EY Darden Master
Class Programme
Leveraging the weird, the different
and the diverse to boost your
organisation’s success
19 — 21 November 2018
This intensive 3 day Master Class will provide leaders with the insights and tools they need to be
21st century leaders of diverse teams leading to a stronger and more profitable future for the
enterprises they lead. The Master Class will be led by one of the University of Virginia Darden
School of Business’ most highly rated teaching faculty, Professor Martin Davidson.
Why attend?
• Is your organization looking for new growth opportunities?
• Does ‘innovation’ feature in your strategy?
• Would you like your engagement scores to be higher?
• Is the make-up of your customers, employees and communities where you operate different
to that of your senior leadership team?
If you answered ‘yes’ to one or more of these this programme would be a great investment for
you. Business belongs to savvy change-makers; it belongs to leaders who look beyond routine
and balance security with untapped potential. Embrace your vision while guiding others to tackle
new work with renewed energy and passion and rally support across your organization for
change. Firms include a variety of differences among employees and the most critical challenge
for leaders is to create value from those differences—to find ways to leverage the differences for
the purpose of generating the outcomes that are important to the firm such as revenue, profit,
talent development, and innovation.
Leaders must navigate the variety of differences, whether those differences stem from social
group and background, national culture, ways of thinking or even consequences of post-merger
integrations. All of these scenarios require leadership skill in dealing with diversity. To lead
well in diverse contexts, leaders must adopt a new paradigm for diversity and inclusion. In this
programme, we will discuss how old and new approaches to diversity manifest in leadership
perspectives, strategic focus, scope of differences that matter, and long-term impact on business
results. With that as a backdrop, we will learn behavioural techniques for building strong work
relationships across difference
EY Darden Master Class Programme
Darden Professor Martin
Davidson’s research and
teaching has changed how
leaders around the world view
diversity. Practical, applicable
and relevant — his work shows
how leveraging difference is a
critical factor for innovation,
engagement and business results.
He challenges leaders and
diversity professionals to see
diversity as much more than
learning about race, gender,
and other social group.
Rather, he advises leaders
to examine and leverage the
differences that matter most
to achieving the mission and
goals of the organisation.
