1. Evaluation – Question 1 In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

3. For our main title we used a similar font commonly found in games, this themed the title and made it link with the plot of our film. We positioned the title in the centre and made it very prominent but with the action behind it as we found this was usually used in action thriller films.

4. We used Cabot Circus for our location, we used this as most action thriller as located in ordinary cities/suburbs. This also added to the normality as people can relate to the shopping centre and area.

5. We used average looking clothes as costumes that a young male would wear, we chose this as in action thriller films the main characters are frequently normal ordinary people, normally males but recently female heroines are becoming more common.

6. The 6 th shot is in game footage, we decided to put this in quickly to add suspense and confusion, which is a main convention in action thriller films.

7. The shots we used to introduce our ‘bad guy’ character were either far away or from behind keeping the distance between the viewer and the character. In action thriller films they use shadows to portray ‘bad guys’ and this is what we tried to show here. We chose smart/casual clothes for the ‘bad guy’ this is so that he would fit into the normal surroundings but stick our a little bit as a suspicious character.

8. We used appropriate props, the playstation controller to add to the mise-en-scene and make it look more believable, this is found in all films not just action thrillers as with the wrong mise-en-scene the film would not be believable and the viewers would notice things that looked out of place.

9. We created tension in the film by placing the very ordinary character into a difficult situation or trap that seems impossible to escape, very common in thriller films, fighting against the ‘bad guys’.

10. We also added tones of eerie music when the game footage was happening and the ‘bad guy’ was being shown to make it more clear to the audience. The music we added really helped to emphasise the excitement convention, the music is very key in creating the mood and if got wrong can change the whole feeling of the film. When choosing research we looked at games to see what sort of music they had and the mood they made us feel to base our music on.
