During the construction of their media project, the student used various technologies at different stages:
- A camera and tripod to film videos and take photographs for their pop-up advertisements. Software like Photoshop and Premier Pro were used to edit the footage.
- An Apple Mac to store, save, and edit filmed/photographed content. It also allowed exporting finished pieces to sites like YouTube.
- Word was used to create documentation during planning. Premier Pro and Photoshop were used to create the finished advertisements.
- Online platforms like YouTube, Google, and social media were used for research, feedback, and uploading finished work.

Here i have evaluated my products in terms of digital technologies used for research, planning, production and evaluation.

3. Research and Planning –
During the research and planning section of the project I used my camera in
order to take images of the different possible locations that I could use to film
my advertisements.
Construction –
During construction I used my camera to film all of the videos and take the photographs for my
pop-up.This worked well because my AS work gave me practice with this meaning this time it
was a lot quicker and easier.
Evaluation –
Not used.
4. Research and Planning –
I used the tripod to practice the movement of the camera.
Construction –
I used the tripod in construction in order to keep my shots steady and consistent.This works
well as it made all of my shots more professional and composed well.
Evaluation –
Not used.
5. Planning and research –
In order to create everything during the research and stage of media I
worked on an Apple Mac. Due to me using a mac throughout AS I was much
more confident when using it to create my A-level
work.This gave me an advantage as this saved time as I knew where to find all the required
programs.The main programs used during the research and planning stage include…YouTube,
Web 2.0, Google,Word, Blogger, Facebook,Twitter.
Construction –
During the construction stage of the project the mac was a place to store and save any filming
or photographs intended to be used in my work. It also allowed me to use the programs
premier pro and Photoshop to create and store any edits created.The macs access online also
allowed me to export my final pieces toYouTube to then be put onto the blog.
Evaluation –
During the evaluation stage the mac once again allowed me to create videos and documents
through the use of programs such as word and premier pro. It also allowed me to review any
work done so far in order to evaluate it.
7. Research and planning -
I have usedWord in order to create all of the documentation such as risk
assessments, location scouting sheet and talent release forms. during the
planning stage of my project.Word worked really well for this as I could choose the layout
easily and set the font and size to exactly how I want it.
During this portfolio I have learnt how to upload word documents to the blog through a site
called slide share
Construction –
Not used.
Evaluation –
During the evaluation section I used word to create planning for each
evaluation question and as a checklist.
8. Research and Planning -
During the planning section of this unit premier pro has allowed me to
practice with different effects and features allowing me to produce my final
product to a high standard and with the desired features. Since AS I have
become more confident with Premier pro and I can now complete more complex edits and
videos.
Construction –
I used Premier pro during the construction stage in order to create my main two adverts and
the radio advertisement. This is a really useful program which, I have definitely improved with
sinceAs level. I have become more familiar with the layout and features of premier pro
resulting in more complex edits that fit more closely with what I am trying to achieve. I have
also learnt how to resize and put more videos into one screen which has been really helpful.
Evaluation –
During the evaluation stage I used premier pro in order to create videos using all of my final
works adding labels and sounds that illustrate what I was
trying to achieve.This worked really well as it allowed me to
learn even more of the features of this program which I didn’t
learn when creating my actual advertisements.
9. Research and Planning -
During construction Photoshop has allowed me to create my pop-up in
various designs and colours allowing me to get audience feedback and end
up with the desired pop up.This worked really well because I could basically
use any features that I want with the internet acting as a source to research any functions
which I didn’t understand. I have made huge progress with Photoshop sinceAS I had never
used certain features such as shapes and text and I am now able to create quite complicated
pieces of work.
Construction –
During construction I used Photoshop to create my final pop-up.This worked well because I
could use all of the colours and shapes that I want in an easy way and easily incorporate and
edit the photo so that Its as I required it to be. It was especially helpful for changing the colours
in the photograph and cutting out he background. I have definitely improved with Photoshop
sinceAs level as I am now really familiar with the features and complex edits that can be made.
Evaluation –
Not used.
11. Planning and research –
Using web 2.0 allowed me to complete any research, planning
and uploading to the blog. As I have been using this for all of my
work throughout education I have felt confident whilst using it.
The main use for web 2.0 with regards to planning and research
was the use of sites such asYouTube and Google allowing me to research existing media
products.Also allowing me to get onto the blog to document all of my work.
Construction –
During the construction stage web 2.0 allowed me to download any sound effects or music that
I needed for my work. It also allowed me to upload all of my finished work to the blog for
marking and evaluating.
Evaluation –
During the evaluation web 2.0 allowed me to research other peoples evaluations to get ideas
for my own. It also allowed me to upload my finished evaluation to the blog.
12. Planning and research –
During the research and planning section, I used Google to research into
existing public awareness campaigns and the advertising surrounding them.
Google allows easy access to millions of different websites that offer all
different ways of presenting and editing work, therefore allowing me to find the conventions
to follow, challenge and develop in my work. Since AS I have improved on Google by using
more precise searches and knowing what to look for resulting in quicker planning and
research.
Construction –
During the construction stage Google was a really helpful platform for searching different
features on premier pro and Photoshop.
Evaluation –
Google was helpful when searching for ideas for my evaluations.
13. Research and planning -
UsingGmail allowed me to transfer work back and forward to myself and
kept a latest copy of my work. I also Used it in order to contact my actors and
the owners of the music in which I intended to use for my work. Lastly Gmail
allowed me to keep in contact with my teacher in order to communicate of the progress of my
work etc.
Construction –
During construction Gmail once again allowed me to transfer work back and forward to myself.
Evaluation –
Not used.
14. Research and Planning –
In order to gain audience feedback on my work I created a fan page for
my campaign on both twitter and Facebook.This worked really well as this allowed me to
share my work with other people and receive positive and constructive feedback. Before
completing this unit of work I had not yet created a fan page on other of these site so this is an
area in which I have progressed and I hope that will come in handy with future products.
Construction –
During the construction stage I used Facebook andTwitter to receive constructive criticism
from my intended audience. I did not do this in AS so this meant that my finished work was as
close to audience expectations as possible.
Evaluation –
I will use Facebook and twitter to create a questionnaire regarding my
finished work and then I will analyze the feedback.
15. Research and Planning -
Throughout my media A-level blogger has been a very useful website for
sharing my own work and looking at the work of others. I have learnt how to
upload everything from photos, documents and videos to blogger and my knowledge has
continued to grow sinceAS.
Construction –
For the construction section I have used blogger to display, organize and show my finished
work.This has allowed me to keep everything safe once completed and organized with labels.
Since doing my As’s I have become more familiar with changing the layout and style of the blog
which has meant I can make it more user friendly and easy to view.
Evaluation –
Once again I used the blog to display my finished work. I
also used it to view all of m work in an easy way in order
to evaluate it.
16. Research and Planning –
For the research and planning section I usedYouTube to look at existing
products in my subject are and downloaded them in order to evaluate and
