Following ethical marketing
practices is important in
today’s world.
However, not all companies feel
a prick in their conscience for
going against these
responsibilities.
Some of the important ethical marketing issues today include:
ØImpact on the environment
ØChild labor practices
ØFalse advertising
ØMisuse of company funds & resources
Environmental Impact
Recycling
Using eco-friendly
processes
Reducing waste
Greenwashing
Child Labor Practices
Some companies hide the
fact that they use child labor
to produce some of their
products.
False Advertising
False advertising is when a
company misrepresents and
misleads the consumer
about their product.
Misusing Company Funds & Resources
Company executives might
secretly be funneling
company resources or
money into unethical or
even illegal channels.
Some companies try to “atone” for any
number of unethical pursuits by
practicing Corporate Social Responsibility,
which is engaging in some ethical
activities to make up for unethical parts
for the sake of a positive image.
Conclusion
When companies manipulate the public into believing they follow standard ethical guidelines but instead
violate ethical principles, it does more harm than good in the long run. Consumers can do their part by
researching companies and supporting those who lift themselves to a higher standard. Businesses should
thoroughly evaluate the long-term effects of their practices and determine the best path to follow from a
combined ethics, financial, business, and marketing perspective.
