Local authorities recognize that integration needs to happen where immigrants live and work, not just through national policy. Cities and municipalities play a key role in welcoming newcomers and helping them contribute to their new communities by coordinating with different levels of government and local partners. The OECD emphasizes that local governments working together are important for integrating migrants and refugees.
This document discusses the need for more housing delivery in Britain and proposes some potential solutions. It highlights that collaboration between the public and private sectors, enabling more suitable development through planning reforms, and recognizing different housing tenures like build-to-rent in planning are important steps. A key idea is that the planning system needs to properly support and incentivize build-to-rent housing, which could significantly increase delivery and improve rental standards. Collaboration between local councils and other groups is also emphasized as important to unlocking more supply.
The Trust for London provides around £8 million annually in grants to approximately 120 London organizations. Its funding priorities for 2018-2022 include promoting decent living standards, better work opportunities, shared wealth, pathways to settlement for immigrants, stronger community voices, and improved housing and neighborhoods. The Trust funds advocacy, legal aid, community organizing, and capacity building activities. It considers both grant and social investment applications on a rolling basis throughout the year.
This report summarizes the 2016 waiting lists survey conducted by the Ontario Non-Profit Housing Association (ONPHA). It finds that 171,360 households are now waiting for rent-geared-to-income housing in Ontario, a 45,000 household increase since 2003. Average wait times have increased to nearly 4 years province-wide. While rent-geared-to-income housing waiting lists provide some data on housing demand, they do not capture the full depth of housing need or new flexible housing assistance programs across communities. This will be the final report in ONPHA's waiting lists survey series, as housing policy has evolved to focus on local solutions and a range of assistance options beyond traditional public housing.
Housing and homelessness plan presentation2OntarioEast
The County of Hastings developed a housing and homelessness plan with a completion date of June 2013. They identified stakeholders and divided them into sectors. The first community consultation was held on June 27th in the center of the municipality. Six questions were developed for breakout sessions. Next steps include further data collection, obtaining demographic information, determining missing information from sectors, and developing strategies to meet identified objectives and targets. The process has helped build relationships but managing expectations has been challenging.
This document summarizes a conference on inclusionary zoning held by the APA-MA. It outlines the key initiatives of the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) including expanding housing opportunities and ending homelessness. It then discusses the Local Initiative Program (LIP), which allows locally initiated affordable housing developments to count toward state housing targets. It notes the requirements for LIP units to count, including long-term deed restrictions, fair housing marketing, and affordability for low-income residents. Finally, it emphasizes the importance of political will, planning, capacity building, and relationships to support affordable housing development.

End-to-end pipeline agility - Berlin Buzzwords 2024Lars Albertsson
We describe how we achieve high change agility in data engineering by eliminating the fear of breaking downstream data pipelines through end-to-end pipeline testing, and by using schema metaprogramming to safely eliminate boilerplate involved in changes that affect whole pipelines.
A quick poll on agility in changing pipelines from end to end indicated a huge span in capabilities. For the question "How long time does it take for all downstream pipelines to be adapted to an upstream change," the median response was 6 months, but some respondents could do it in less than a day. When quantitative data engineering differences between the best and worst are measured, the span is often 100x-1000x, sometimes even more.
A long time ago, we suffered at Spotify from fear of changing pipelines due to not knowing what the impact might be downstream. We made plans for a technical solution to test pipelines end-to-end to mitigate that fear, but the effort failed for cultural reasons. We eventually solved this challenge, but in a different context. In this presentation we will describe how we test full pipelines effectively by manipulating workflow orchestration, which enables us to make changes in pipelines without fear of breaking downstream.
Making schema changes that affect many jobs also involves a lot of toil and boilerplate. Using schema-on-read mitigates some of it, but has drawbacks since it makes it more difficult to detect errors early. We will describe how we have rejected this tradeoff by applying schema metaprogramming, eliminating boilerplate but keeping the protection of static typing, thereby further improving agility to quickly modify data pipelines without fear.

hearings, and other proceedings have
been halted.
● Cases can still be filed.
● Expires April 19, 2020.

18. What if we need to extend this pause?

● More people could get
counted in Census 2020.
● Seasonal and geographic
patterns could inform
additional funding for housing
services and rental assistance.
● Advocates should look at the
whole system.
20. Questions we’re thinking about
● How can renters meet rent obligations if they are unemployed?
● How can landlords meet their financial obligations if tenants don’t pay rent?
● What are the ways we can promote dialogue between landlords and
tenants?
● How can we get housing support services involved prior to eviction case
filings?
● How can we support good things already in motion for Harris County?

21. How can we work with what we already have?
