Evaluation final piece
1. Evaluation final piece
My final piece is a mixture of primary images of portraits close up printed out in
monochrome, which I later tarred and placed over one another on top of PVA
glue. I then mixed PVA glue and black and white acrylic paint and poured it over
the top of the images, this was to create distortion. I used paintbrushes to push
the paint and glue to make it heavier in some places than others, which would
give a textured effect, once dry.
Once the piece was completely dried I again attempted to use the sewing
machine and went round some of the featured of the faces. I also used the heat
gun in thick areas to create a textured raised surface.
Overall I didn’t like how my final piece turned out, this is because I don’t believe
it shows the theme of distortion well enough, for example you can still see the
original photos clearly which wasn’t what I had aimed for. If I were to do this
again I would plan to put more than acrylic pain over the faces but also other
materials such as charcoal. Which is how one of the artist I researched (Kwangho
Shin) achieved a distortion of the face. I also don’t think I would sew round the
faces again as my sewing machine skills aren’t very advanced.
One thing I did like about my final piece was the textured surface, therefore I
think I will defiantly carry on using PVA glue in the thick amounts and go over it
with the heat gun as I believe it creates depth and adds to the distortion.
