1. The document is an assignment on the eucalyptus tree submitted by Muhammad Tahir for a Pakistan geography course.
2. Eucalyptus is a fast-growing evergreen tree native to Australia that provides wood, gum, and oil used in medicines. It has the ability to grow quickly, usually has a single stem, and rarely grows taller than 33 feet.
3. While there are about 700 eucalyptus species in Australia, only five were introduced to Pakistan in the 1980s. However, eucalyptus consumes more water than the arid environment can replenish, threatening water resources and ecosystem balance.

*Eucalyptus has ability to grow quickly
*Trees usually have a single main stem and rarely taller
than 33 feet
*Nearly all eucalyptus are evergreen, but some tropical
species lose their leaves at the end of the dry season
Species Of Eucalyptus:
In Australia there are about 700 species of
eucalyptus but in Pakistan only five species were
introduced
Eucalyptus Tree In Pakistan
Eucalyptus tree was first planted in Pakistan in the
1980s under the project of Pakistan Forest
Institute sponsored by United States Agency for
International Development. It is not native to
Pakistan's environment, so it has become a threat
to the ecosystem and causing various
hydro-ecological imbalances of an ecosystem.
Eucalyptus tree consumes three times more water
in arid and semi-arid environments, because of
vapor pressure deficit. About 80% of Pakistan's
area is present in the semi-arid and arid climate.
Pakistan is facing a serious water shortage and
rapid groundwater level depletion in many parts
of the country. It is believed that species of

than water recharge
Advantages Of Eucalyptus
● They’re very drought tolerant (they aren’t
easily killed by drought once they’re
established).
● They don’t lose their leaves in the autumn, so
they provide shade and attractive foliage all
year.
● They don’t have many diseases or insect pests
that attack them.
● They grow comparatively fast.
● They don’t require a lot of care once they’re
established.
Disadvantages Of
Eucalyptus
● Its root system absorbs a lot of water from
soil. Thus, the plant dehydrats the
surroundings.
● They shed leaves all year, which makes them
messy.
● They grow very tall, making them unsuitable
for small yards or places where there are
overhead electrical wires
● Its leaves release a harmful chemical which
inhibits the growth of underground vegetation
5. 5
● It compacts the plantation of those areas
where the annual precipitation is less than
400mm
● It compact and pure plantation and do affect
biodiversity
Conclusion:
Eucalyptus should not be planted in natural forest
and if planted its composition should not five
