The document discusses a media product created by the author for a college magazine targeted at students aged 16-20. The author challenged conventions by using a group photo of two males and two females rather than a single person. Bright, bubbly fonts and colors were used to attract the audience. The author learned that Microsoft Publisher is well-suited to magazine layouts as it allows flexible placement of images, text, and different fonts.
2. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? I challenged the media conventions by using a main image of four people rather than just one. I did this because using four happy people makes my audience connect with the picture rather than just one, because there were two males and two females rather than just one of one sex so that the audience could relate to this picture, summer time with your friends. I used A4 size which is the general norm and I used bright and Bubbly writing for the name of the magazine, I used this writing because it’s not the bog standard writing and to add character to the magazine. For the mast head I used green bubbly writing, I used green because it is a neutral colour for both sexes and I used the bubbly writing to stand out and attract .On the front cover I did the smaller subtitles of what to expect in the magazine in different bubbly white writing then put certain words in eye catching colour to draw in my audience and make it seem exciting. For my magazine I chose to use the main image because it was fun bubbly image where the people looked like they were having a good time, it’s sunny and there all smiling which reflects what the summer holidays should be like and seeing as this magazine is the summer/autumn issue I thought this image was appropriate for the magazine.
3. How does your media product represent particular social groups? My media product represents teenagers. It represents them because of the picture being four teenagers having a good time in the summer, which is what most teenagers tend to do with their holidays, its bright and bubbly and not to feminine or masculine so that it can be related to by both sets of groups. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? I think that educational media institutions would distribute my product. This is because it is designed to be a college magazine and a college is an educational institution. So this magazine would be distributed to colleges in England. I think my audience would be college students. Students aged 16-20.
4. How did you attract/address your audience? I have drawn in and attracted my audience by using bright colours, different and bubbly fonts, but also fonts that are easy to read, I have made my product easy to read so that my audience doesn’t get bored half way through. I used different pictures, that can relate to what they might have done in the summer and pictures that can relate to their lives and their friends. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? When making this product I used Microsoft publisher, I have used it before and think it gives me an advantage rather than using word. This is because I can put things where I want on the page and the layout of the magazine, I can also use different fonts and place the pictures where I want to put them which are why I used publisher over word.
