brands and trademarks; coordinates the production, manufacture,
distribution, marketing, promotion, and enforcement of copyright for
sound recordings and music videos; conducts talent scouting and
development of new artists.

2. Major vs independent
•Record labels can either be small and independent or large
and part of a international media group.
•As of 2012 there are only three labels that are reffered to as
“major labels”.
•A sublable is a label that is aprt of a larger record company
but trades under a different name.
Major Labels
•Warner Music Group is an American major global record company in New York City, its one of
the big four record companies.
•Warner music groups music publishing company is Warner/Chappell Music, one of the worlds
leading music publishers.
•Warner Music Group also provides sales, marketing and distribuation services for physical and
digital, and audio and video products, both to its own labels and to leading independent labels.

3. Columbia Records:
Columbia Records is a premier recording label, under the ownership of Sony Music
Entertainment, operating under the Columbia Music Group. It was founded in 1888.
Columbia is the oldest brand name and was the first company to produce pre-recorded
records instead of blank cylinders. From 1961-1990 records were realised outside the U.S and
Canda on the CBS record s Label.

4. Indepdant Labels
•Record companies and music publishers that are not under the control
of the big three are generally considered to be independent, even if they

•Indie Label I sosmetgimes considered to be almost any label that is not
a mainstream music regardless of the structure.

•They are a collective group that promaote grime and rap.
•They were founded by JME who is also a grime artist himself
•The label was formed in 2005.
