Exam Format of IELTS Academic Test
 When planning to study abroad, the International English Language Testing System, or
IELTS, is a state-administered trial of English language capability for non-local English
language speakers. It is an important prerequisite for students who want to study
abroad.
 Two types of IELTS that are IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training. Both these
modules comprise four sections: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. Listening
and Speaking are the equivalents of the two modules.
 Listening: 4 recordings of increasing difficulty (conversation between 2 people, a
monologue, another conversation, and lecture)
Exam Format of IELTS Academic Test
 Academic Writing: This section includes:
 Task 1- Table, chart, graphs, or diagrams description writing in approx. 150 words.
 Task 2- Write an essay of a minimum of 250 words.
 Academic Reading: Three long passages to read with 40 questions. The text ranges from
descriptive to analytical content.
 Speaking: Face-to-face interaction round with the examiner that includes 3 parts that
are an interview, a monologue, and last is a discussion.
 General Training Reading: This includes 3 sections having 40 questions.
 The tasks and content given in this section are from the social and workplace
situations.
 General Training Writing: This section comprises of two tasks.
 Task 1- letter writing of about 150 words asking about explaining a particular situation
or providing information.
 Task 2- Short essay of approx. 250 words.
