Both our tasks began with a rule of thirds shot, but ’Station 43’ had an undoubtedly
better establishing shot as the lines from the train tracks and the trains themselves
drag our eye into the the center of the image, making the viewer focus on the couple
walking down the station to the train. The thing that attracts me more to the
establishing shot from ‘Station 43’ is the fact that it doesn't’t look stylised like the shot
from ‘The Job’ looks.

Another shot we transferred from our preliminary task was the dark figure walking in
from behind the camera making the audience feel like they are following the suspect,
resulting in a match-on-action shot. This shot is very appealing to the viewer in the
thriller genre as it creates a mystery about the character, only viewing their back that
is mostly shadowed avoiding the personal features of the character, allowing the
audience to create their own image of the antagonist.

We also had a group shot in both ‘The Job’ and ‘Station 43’ but this shot in ‘Station
43’ was greatly improved over our preliminary task. In ’The Job’ the lighting of the
chapel was very poor, which is what we were aiming for, but Aaron (Al) was barely
visible in the shot therefore leading us the improve the exposure in post production
editing. The group shot in ‘Station 43’ was well shot, as the camera man was inside
filming us entering the train and the lighting outside was good to shoot, not creating
too much dark shadows inside the train.

This was another poor shot that we had improved in ‘Station 43’ where the exposure
was once again too high, reducing the amount of light entering the camera. We had
improved this by choosing a better time of day for this and shooting the scene with
natural light present in the scene.

Finally I think the credits/titles were done amazingly as it gave the film an
independent scent with the typewriter effect. I think adding a blackout with the title of
the opening was a good choice as it allowed the viewer to focus on the title and
nothing else, meaning the title will have something to do with the film.

Overall I think our group has come a long was from producing ’The Job’ to now
producing a good thriller opening from ‘Station 43’. Our editing skills as a group have
come a long way and have greatly improved especially with continuity editing where
you have to match each scene to flow with the next one. I also think that our choice of
shots was much better as well as with the choice of the light for our scenes. All of our
shots were well exposed in ‘Station 43’ and looking at the amount of time we had to
film before getting kicked out of the train station we were able to pull of a great piece
of work, but that also had to do with the fact that we had a lot more time to edit that
we had for ‘The Job’. I can also say it was a pleasure to work with such a well
organised group.
