In what ways does you media
product use, develop or challenge
conventions of real media
products?
Below are some of the forms of Psychological
Thrillers:
 Deconstructive Music
 Close Ups
 Fast Pace Editing
 POV
 Below are some conventions in Psychological
Thrillers:
 Setting
 Flashbacks
 Implicit Narrative
FORMS
 One form we used in our opening sequence
was close ups, used to show characters facial
expressions. For example, the confused faces
of the victims when they have seen the
character OJO. This is similar to the film
SAW - which shows close up of the victims.
FORM
 Another form used in our opening sequence, is
Fast Pace Editing. This is commonly used in
psychological thrillers, this builds tension and
intrigues the audience. This is used at the end of
our Opening Sequence as Victim 1 is tied up. As the
pace fastens, so does the music. The pair are
parallel.
CONVENTION
 Setting is a convention which we used.
The locations, such as the alley way is a
typical place that is included with in
psychological thrillers, this is due to
them being dark, lonely, mysterious
places.
CONEVENTION
 Another convention we used was implicit
narrative. This is common with in
psychological thrillers as they want to create
enigmas. An enigma code which we used
was when victim 2 picks up the sketch book,
leaving the audience not know what happens
next.
CONVENTION
 Flashbacks are also a convention that is
used. As all that is going on is not in present
day. This is clearly demonstrated when there
are insert shots of a victim being tied up.
The alley way and park scenes are from the
past.
FORM
 POINT OF VIEW was used when OJO walks
past victim 1. This shows victim 1's facial
expression, which is similar to audience
reactions as they want to know why OJO is
like that also.
CHALLENGED
 In our opening sequence we challenged
the nature of the character which has
psychological issue. The character OJO
is not the typical villain, who remains
inside, secluded from society. As this
character is outside a lot, in order to get
victims.
CHALLENGED
 Our media product also challenges the age
and gender of the typical villainous
character. Instead of having a character who
is male, we wanted to have a young female
character. This is as psychological issues can
impact anyone.
