What is Distribution?
Distribution is where a company will either buy the rights for a
film at film festivals or will make the films themselves. Once they
own the films the next task the distribution companies will have
to do is to market these films out, in the build up to the release
of the film they distributers will have to find a target audience so
they know the different marketing techniques they have to
adopt in order to get more people to watch the film.
Examples of distribution companies
Think about the sort of film you have produced. Compare this to the type of
films the distribution companies have released before – are any of them likely
to be interested in your film? Explain why.

• I believe our film would be distributed by a major
company or a branch off of a major company
because looking at films that are similar to our film
such as The Talented Mr Ripley who was distributed
by Miramax which is part of Walt Disney and
Paramount also distributed the cinema and the DVD
  version.
Is your film going to appeal to UK audiences only? Or
                  does it have a wider
                appeal? Why? Why not?

• I think that our film, because it’s based in
England may appeal to English film goers
more but because the distribution companies
who do take interest in these films such as
Miramax are American therefore this may
  also appeal to American audiences.
Some thought about possible marketing
          strategies, release strategies and
                  exhibition options

• If we were to self-produce and distribute our film
it would be beneficial because there are No
ifs, and, or buts. our film will open on a specific
date and will run for an entire 7-day week. Also
there will be no complex distribution agreements
to muddle through. No need for an expensive
entertainment lawyer. We will recieve 100% of
the box office income. But on the down side it
will cost so much more to self produce and
distribute the film. Or we could use a indipendant
company to distribute our film because it will be
cheap and we could advertise our film.
