- Which led us to the following framework: we aim our actions to have significant positive change on a society, the economy, and make our network more innovative and able to meet the challenges of the digital future.
- As a ginny pig we looked an already well established project, Europeana 1914-1918. We always received positive reactions about it and as it is nearly 5 years old, it has an established user base and a community including 5.000 people on our mailing list that we could tap into.
- We wanted to investigate two questions: can we establish the impact of the project and show the results in a meaningful way, and at the same time test wether we can use this more broadly as a tool in our sector.
- The cornerstone of the assessment framework is the concept of looking at impact from a variety of perspectives we call lenses, each giving a different perspective on what impact our project has.
- During a 7 week period we undertook a large online survey and interviewed people on location at collection days in Poznan and Prague.
- We analysed the data (source data available), developed a narrative that balanced what we saw in the data with what we heard from the people we interviewed.
- This resulted in a case study and a short film that I invite you to read and watch. *raise your hand if you have seen the film I am not going to show you the whole film as I think you can best do that by yourself. But I am going to show you some of my favourite sections.
- What do we expect the community lense to reveal to us? We want to use the community lense to demonstrate that people feel better connected to their community, the subject and the digital resources. That people value this connection, and have been positively influenced by it.
- We wanted to find a way to make our impact ‘stick’ so we looked for a way to combine the human side and the data in a useful way. I’d like to show you a couple of my favourite sections.

- We want to use the Legacy lense to focus on collecting data that shows us that people exchange digital resources, that they derive a benefit from inheriting and bequesting, and that they understand there is a benefit to be gained by themselves and by others by doing it.

- We want to use the Education lense to reveal that an increased opportunity for both formal and informal learning has been enabled, and that benefits have been gained from this.
- We want to use the Existence lense to reveal evidence of how important and how valuable people find the conceptual value of the existence of a digital resource or service. The value of prestige they feel themselves and those inside or outside of their community, independent of them using or knowing about it.
