Il seguente studio è frutto di un’analisi effettuata impiegando il metodo del confronto a coppie di Thurstone. L’intento era di raccogliere le preferenze di un ristretto campione di soggetti, sull’aspetto grafico e sulla funzionalità di alcune delle versioni delle pagine personali del servizio di rete sociale Facebook, nelle sue diverse evoluzioni dal 2007 fino al 2014.

2. In una notte di ottobre del 2003, uno studente di Harvard, tale Mark
Zuckerberg, si siede davanti al computer e guardando l’annuario
universitario ha un’idea: creare un sito dove caricare tutte le foto
degli studenti del college. Chi vi accede può votare la preferita tra due
foto che il sistema seleziona casualmente. Nel giro di poche ore Mark
riesce ad hackerare i database dei diversi studentati di Harvard e ad
estrarre i nomi e le fotografie di tutti gli studenti. Nelle prime 4 ore di
attività Facemash attirò 450 visitatori e 22.000 click sulle foto. Il
sovraccarico di dati mandò in crash i server dell'università
e Facemash venne chiuso dai vertici di Harvard pochi
giorni dopo: Zuckerberg fu accusato di infrazione della
sicurezza e di violazione della privacy degli studenti e
venne punito con sei mesi di sospensione.
3. A gennaio del 2004 registra il dominio thefacebook.com in un articolo pubblicato su The
Harvard Crimson lo stesso Zuckerberg ha dichiarato che proprio “l’incidente” di Facemash
lo aveva portato a ripensarlo e a creare Facebook. Il 4 febbraio il lancio ufficiale del sito,
nato grazie all’aiuto di 3 compagni di college di Mark.
Alla fine di febbraio più della metà della popolazione universitaria di Harvard era
registrata al servizio.

Inizia ufficialmente il boom grazie
anche all’introduzione delle
applicazioni. Nello stesso periodo,
Facebook ha introdotto anche la
barra per pubblicare gli
aggiornamenti di stato, note,
immagini, video eccetera.
Il 2007 rappresenta la svolta per
Facebook. Da spazio dove
comunicare il network si trasforma
in una vera e propria piattaforma.
Ha inizio l'era delle applicazioni, dei
pokes e soprattutto arriva il
momento in cui il social network
inizia ad essere parte integrante
della vita sociale dei suoi utenti.
7. 2009 2010
Un nuovo tipo di profilo viene lanciato
da Facebook: le famose “Pagine”. Da
quel momento in poi, gli utenti
sarebbero potuti “diventare fan” di
una pagina (fino al 2010, quando
avrebbero dire “mi piace” ad una
pagina) e vedere gli aggiornamenti e
le news di queste pagine nella propria
home
Facebook ha lanciato un nuovo profilo
che, fino a qualche settimana fa, è
rimasto praticamente inalterato. Una
nuova struttura ed organizzazione dei
profili, notifica degli amici e/o fan in
comune e l’introduzione nella parte
centrale delle ultime foto in cui si è stati
taggati.
8. 2011 2012
Nel 2011 l'interfaccia viene
rivoluzionata. Facebook pone un lieve
rimedio ai problemi di privacy e
presenta il nuovo diario, introducendo
la Time Line. Il profilo degli utenti sarà
un vero e proprio album virtuale con il
quale si potranno rivivere gli eventi più
importanti nel corso degli anni.

Il 2013 è l'anno del cross-platform. Il
social network cambia faccia ed
introduce delle novità grafiche che
saranno unificate indifferentemente dalla
piattaforma con la quale verranno
visualizzate, il 50% dei contenuti del
News Feed si focalizzerà sulle immagini
e sarà personalizzabile grazie ad alcuni
filtri.

Questa novità indica la possibilità
di ringraziare le persone care in
vari modi: collage, foto e video
divertenti.
