This document provides information about the Design Communication module offered at the School of Architecture, Building & Design. The module is a 6-credit course taught over 14 weeks through lectures, tutorials, and self-study. It introduces fundamental skills for communicating architectural design through drawings, modeling, and other visualization techniques. The module aims to develop students' abilities to visualize and convey architectural ideas, forms, and spaces. Students will learn to illustrate architectural concepts using 2D and 3D representations and analyze visual information from models and technical drawings.
This paper discusses a book that examines the relationship between communication theory, semiotics, ideology, and architecture. The authors introduce the concept of ideology as referring to reality but only providing an illusion, and propose architectural theory as existing outside of ideology to explain the relationship between society and the built environment. They view semiotics as an important tool for architectural theory that can clarify the distinction between communication and signification. The authors see semiotics as a way to better understand how significance is produced in architecture and recommend it be used as part of a larger project rather than an outside concept imported alone. Semiotics may be useful as a way to counter ideology by allowing alternative perspectives on economic and political norms in architecture.
The document discusses the benefits of exercise for mental health. Regular physical activity can help reduce anxiety and depression and improve mood and cognitive functioning. Exercise causes chemical changes in the brain that may help boost feelings of calmness, happiness and focus.
The Idea Journal discusses points and lines. Points are dimensionless locations in space, while lines are one-dimensional objects that extend infinitely in both directions and connect at least two points. Together, points and lines are fundamental geometric objects that form the basis for shapes in our world.

This document outlines a group project for a university course on natural built environments. Students will visit a nature site to observe the ecosystem and collect information using their senses. They will then create an infographic poster and 5-10 minute documentary video to present their findings. The infographic will focus on the habitat and ecosystem, while the video will share the students' experiences and raise awareness. Students will also complete individual tasks and reports on exploring plants, animals, senses, and the ecosystem to include in the group work. The project aims to help students appreciate nature and increase environmental awareness.
Students face immense pressure to succeed academically from competition with peers and expectations from parents, leaving them with little leisure time. This leads students to become obsessed with their studies to the point of being "lifeless", spending all their time studying instead of developing social skills or enjoying youth. Constant pressure causes some students great stress and has even led to suicide in rare cases. While academics are important, the author argues students should balance their time more to avoid becoming antisocial and to have a well-rounded childhood experience.
Young people face pressure from intense academic competition among peers and high expectations from parents, leaving little leisure time. This leads students to focus solely on studies to the exclusion of social development and friendships, making them antisocial. Parents and society should reduce academic pressure and encourage students to pursue balanced self-development activities instead of constant studying.
This document provides instructions for an essay assignment for an English course. Students must choose one of three essay topics and write a 600-800 word essay using a five-paragraph structure. They must cite sources within the text and provide a reference list using APA style. Essays will be assessed based on demonstrated understanding, content, organization, use of references, grammar and mechanics. A marking rubric is provided assessing elements such as pre-writing, structure, support, coherence and sentence skills. Suggested references and cover page format are also included.
This document contains information about a student's ENBE project on representing nature through an infographic habitat poster. It includes descriptions of a frog and Mimosa pudica plant found on the student's field site, including their characteristics, habitats, and ecological relationships. The student documents exploring their site, measuring a 10x10 area, and observing animals and plants, including documenting the frog's hind legs, tongue/mouth, and 5 senses, as well as the Mimosa plant's 5 senses. The document concludes with the student making a logo and including it in their infographic poster.
