Evaluation of
  Main Task
 By Moriah Johnson
-Planning
• To ensure I had a clear understanding about how
I wanted to plan an opening sequence I had to
look at opening sequences from other films.

• My group came up with their own individual
ideas and then we decided on which one we
wanted to choose evaluating the difficulties we
may come across. After we had decided on a
storyline we analysed a opening sequence of a
  film with the same genre.
-Planning a focus group survey to see which
• I also carried out
age, ethnicity and gender group was a suitable target
audience for our genre. This helped us understand the people
  our film will attract. We then analyse our findings;

                •Two examples of how we
                organised our findings
-Planning
• We also completed several pages of a story
  board, script and risk assessment.
-How my experience of the preliminary
task contributed to the main task
outcome
While I was planning out my main task I took
into consideration previous complication I had
 some across such as;
• Finding an appropriate indoor location with is hazardless
• Gaining permission and access to particular locations
• The transportation and safety of carrying around technical
  equipment in the outdoor environment
• Gaining permission to keep the equipment over the weekend
• Finding people willing to be in front of the camera
• Sticking to the scrip
-How my experience of the preliminary task
contributed to the main task outcome
• In conclusion we ensured we found actors
prior the week of filming, also we printed out
a copy of the script for all characters and
directed them on how to say things, and
  what to do.
-How our research changed our final product:
• After we carried out the
  focus group surveys and
  analysed our results we
  found 15-20 year we more
likely to visit the cinema in
  their free time. These
  findings allowed us to
  acknowledge that our film
  type will be more
  successful if it appeals to
  younger people, as they
are more likely to be the
  ones watching the film.
-In what ways does your media product use,
develop or challenge forms and conventions
   of real media products?
• I analysed “You Got
  Served” as it contained
  similar aspects as our
  original idea such as;
                                       Betrayal

   Gang Relations Conflict
-How does my particular media product
represent particular social groups
My final product represented and appeals to a
particular social group through a number of
 features such as ;
• Ethnicity
• Age
• Sub-culture
• Stereotypes
• Social status
-How does my particular media product
represent particular social groups
• We had to ensure our product was consistent
throughout to obtain the constant representation of
  the social group.
- In what ways does your media product use,
develop or challenge forms and conventions of
 real media products?
 • Furthermore my group took into consideration of Mise-en-
scene and concluded that the short opening sequence
should contain mainly outdoors scenes. As this is very
common among films of urban drama.
•Due to the locations we
chose to record I had to
complete a risk assessment
to ensure technical
equipment and passers by
were safe.
-How does my particular media product
represent particular social groups
• The main character in this product is stereotypically
connected to the idea of a gang like member
because he is dressed in a black tracksuit and
speaking informally with a restricted language code.
Which is popular among teenagers of today.
- In what ways does your media product
use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
• My opening sequence relates to other films of urban drama
because it colloquial language and the characters have an
informal sporty dress code. Such as tracksuits, trainers and
hooded jumpers. For example a wide-shot illustrates :

My Final Product of an Opening
A film of the same genre: 1Day
          Sequence.
- In what ways does your media product use,
develop or challenge forms and conventions of
 real media products?
 • Also throughout my sequence it was important to try and
build tension and create suspense. As in other gang related
films people are often always being observed and spied on
either by CCTV cameras or other gang members. This also
identifies main characters. For example a medium close-up
   demonstrates:
