How did you use media
technologies in the construction
and research, planning and
evaluation stages?
Introduction
Throughout my media course this year I have
used different types of technology for my
coursework. It is also common for film industries
to use technologies from editing their
films, filming them, and advertising. In this
PowerPoint I will be talking to about the
strengths and weaknesses and how I have used
the different technologies throughout my A2
media course.
Research in Technology
I, as well as other film industries round the
world under took research before undertaking
my joint trailer. You can undertake research in
many ways, lots involving technology. Such as
setting up an online survey asking peers what
their views on the plans for the trailer would be.
I can use social media sites such as Twitter or
Facebook for this.
Editing programmes
I used different programmes on the Apple Mac to help me edit my products so that it can
become the best piece possible. For my ancillary products I started off using Photoshop to
edit a still picture which I got from my film trailer. I was then able to upload it to Adobe
Design CS3, where I was then able to create the pictures into my ancillary products, my
poster and magazine front cover. Here I was able to add effects such as typography, where I
added fonts which were conventional to my thriller theme.
For my film trailer first we used Panasonic video cameras which was accompanied by a
tripod to steady the camera. After filming my footage I uploaded the work to Final Cut
Express where I was able to then edit the film trailer on it. Final Cut Express is a program
which is design to enable users to edit film footage with such as effects which can make the
cuts from each clip better and more advanced. I used the fade edit most commonly as it
fulfilled my thriller criteria and from my research that I carried out highlighted it is used
often through out different trailers. My ident which was created on Livetype which is a
software program developed by Apple to create animated title sequences for video
projects.
Social Networks
Using social networking sites such as Facebook and
Twitter, like I’ve said in the research slide, social
networking sites can give good research. On
Facebook you have the opportunity to set up polls
that people can give their opinion on. Also it can get
people to comment on any products that I upload
giving me an thoughts upon my media work.
However disadvantages of using social networking
sites would be that most of the people that come
across my work will be my peers and friends so
their opinions may be biased just to please me.
Soundtrack
For my film trailer product I needed to incorporate
a soundtrack with the trailer. I managed to create it
on the Logic Pro which is a digital audio workstation
and MIDI sequencer software. Negatives of Logic
Pro is that unlike Soundtrack Pro you can’t see your
footage while adding the soundtrack and therefore
being able to work around it. The software allows
me to make a sound track with different
instruments. I also had the access to other
software's that I could use for my soundtrack alike
Garageband and Soundtrack Pro.
Presentational softwares
Throughout my media project this year I have used
different presentational softwares, especially in my
evaluation questions section of my blog. I used
programs such as Prezi which an online
presentation site where you can personalise your
presentation. It is free flowing and very attractive
which is a strength. Other programmes such as
Microsoft PowerPoint are beneficial as like Prezi
you can get the information you want in an
attractive way from slide to slide.
