This document outlines the principles of Experience Based Learning (EBL). It describes 7 different learning styles that involve visual, aural, verbal, physical, logical, social, and solitary preferences. EBL is defined as reflecting on experiences to draw meaning and understanding. Unlike didactic learning, EBL assumes that experience is the foundation of learning, learners construct their own experiences, and learning is influenced by social and emotional contexts. EBL can take the form of internships, excursions, studios, laboratories, workshops, practicums, teaching, role playing, and simulations. Challenges include negotiated curricula, deeply felt experiences, organizational constraints, expectations, and being misunderstood as non-academic.
