Music
๏ฎ The music in the films I watched in the action/ adventure genre
was generally fast paced and had a heavy beat
๏ฎ Music was often used in fast paced scenes such as fight or
chase scenes to help speed up the action
๏ฎ At points ambient music was used to build suspense. An
example of this from the movie SALT when Angelina Jolie has
to escape capture from the police and a quite ambient
soundtrack builds suspense
๏ฎ Although it is a good idea to use fast paced music to add speed
and build tension, I would prefer to challenge and go against
this in our final product
3. + ๏ฎ In my final product I shall use less conventional music such as
classical to give a different vibe to the film
๏ฎ I think using classical music will change the mood from action
packed and fast paced to quite and a sense of forboding

Characters
๏ฎ The majority of characters in the films I researched were males
๏ฎ Not only this, but they were very masculine, confident and
muscular
๏ฎ Characters such as; John Wayne (Bruce Willis in Die Hard), Jason
Bourne (Matt Damon in The Bourne Trilogy) and Aragorn
(ViggoMortennsen in The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy) reinforce this.
๏ฎ These characters are obviously appealing to the aspirations of
men. They rescue women, fire guns and fight bad guys. This may
be the reason why men are so attracted to the action/ adventure
genre
๏ฎ Also, these characters may appeal to women
5. + ๏ฎ In the movie SALT Angelina Jolie plays a CIA agent who goes
on the run after being accused of being a Russian spy.
Although she practical and has a lot of experience and training
she still wears make up in every scene, and wear outfits that
are clearly designed to entice men
๏ฎ This shows again how the genre may be aimed majorly at men
๏ฎ The majority of action movies establish a main character very
early on so that the audience has time to get to know him/ her.
๏ฎ There is usually a very attractive female character in these
films as well. This is again, appealing to the male audience

Camerawork
๏ฎ In action movies where there is a chase scene (which is
common in this genre) the camera work is usually shaky and
seems to be chasing the main character. This puts the
audience in the front seat and lets the experience the movie as
if they were in it. This makes it more immersive, and the
immersive apectis one of the main reason point of view shots
are so prominent in action movies
