EUDAT started in 2011 to provide common data management services through a federation of compute and data centers to address the increasing data volumes and costs of isolated solutions. It is funded by the European Commission and involves partnerships between service providers and research communities. The services cover the full data lifecycle through reuse of existing technologies with a goal of ensuring interoperability, extensibility, and stability of the collaborative data infrastructure.

8. Vision for the EUDAT CDI collaborations
For the RDM landscape, a strong organisational separation between service
providers and consumers interests does not work, we rather should work towards
a ‘cooperative’
To be a service provider inclusive of communities; not just as advisers, but as
members with matching influence
To build on results from (cross-)community discussion processes as RDA or for
instance from ESFRI cluster projects
EUDAT services need to implement broadly supported results: best practices,
standard recommendations, …
To contribute to those processes
To make use of existing knowledge infrastructures as LIBRARIES
EUDAT services should be part of librarian’s toolkits and the RDM
Librarians are well positioned for outreach to individual researchers and
smaller projects
