This document provides an overview of common home network layouts, including wireless, wired and hybrid configurations. It contains diagrams and descriptions of six typical designs: a wireless network with a Wi-Fi router; a wired network with an Ethernet router; a hybrid network with a wired router and wireless access point; a wired-only network with direct connections; a wireless ad-hoc network; and wired networks with Ethernet hubs/switches or powerline adapters. Each network diagram is accompanied by pros and cons of that particular layout and setup tips.
