Experiences
1. Frequent communication efforts pay off: continuous interaction between
BMU, UNEP & GIZ support the right design and impact of activities
2. Excellent cooperation between UNEP & GIZ
• UNEP benefits from access to GIZ networks in partner countries as
well as from implementation experience
• GIZ benefits from the multilateral context of UNEP‘s approach, their
research activities and global networks
3. Close cooperation with ICI project „Strategic Environmental Dialogues“
enhances the visibility and outreach (e.g. India)

4. Essential for successful country work: close cooperation and
coordination with ICI and other GIZ country projects, work on
converging agendas (e.g. Thailand, India) and exchange with other
(international) organisations (e.g. GGGI)
5. Differentiated and country-specific formats and processes are needed
to generate lasting interest and improve learning, designed in close
cooperation with the relevant partners ► this can include studies,
informal learning groups, workshops, exposures to best practice
cases, linkages with global learning platform

Outlook
1. The project will constitute a contribution to the
Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE)
initiated by UNEP, ILO, UNIDO & UNITAR
2. Strengthening and building up of new institutional
alliances, e.g. IMF-UNEP-GIZ-network on green
fiscal policies
3. Further support for action plans and implementation
processes in partner countries
4. Extension of partner countries to selected ICI focus
countries
5. Compilation and communication of experiences
and lessons learned

Final considerations
Development agenda ≠ climate agenda (on an international scale)
But low-carbon development & low-carbon growth are very close to green
economy and green growth (networks are partly the same)
Green economy is much more about co-benefits and much more about
development => climate change as an integrated part of sustainable
development
Country-specific approaches needed: Green economy and climate change
can work as points entry – depending from country-specific situation
The simplistic formula „Green Economy = low-carbon + resource efficiency +
inclusiveness“ should be complemented at least by „climate-resilient“
NAMA‘s might help a green sector transformation
