2. PAELLA
Is a rice dish originally from Valencia.
Main ingredients: Short grain rice, chicken,
rabbit, vegetables as beans and tomato, and
saffron.
3. nowadays there are variations of it, such as the seafood
paella that substitutes meat for seafood, mollusks and
fish and the mixed paella that is like a mix between the
traditional paella and the seafood paella.
4. Winners of the 2016 edition
Since its beginnings, paella has been a dish
that brings people together to celebrate an
event.
However there are culinary festivals today in
honor of the paella and it is called “Paelles
al Carrer” (paellas in the street).
Other famous festivals in honor of paella are
held in Sueca that since 1961 concur to hold
the International Valencian Paella
Competition of Sueca.
It is a Valencian custom to
"anar de paella" (go for
paella).
5. • In many cases it is the man who is in charge of cooking the paella,
since its consumption was associated with a festivity and was not
part of the ordinary duties of a housewife.
