In females, this test is done to diagnose the cause of:
● Hypogonadism
● Oligomenorrhea and irregular menstruation
● Early and delayed puberty
● Infertility
In males, this test helps to diagnose the cause of enlarged
breasts (gynaecomastia) and delayed puberty

blood sample
● A syringe attached to a
fine needle is used to
withdraw blood from a
vein of your arm
High levels of Estradiol are seen in case of
● Early puberty in girls
● Ovarian Tumors in females
● Enlarged breasts, delayed puberty and testicular tumors in
males
● Hyperthyroidism, liver cirrhosis and tumors of adrenal
glands in males and females
Low levels of Estradiol are seen in case of
● Menopause
● Premature menopause (ovarian failure)
● Hypopituitarism
● Hypogonadism
● Conditions in which female sexual characteristics are
underdeveloped like Turner’s Syndrome
