2. Section A: What aspects did I include in my poster?
I wanted my poster to represent the psychological genre that my trailer is about, or
majorityly about. The black colour denotes the darkness that our main character: Leo
is possessed by, and the symbolic nature of the alcohol bottles are the main narrative
driving force. Of course, adding in the outline of a brain then throws in the
psychological genre area, whereas the other two that the trailer revolves around
aren’t included. The black-white colouring symbolises the good and bad narrative
connotations from our main character – Leo.
I wanted to fade out the main image, and centre around the white brain outline,
simply because it’s not just alcohol that causes our main character to falter, and let
this demon in. By keeping it quite simple, yet describing through the images shown in
the poster, I’m able to get across one of the main genres that are in our trailer. Even if
you haven’t seen the trailer, you’d be able to get at least a little bit of knowledge from
the poster.

3. Section B: What aspects did I include in my magazine cover?
Looking at my magazine cover, I wanted to create something similar to my poster, and
keep the same colour scheme going on, so it was all connoting the same points with
the denotations of white = purity, and black = evil/darkness. I decided to put Olly (who
plays Leo) on the left hand side of the magazine, leaning towards the hero side if you
follow the rule-of-thirds, whereas if you look at the backstory of the trailer (A cop
whose haunted by a bad career decision) positioning him on the left means that he is
in theory a hero, although the demon that possesses him should mean he’s on the
right.
The dark background behind Olly situates the location for the trailer, and the colour
scheme is further implemented by Olly’s clothing, a white t-shirt and black jacket; no
accident. From there, the style and layout of the cover is similar to the one I compared
in my side-by-side analysis, from both Empire & Total Film. Having looked at it now, I
would have preferred to include the slash across the ‘Broken Mind’ text from the
poster, onto the magazine cover.

4. Finally, my poster is more linked to the trailer, due to the dark themes and iconography behind the backstory and the
narrative enigma that is my character haunted by a previous experience, and what’s driven him to absolute despair.
It’s very downbeat, it’s not at all joy filled, the dark generic conventions create danger and anger for the character Leo.
It helps connect the psychological genre that our trailer is, all about creating a dark mood that revolves around the
trailer in particular.
