Objectives:
This paper will present an overview of health insurance literacy research. As information professionals providing a host of services, it is essential to serve as credible sources of Affordable Care Act and health insurance information, particularly in discussions with professionals, funding sources, and decision makers. The presented strategies will be supplemented with real-life examples of librarians serving in these evidence-based roles.
Methods:
A review of health insurance literacy research was conducted in core databases (i.e., PubMed, Web of Science, etc.). The literature was summarized according to librarian role and/or outreach strategy. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with librarians who provide Affordable Care Act and/or health insurance information services to identify best practice profiles of evidence-based librarianship.
Results:
A review of the health insurance literature suggests that librarians can play a role in supporting health insurance information needs by locating and advocating for easy-to-understand information, linking to helpful insurance resources (e.g., healthcare.gov, Medicare & You, etc.), and offering live presentations of pertinent health insurance information. The best practice profiles identified in the semi-structured interviews include information mediator, programming host, research support, presentation support, embedded clinical support, and librarian advocate. These roles support the evidence-based strategies identified through the literature review and offer concrete examples of current effort in this area.
Conclusion:
The evidence-based strategies and best practice profiles offer examples of the kinds of services librarians are providing in this arena and are presented as potential springboards for librarians seeking to enrich their information resources and services regarding the Affordable Care Act. Many of these ideas can be implemented in a wide variety of settings building on the kinds of work already being done in the library. The concrete and practical suggestions offered by the evidence presented demonstrate the relevance of librarians to health insurance literacy research and interventions.

Following the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in 2013, many librarians were called upon to answer questions about health insurance and provide access to quality information about both insurance and the ACA law in general. This study was conducted to assess the provision of health insurance information by health sciences librarians following ACA implementation.
Methods
A survey was administered to health sciences librarians and distributed through popular medical library listservs (e.g., MEDLIB-L and MACMLA-L), Twitter (#medlibs), and Facebook. A total of 222 respondents began the survey, with 191 complete responses.
Now into its ninth year, Fjord’s annual Trends Report 2016 has arrived and, once again, we unveil what we believe to be the most significant technology and business developments emerging and describe how they will transform our world in the coming 12 months.

Creating a Culture of Evidence-Based Practice
Evidence-based practice (EBP) in its most simplistic form is using the evidence, whether from clinical experiences or patient preferences, to make decisions that affect patient care positively (Polit & Beck, 2017). Evidence-based practice is essential for determining changes in practice that are needed to protect and provide safe care for patients. Nurses are the front-line of the healthcare system and are able to recognize and change policies and procedures. Therefore, nurses are responsible for sharing with their peers and co-workers the information obtained from their evidence-based research.
In order to make evidence-based changes, a dissemination plan needs to be in place. In our facility, our evidence-based practice nurse committee is responsible for teaching the staff on changes in practice. Once they have decided on the changes they present the information to the Emergency Department leadership. From there the changes are reported to the nursing staff through department meetings, bulletin boards, and online learning modules. This is based on the ACE Star Model of Knowledge Transformation which seeks to take research findings and use them to impact patient outcomes by using evidence-based care (Polit & Beck, 2017).
“Often in the dissemination phase, there are considerable barriers that exist. These barriers consist of prejudice toward findings, lack of approval from leadership, nurses attitudes, and the resources needed to make changes. Moore & Tierney (2019) found,
“an overarching theme of disconnection between research and evidence and the participants’ perceptions of contemporary nursing practice was underpinned by three themes:
1) We should be using it… but we’re not.
2) Employees suggested that research involvement was something left after graduation and no longer part of their day-to-day roles.
3) Research is other people’s business (p. 90).
In another report, it was suggested that evidence-based practice is challenging for nurses because of the pressures of a patient satisfaction culture and time constraints when caring for patients (Henderson & Fletcher, 2015). These barriers can only be overcome if nursing leadership has the courage to address them and help nurses see the positive benefits of evidence-based practice.
A culture of change is vital to making a significant improvement in the lives of patients. At this time nursing researchers are limited by a non-existent research culture leaving them nurses with the responsibility to develop that culture (Berthelsen & Holge-Hazelton, 2018). Creating an awareness of the research that is taking place by their peers removes the barriers of feeling not competent to participate. As nursing leadership, our role is to build a culture that creates curiosity and critical reflection ab.

As a result of the fragmented nature of the health care system, professionals in various specialty areas of medicine have developed their own unique sets of terminology to communicate within that specialty. In the past, limited attention has been given to codifying practices in order for them to be understood and utilized across disciplines or through different information technology systems. The implementation of a federally mandated electronic medical records system, therefore, poses a challenge to nursing professionals and others who must be prepared to utilize standardized codes for the new system. Why are coding standards important for promoting consistent, high-quality care?
According to Rutherford (2008, para. 15), “Improved communication with other nurses, health care professionals, and administrators of the institution in which nurses work is a key benefit of using a standardized nursing language.” In this Discussion you consider the reasoning behind and the value of standardized codification.

In the article, “Standardized Nursing Language: What Does It Mean for Nursing Practice?” the author recounts a visit to a local hospital to view its implementation of a new coding system. One of the nurses commented to her, “We document our care using standardized nursing languages but we don't fully understand why we do” (Rutherford, 2008, para. 1). Consider how you would inform this nurse (and others like her) of the importance of standardized nursing terminologies.
Reflect on the value of using a standard language in nursing practice. Consider if standardization can be limited to a specialty area or if one standard language is needed across all nursing practice. Then, identify examples of standardization in your own specialty or area of expertise. Conduct additional research using the Walden Library that supports your thoughts on standardization of nursing terminology.

Public Health professionals communicate with a variety of audiences in their daily work. While reasonably well-accepted that special consideration be given to low-literate health care consumers in clinical settings, less emphasis has been given to applying health literacy in diverse sectors of public health. Poor health literacy is not limited to those with language or reading skill barriers - only 12% of Americans understand the health information they receive.
As public health professionals we have a responsibility to understand the health literacy barriers. This presentation will provide tips and resources where public health professionals can make a difference in increasing the success of their communication efforts.
While one flu season can pass mildly and with minimal activity, another may hit the country early and hard. CDC health communicators work with subject matter experts and stakeholders to develop messages for a variety of audiences, employing different types of media for effective reach. Due to unforeseen variables, the 2012-2013 flu season posed specific challenges. This presentation will highlight some of those challenges, showcase strategies and messaging used, and preview what’s to come for the 2013-2014 season.

This paper presents a novel way of creating classroom guidelines by asking the students themselves to construct them. Objectives: It is a widely perceived but poorly documented problem that many individuals lack clear understanding of health insurance. Librarians can address the unmet information needs that leave many unable to make appropriate health insurance choices. For those with lower levels of health insurance literacy, the ability to procure appropriate levels of health insurance coverage may be limited, which can have dire effects on individuals’ health statuses.
Methods: This study employed semi-structured interviews to explore how newly hired employees at a large university in the southeastern United States understand health insurance concepts and make health insurance purchase decisions. This paper will offer examples of the information needs they described and an analysis of the trends across individuals.
Results: Participants divulged a lack of understanding of insurance-related terminology (e.g., coinsurance). Their confidence in navigating the health insurance system decreased as education levels increased (i.e., those with a doctoral degree reported the lowest level of confidence in navigating health insurance enrollment). Participants also expressed difficulty in locating insurance information resources that were unbiased. These findings underscore an important role that librarians can play in providing access to unbiased, authoritative definitions of health insurance terms.
Conclusion: The collected data form the foundation for the construction of a model of the health insurance decision-making process and offer insight to the library and information science community on how to support health insurance information needs. The proposed model and discussion demonstrate continued difficulty with understanding health insurance concepts and the factors which impact health insurance literacy and decision-making.
Best Practices in Affordable Care Act Information Activismevardell
Objectives
Following the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in 2013, many librarians were called upon to answer questions about health insurance and provide access to quality information about both insurance and the ACA law in general. This presentation will share original research conducted to explore the services librarians are providing to support ACA information needs. These best practice profiles offer examples of the kinds of services librarians are providing in this arena and are presented as potential springboards for librarians seeking to become unbiased ACA information activists.
Methods
This two-part, mixed methods study began with a survey administered to health sciences librarians to capture the variety of ways librarians addressed health insurance information needs. These results paint a picture of large scale trends in the types of ACA services librarians are providing. The study then focused on specific examples of current best practices obtained through semi-structured interviews.
Results:
The nationwide trends identifed through the survey demonstrate what librarians are currently doing and bring attention to areas where librarians could be doing more (e.g., obtaining ACA-related training, proactively market services, etc.). The best practice profiles identified through the semi-structured interviews provide clear examples of the kind of ACA information services librarians are providing. These profiles include information mediator, programming host, research support, presentation support, embedded clinical support, and librarian advocate.
Conclusions
Each of the profiles will be presented to demonstrate how librarians can become ACA information activists in their institutions. These specific, real-life examples demonstrate how librarians are taking on ACA information activism within their job responsibilities and may provide concrete strategies for how other librarians can undertake new projects and initiatives in ACA and health insurance information services.

Title: Collaborating with Public Librarians to Promote Emergency Preparedness and Safety Awareness
Objective: To promote awareness of emergency preparedness and family safety resources from the National Library of Medicine (NLM) and the local community among public librarians and their patrons by partnering with the public library system to host fairs and training.
Methods: The Louis Calder Memorial Library received an Express Community Day Award from the National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NN/LM) to partner with the Miami Dade County Public Library librarians to promote emergency preparedness and safety awareness. Named "Safety Fair: Keep Your Family Safe: Emergency Preparedness at Home and Away," the events improved the public librarians’ knowledge of NLM resources, such as TOXNET, MedlinePlus, ToxTown, ToxMystery, and WISER, as well as university-created resources, such as the Family Disaster Plan Guidebook in English and Spanish and a coloring book for the many children attending the summer fairs. A train-the-trainer program was also implemented for the public librarians. Class participants were asked to fill out a brief questionnaire after the training sessions.
Results: Over 1,000 participants, mostly from underserved populations, attended the three safety fairs. In addition to a quick demonstration of NLM resources, more than 400 Family Disaster Plan Guides and hurricane preparedness coloring books were distributed to the attendees. Calder librarians also held 3 train-the-trainer sessions for the public librarians and branch managers. Forty-four train-the-trainer questionnaires were collected. Although a few trainees noted that it may have been beneficial to have longer training sessions, all 44 responders rated the training sessions as “Helpful” or “Very Helpful.” Most (72%-85%) claimed to already know of MedlinePlus and TOXNET. Trainers reported that they were more likely to obtain home safety information that came from print resources than from other experts.
Conclusion: The fairs were well attended, allowing librarians to deliver useful home safety information to a large underserved audience. Based on this experience, partnerships with public librarians have developed and new opportunities have emerged.

Supporting Evidence-based Medicine Training and Implementation in Haiti evardell
Due to both a long-standing presence and geographic proximity, the University of Miami clinicians were some of the first responders in Haiti following the January 2010 earthquake. To support the immediate and varied needs of these responders, the Calder librarians created a website gathering both freely available and commercially licensed material most relevant to the first responders and donated two boxes of core medical textbooks. The Calder Library then received an Express Disaster Recovery Award from the National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NN/LM), Southeastern/Atlantic Regional Library, to bring laptops and other technical support to the University of Miami medical tent and the long-standing training of Haitian physicians and nurses. This award led to an invitation to join a University of Miami field visit to Haiti to observe firsthand the work there and implement a needs assessment of the University of Miami affiliates onsite as well as the Haitian medical students and nurses in training. This presentation will also discuss the Emergency Access Initiative and its first implementation in Haiti, in addition to the planning process, necessary troubleshooting, and the challenges of working in both a disaster setting and a developing country.

Em consonância com os ODS – Objetivos do Desenvolvimento Sustentável e a Estratégia Global para a Saúde das Mulheres, Crianças e Adolescentes, e aplicando uma abordagem baseada nos direitos humanos, os esforços de cuidados pós-natais devem expandir-se para além da cobertura e da simples sobrevivência, de modo a incluir cuidados de qualidade.
Estas diretrizes visam melhorar a qualidade dos cuidados pós-natais essenciais e de rotina prestados às mulheres e aos recém-nascidos, com o objetivo final de melhorar a saúde e o bem-estar materno e neonatal.
Uma “experiência pós-natal positiva” é um resultado importante para todas as mulheres que dão à luz e para os seus recém-nascidos, estabelecendo as bases para a melhoria da saúde e do bem-estar a curto e longo prazo. Uma experiência pós-natal positiva é definida como aquela em que as mulheres, pessoas que gestam, os recém-nascidos, os casais, os pais, os cuidadores e as famílias recebem informação consistente, garantia e apoio de profissionais de saúde motivados; e onde um sistema de saúde flexível e com recursos reconheça as necessidades das mulheres e dos bebês e respeite o seu contexto cultural.

Disruption of blood supply to lung alveoli due to blockage of one or more pulmonary blood vessels is called as Pulmonary thromboembolism. In this presentation we will discuss its causes, types and its management in depth.
Ethanol (CH3CH2OH), or beverage alcohol, is a two-carbon alcohol
that is rapidly distributed in the body and brain. Ethanol alters many
neurochemical systems and has rewarding and addictive properties. It
is the oldest recreational drug and likely contributes to more morbidity,
mortality, and public health costs than all illicit drugs combined. The
5th edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders
(DSM-5) integrates alcohol abuse and alcohol dependence into a single
disorder called alcohol use disorder (AUD), with mild, moderate,
and severe subclassifications (American Psychiatric Association, 2013).
In the DSM-5, all types of substance abuse and dependence have been
combined into a single substance use disorder (SUD) on a continuum
from mild to severe. A diagnosis of AUD requires that at least two of
the 11 DSM-5 behaviors be present within a 12-month period (mild
AUD: 2–3 criteria; moderate AUD: 4–5 criteria; severe AUD: 6–11 criteria).
The four main behavioral effects of AUD are impaired control over
drinking, negative social consequences, risky use, and altered physiological
effects (tolerance, withdrawal). This chapter presents an overview
of the prevalence and harmful consequences of AUD in the U.S.,
the systemic nature of the disease, neurocircuitry and stages of AUD,
comorbidities, fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, genetic risk factors, and
pharmacotherapies for AUD.
