This document discusses the history and issues surrounding censorship of young adult literature. It provides an overview of 12 societal changes that have contributed to increased censorship efforts. Examples of commonly censored books in the American South are mentioned. The document also examines the differences between censorship and selective collection practices. Several studies and articles about self-censorship among school librarians and approaches to addressing censorship problems are summarized as well. The conclusion reiterates that no book is safe from censorship attempts in today's climate.
