find recycled, customised, reconstructed clothes. This followed the way of the popular Urban Renewal from Urban Outfitters.
  • 10. Keeping make up quite neutral and minimal but with an added strong accentuation (mostly bright colours around eyes) will not distract from the bold kitsch style of the clothing however still draw a relation to the clothing and styling. MAKE UP
