JESS3’s shares our thoughts on the key elements and mechanisms of visual storytelling.
At the very heart of it all: storytelling is no longer just for Hollywood. In the advertising and business world, it’s not just about a brand telling its history or its story. Gone are the days of branded marketing: storytelling is now about telling the definitive narrative about an issue or topic in a wholistic way -- the state of, the evolution of, the future of. And it is in this context that brands will most successfully communicate with their consumer.

Creating and Sustaining an Auditing Framework - Kayla Kurtz at SES ChicagoHanapin Marketing
Remember the days when all your keywords were in one campaign and maybe a handful of ad groups, and your biggest PPC pain was your daily budget? This may be a bit too nostalgic, but all the changes in paid search advertising over the last couple years, it almost feels that drastic. Establishing an ongoing PPC auditing plan is like creating an exercise regimen: you have to create a plan and stick to it. During this session, attendees learned how to create a weekly and monthly auditing plan, prioritize elements of those audits, which areas of an account need to be continuously audited versus those that don't, and finally whether accounts can ever be mature enough to no longer require auditing.

In this talk, we'll try to understand how a search engine works and how some aspects of web performance affect the online presence of a website.
Lessons in Link-Building and Good SEO - Christoph Cemper, Link Research ToolsPerformanceIN
Just one Google penalty is enough to destroy years of progress in building a website and making sure it stays in line with the search engine’s rather unforgiving algorithm. Negative SEO is not something agencies, affiliates or any website manager can afford to entertain, but help is on the way.

Improving Content Quality at Scale and with AI - Pubcon Austin 2023Jake Bohall
In this session, we discuss a site with large scale content quality issues caused by UGC and the process for developing and implementing a solution. Facing the need to review over 5 million pages, we had to develop a process that didn't require manual review, break site functionality that relied on these pages, or sacrifice valuable traffic. This session walks you through the creative brainstorming, and plenty of trial & error, that ultimately led to a novel and scalable fix that could be quickly implemented. We then look at how AI is changing the way we approach these types of problems.

Introduction to Google Penalties, Link Audit and Link Risk ManagementChristoph C. Cemper
In April 2012, Google launched their first Penguin algorithm update. This was the end for old spammy link building tactics. Learn with Christoph C. Cemper how to recover and protect your internet assets from bad and negative SEO.
Introduction to Google Penalties, Link Audit and Link Risk Managementsemrush_webinars
Introduction to Google Penalties
Google has been always fighting against the manipulation of their algorithm. They tried to discard spammy links by not passing PageRank through links that seemed fake or unnatural. This solution didn´t work very well, because for many webmasters it was just a sign to create more backlinks (some of them will work eventually). Finally, in April 2012, Google launched their first Penguin algorithm update. This was the end for old spammy link building tactics. Hundreds of thousands of sites were penalized. Many internet businesses vanished.
Link Audit for small businesses and agencies likewise using Link Detox
Audit your links and get rid of all risky and fake ones. Although Link Audit sounds like a very easy job, in reality it is very hard and time-consuming. Because of that, just a few months after Google´s first Penguin update, LinkResearchTools launched Link Detox. It was the first tool on the market designed to help you recover and protect your website from Google penalties.
The concept of Link Risk Management and how to do it
The concept of Link Risk Management includes site recovery (if necessary), continuous site protection through new backlinks monitoring and safe link building. With proper link monitoring, you will protect your site, not just against spammy backlinks but also and against negative SEO attacks.

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

PHP Frameworks: I want to break free (IPC Berlin 2024)Ralf Eggert
In this presentation, we examine the challenges and limitations of relying too heavily on PHP frameworks in web development. We discuss the history of PHP and its frameworks to understand how this dependence has evolved. The focus will be on providing concrete tips and strategies to reduce reliance on these frameworks, based on real-world examples and practical considerations. The goal is to equip developers with the skills and knowledge to create more flexible and future-proof web applications. We'll explore the importance of maintaining autonomy in a rapidly changing tech landscape and how to make informed decisions in PHP development.
This talk is aimed at encouraging a more independent approach to using PHP frameworks, moving towards a more flexible and future-proof approach to PHP development.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

intimidating – current audit three passeschaoticmy goal: reduce the chaos by providing a framework
I’m going to talk about some of the more expensive mistakes we see to provide some context – and hit on solutions.I’m not going to go into deep detail on the solutions b/c you’ll get that in the document I’ll share at the end.
if your site has multiple subdomains (www, blog, reviews, etc.) AND you use GA, there’s a filter that’s CRITICAL.if you don’t include this filter the traffic for all your subdomains will be blended into blob.biggest victim: homepage of your main domain b/c each subdomain’s homepage is going to be dumped into the homepage, sabotaging all your homepage metrics.you also won’t be able to segment by subdomain.
