2. Aim of WG on MRV
• Map existing work on MRV of NAMAs among
participating organizations in order to identify gaps, avoid
overlaps, and leverage synergies.

3. Process
Three-step process
1. Map existing work on MRV of NAMAs among
participating organizations via conference calls.
2. Compile possible areas for collaboration based on
calls and assess how to proceed.
3. Share research products for group review and
feedback.

6. Preliminary findings
• Common Metrics:
– Lack of consistent MRV methods for GHG and non-
GHG effects
– Important to use similar methodologies and indicators
for NAMA MRV, especially in the context of a NAMA
facility for example.
– The group could try to develop common set of metrics
and indicators if desirable.

• MRV Resource Catalogue:
– No comprehensive document outlining existing MRV
tools and methods.
– Document could be useful for countries.
– Activity table could form the basis of catalogue.
– For now, the excel of MRV activities is just being used
internally among the groups and BMU.

• Training of Trainers:
– Capacity building among organizations working on
MRV is critical
– Could be useful to have workshop that brings
together organizations to train one another on each of
our various MRV tools and methodologies.
– Could take place under the UNDP Centre of
Excellence of MRV Partnership, for example, or on
the sidelines of the autumn school.

9. Preliminary findings
• Institutions:
– Institutional capacity for MRV is a key priority area
where little work is taking place.
– WRI plans to carry out work in this area (MRV Data
and Institutions Design Guide), in which we are
involving other organizations.

10. Outputs
• Activities table
– Covers activities by each organization related to MRV
of GHG emissions, emissions reductions, non-GHG
metrics, policy implementation, and finance.
– Can be used to identify gaps, overlaps, and
synergies.

11. Outputs
• Convened Advisory Committee for MRV data and
institutions guide (August 2013)
– Members include MRV working group and
representatives from Colombia, Brazil, Ethiopia,
South Africa, and Thailand
– Discussed need for further work on MRV data and
institutions
– Received feedback on proposed outline

12. Outputs
• MRV data and institutions design guide (forthcoming)
– Offer classification of MRV by type (emissions,
emissions reductions, non-GHG impacts, policy
implementation, and finance).
– Describe M, R, and V in the context of each MRV
type, including methods, data, and international
reporting requirements.
– Outline key institutional capacities and functions for
national MRV systems.
– Work is guided by Advisory Committee with continued
input from the WG on MRV.
