This document outlines the key information for a university course on managing and developing learning strategies, including:
1) The four learning outcomes that students will achieve in the course which relate to designing learning needs analyses, identifying effective learning strategies, applying instructional strategies, and evaluating learning strategies.
2) The three learning modules that make up the course content: planning learning programs, developing and managing learning strategies, and developing effective instruction.
3) The four assessment tasks for the course: a two-part report on conducting a learning needs analysis, a portfolio on learning strategies, developing and delivering a learning session based on the analysis, and posting responses online.

Design, conduct, analyse and evaluate a learning needs analysis, with
consideration of ethical issues, the purpose of the learning needs analysis and
the value of this tool for the learner;
Identify a range of effective learning strategies that reflect an understanding of
context and desired outcomes;
Apply effective instructional strategies to a planned learning session, based on
the learning needs analysis and a knowledge of a wide variety of learning
strategies; and
Evaluate the contribution of different learning strategies and reflect on the
ways to improve performance and facilitate on-going professional
development

Due Monday 14th September
Weighting 30% of semester total
Length 1600 – 2000 words
Description:
Using the template provided in the Assessment Folder in MyLO, create a portfolio
of ten different learning strategies. For each strategy:
Suggest a suitable scenario for the strategy
Explain briefly the potential value of each learning strategy and how it
enhances learning.
Identify any likely issues that could influence the effectiveness of the learning
strategy and offer tips on how to manage the strategy most effectively

Assessment 3: Project: Develop and deliver a
learning session
Due Monday 12th October
Weighting 30% of semester total
Length 1600-2000 words
Description:
Based on the findings of your Learning Needs Analysis (Assignment 1), design a
short (1-2 hours) learning session. Deliver your session and critique your
teaching.
This assignment consists of a number of steps:
From your LNA, select one of the identified learning needs and design a
learning plan for a short learning session (1-2 hours)
Deliver the session
Seek feedback from your learner/s in relation to the learning strategies and
your facilitation style in the session
Write a critical reflection of your session, referring to your student’s feedback
and literature to assist your critical reflection
Identify what sources could enable further professional development in your
teaching and facilitation skills

Assessment 4: MyLO Postings
Due Friday, 16th October
Weighting 10% of the semester total
Length 800-1000 words (guide only)
Submit a portfolio of your best posts between July 13th and October 9th. Choose
between six and eight posts, including at least one original posting and one
response to another student’s posting from EACH module in this Unit.
Please ensure that your document shows the date on which each post was made.
Hint: You can identify all your own posts in MyLO by clicking on ‘All my posts’ on
the discussion page. Then you can copy and paste this into a Word document
and edit as you wish.
