Facebook's Aquila drone aims to provide internet access to 1.1 billion people currently without it, utilizing a solar-powered aircraft with a wingspan similar to a Boeing 737. The drone is designed to transmit data at 10 Gbps using laser technology over a 50-kilometer radius and will partner with local ISPs instead of directly serving customers. Facebook plans to create aerial chains of these drones to connect rural areas to the internet, with full-scale flight tests expected to begin soon.
