Bottoms Up
The daytime drinking show for students
The proposal...
Bottoms up is going to be a fun and exciting magazine show aimed solely
at university students. The show will feature different segments on how
alcohol is made by companies, making your own cocktails, the good stuff
and the bad stuff and generally entertain whilst educating them on
alcohol safety and having fun. We aim for the show to have a lively and
upbeat feel where the audience (all over 18 with relevant forms signed)
can get involved and have a good time. For the main body of the show we
are looking at having both a young male and female presenter who will
really fit the tone of the show. We already have two students from Bath
Spa who we think would fit the role and are more than willing to take part.
The show will start with an intro from both presenters standing in the
studio which will be designed to look like a club/bar. They will welcome
the audience and then introduce the first VT The first VT will be in the
style of a ‘how it’s made video’ as these are popular with our intended
audience. The female presenter will interview someone who has made a
local ale or cider etc. while the footage of the alcohol brewing and being
prepped etc. is shown on screen.
The presenter will then taste product, say thank you and send the show
back to the studio. Back in the studio our male presenter will be sitting at
the bar with a bartender who has come in from a local student bar/pub.
He will then interview said person about the most popular drinks, his
favourites, funny things students do etc. This presenter will then introduce
the next VT and hint at what’s coming up later in the show. The VT will be
vox pops of our female presenter talking to students (also all over 18 IDs
shown and forms signed) in town or a popular location about the best
places to go in bath, the cheapest way to get drunk and will also maybe
have a taste test of cheap cider and expensive cider which they have to
tell the difference. She will again then direct the show back to the studio.
This time the bartender and male presenter will be behind the bar where
they will have the ingredients to make a popular cocktail. They will have
about a minute on the clock to make said cocktail which they will then
serve and the female presenter will ask a few audience members to try it
and judge the winner. Both presenters will then come back together thank
the audience and people who helped out with the show insert end credits.

Research/Inspiration
● http://visitbath.co.uk/eating-and-drinking/bars - List of bars in
Bath helped inform us of all the options where we can shoot our
VT
● YouTube Videos such as Tipsy Bartender and Howcast give ‘How
it’s made’ style videos creating alcoholic drinks in a fun and
simple style that are popular with our young adult target
audience.
● We got inspiration for colour schemes and fonts from already
existing clubs bars finding out that ones with neon and bold
typography works for our audience and inspired what we want
for our show. Also included a rough sketch of what it might look
like in studio continuing with green/pink neon colour scheme
and showing the bar environment.
Please take a look at our mood board which
illustrates the colours and tones which we would
like to carry throughout our show, with the fonts,
costumes and sets etc.

The Presenters...
Taquan Allen
Taquan is a Bath Spa
student who is perfect for
the role, he has agreed to
take part and we will discuss
his ability at a later date.
Taylor Bond
Taylor is also at Bath spa,
studying acting. We have not
yet spoken to her about taking
part, however, feel that she is
perfect for the role and should
be more than happy to help out.
Studio
Bath Spa Students’ Union
We ideally would like to set up an OB
Studio in the SU bar giving it an
authentic bar atmosphere as opposed to
a staged one in the studio.
Possible locations...
VT 1
Graze
Home to Bath Ales - We may be able to
get access to film here through knowing
a member of staff there, it would be
ideal as it’s a popular bar and brewery in
the heart of Bath.
VT 2
Bath Town Centre
This would be for our Vox Pops - we
would be able to discuss with students
in a busy and lively town about best
places to go and drink on a budget.
The Music..
The music has been sourced by using the creative commons search.
We feel that the songs would fit the tone of our show as this style of music is laid back and doesn’t
take itself too seriously.

The Chroma-Key Element...
We have decided to include a chroma
key element in our program which will
involve a green screen. In the part of
the show where an audience member
is chosen to judge the cocktail
contest, a green screen will be used to
create a beach scene as who doesn't
enjoy a good old cocktail on the
beach?
ID and getting permissions..
All of the contributors to the show will be ID’d and sign all of the relevant
forms to ensure no one under the age of 18 will be given access to any
alcoholic beverage. As the show is aimed at students we hope that we won’t
be influencing anyone under the age of 18 to drink.
Thank you for your time.
