Universal Studios would be the ideal institution to distribute the media group's thriller. As one of the largest American motion picture companies, Universal has a proven track record of commercial and critical success with large films. It is also well-known, which would provide great publicity. Additionally, Universal could help the group develop attractions about the thriller at their theme parks, expanding the film's audience. For these reasons, the group selected Universal Studios as their main distributor and producer.

2. What is an institution?
An institution is a company that disperses a
media product for audience consumption. The
institution would distribute their film either in
cinemas nationally, or if it’s a big ‘Oscar’ movie
then it may be distributed internationally. After
having been in the cinema for a few months,
usually it would be dispersed in to merchandise,
CD’s or DVD’s.

3. Different institutions we could have used in
our media production
Paramount Pictures is large and very popular film and television
production and distribution studio. Paramount Pictures has invested
in Dreamworks Animation as well as Marvel therefore distribute their
movies. We could have used this major institution to distribute our
thriller, although the majority of movies in which are dispersed are
more comedic/romantic/family rather than the thriller. For example,
Kung Fu Panda, No Strings Attached, Madagascar Ect.
Vertigo Films is a lot smaller than the previous institution you
just read about. It is a UK media company which creates and
distribute commercially driven and independent cinema.
Vertigo’s first production and distribution focus was on the
Untouched ‘lads’ market and so Vertigo Films distribute the movie “The Football Factory” and it
became one of the most successful British Independent films when it was released on
DVD in 2004. However, now Vertigo Films have introduced all the popular genres such as, family
films, dance, action, comedy, crime and horror Ect. This institution would be perfect to
distribute
our thriller although due to the fact that it is quite a small institution our movie would not be
dispersed internationally, only in the local cinema. Also, we intend to develop our movie into

4. Orion Pictures Corporation, was formed as a joint venture
between Warner Brothers, although it was never a large
motion picture producer. Orion Pictures is most famous for
winning Academy Awards for best pictures;
Amadeus, Platoon, Dance with Wolves and The Silence of the
Lambs. Our media production was initially inspired by the
movie The Silence of the Lambs thus we thought it was
inevitable not to use this institution. Although, in the end we
discovered a more interesting a unique institution.
Warner Brother Pictures, is an entertainment company and
a global leader in the creation, production, distribution,
licensing and marketing of all forms of entertainment. This
giant institution produces and distributes a wide-ranging
slate of 18-22 movies in a year. Huge, popular movies such
as Batman, The Lord of The Rings and Harry Potter.
Also, famous for the distribution of the horror film
“Orphan”. This was a main choice to distribute our media
production, although we thought that we could use Dark
Castle Entertainment, owned by Warner Brothers.

5. Dark Castle Entertainment
Dark Castle Entertainment affiliated with Warner Brothers. The word
castle from the logo, comes from William Castle, a horror filmmaker
during the 1900’s. Films by Dark Castle Entertainment are House on
Haunted Hill, Ghost Ship, Gothika, The Reaping, as well as Orphan.

Our group thought long
and hard on whether to
go with this institution
or Orion Pictures. In the
end we went with this as
we felt we wanted to incorporate a feeling of having
media institution Warner Brothers, therefore by
having Dark Castle Entertainment we could.
Additionally, we thought that this logo would look
more affluent in our thriller in comparison to Orion
Pictures.

6. Universal Studios
Universal Studios is one of the largest American
motion picture company and is a subsidiary of NBC
Universal. Three of Universal studio’s films Jaws, E.T
The Extra-Terrestrial and Jurassic Park, all achieved
box office records, each becoming the highest-
grossing film made at the time.
We picked Universal Studios as our main distributer and producer for out media production
for the following reasons. Firstly, Universal is a popular and well known institution thus
would be great publicity and give our movie a substantial rating. Also, Universal has there
own theme parks, Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. This means that after our movie
has been distributed internationally all over the world, we intend to pitch to the theme park
a rollercoaster or a simulator about ‘Bluebell Cottage’ (title of our thriller). I had a thought
of a simulator of a journey through the antagonists house in to his lair, it would be very
spectacular. We would also hope that, our film would be released on to DVD within a few
months and shown on SKY Movies. Finally, we would love to see our film eventually shown
in 3D due to technological advances in today's society.
