The history of Everest dates back to the early 20th century when the first attempts to climb Mount Everest were made by British mountaineers. Imagine a group of daring British adventurers and their sights set on the world's highest majestic Mount Everest. The year was 1920, and these courageous souls were determined on their very first expedition to conquer this titanic peak.
This ambitious mission impossible journey was led by Colonel Charles Howard-Bury including a team of seven climbers, one of whom was George Mallory. Mallory's name would echo throughout history, impressing itself in the chronicles of mountaineering legends for his persistent and spirited attempts to scale Everest's lofty heights.
The expedition made it to a height of around 26,800 feet (8,170 meters). This was indeed the highest altitude reached by humans at the time. However, they were forced to turn back due to a combination of factors, including bad weather, difficult terrain, and equipment failures. Despite not reaching the summit, the expedition was considered a success in terms of the scientific and mapping work that was carried out, as well as the knowledge gained about high-altitude mountaineering.
The experience gained by the climbers would also prove valuable in subsequent expeditions. Mallory returned to Everest in 1921 and 1924, the latter of which would be his final attempt, during which he disappeared while attempting to reach the summit. The mystery of whether or not he and his climbing partner, Andrew Irvine, reached the summit before their disappearance remains unsolved to this day.
In 1953, Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay became the first people to reach the summit of Mount Everest. They established their base camp at the foot of the Khumbu Icefall, which is now known as the southern base camp, on the Nepalese side of the mountain.
Since then, the southern base camp has become the main starting point for climbers attempting to summit Mount Everest. It is situated in the Khumbu Valley, which is home to the Sherpa people, who are renowned for their mountaineering skills and hospitality.

- 1. Everest trekking is a tremendous journey to the base camp of world highest mountains on foot. It is strenuous hiking goes along the Dudh Kosi Valley and alpine settlement. Everest region offers close-up Mt. Everest (8848 m.) views while walking in the UNESCO heritage site ‘Sagarmatha National Park’ and Sherpa village, Namche Bazaar. The journey begins after Kathmandu-Lukla flight (30 minutes) or Kathmandu-Jiri bus tour (8 hours). Everest hiking itinerary is Everest base camp trek, short everest base camp trek, Everest high pass trek, Gokyo Lake trek and Everest view trek Everest trekking is an adventure trip in yak and yeti land through the foothill of highest mountains. Everest region is second popular destination after Annapurna. Sir George Everest in 1865 and Baburam Acharya in 1956 declared the name of Sagarmatha in Nepali and Mount Everest in English. Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay found a trail in 1953. Afterward, it became the world news in international media. It lasts one week to three weeks. Winter temperature remains cold and dry with snowfall. Annually, forty thousand tourists visit in Everest region. There are numerous snow-covered mountains, including Lhotse (8516 m), Nuptse (7879 m), Cho Oyu (8201 m), Pumori (7145 m), Ama Dablam (6856 m), Thamserku (6608 m), Kusum Kanguru (6367 m) and Mera peak (6654 m). Cho La (5420 m) and Renjola (5360 m) are the high passes. The highest airport, Syangboche (3720 m), Khumjung Monastery (with a skull of yeti), Chukung Ri (5350 m), Everest Base Camp (5364 m), Kalapathar (5545 m) and the highest glacier, Khumbu are popular destination.
