2. COVER
Symbolic -
Natural lighting and blues and yellows clearly show the sea side. The sea side in
Essex is synonymous with the elder generation of Essex whereas the inner town is
synonymous with the younger generation. The stone beach and little wooden boat
are also key signifiers of English beaches and therefore of Essex.
Written -
There isn't a lot of writing on this cover page so it is more focused on the
image. The writing is all headers and there's very little information. This means
that its hard to distinguish emphasis although “Clacton on sea’ and ‘literary’
are obvious and attracting to the elder Essex generation.
Technical -
Eye-level image splits the page in half, saying the boat on one half and the
scenery on the other makes it neat and the message is clear.
3. CONTENT
S
Symbolic –
The images used on these pages
are small and extremely symbolic
of the articles. They are often of a
person from Essex or a specific
close up of an object. Having
pictures and articles about people
from Essex are key signifiers of
Essex.
Written -
All the writing is very small and the
font is simple but there is a lot of
it. Its across three pages so there's
a lot of information and some of
the headlines are highlighted and
the key words are in a different
colour emphasising them.
Technical -
Its hard to see the technicalities of the
images as they are small but they are all
close ups/mid shots and are cropped to
only show the main focus.
4. DOUBLE PAGE
SPREAD
Symbolic –
The background on this is a
traditional country style pattern/cloth
so is a key signifier of the older
generation Essex. The country style
houses are also representative of
Essex.
Written -
All the writing is small
and neat. However
most of the articles in
this magazine are
estates. The only
‘fancy’ writing is the
header on the left
picture.
Technical -
Again, the images are too small to see the technicalities however
they are clearly long shots as they are houses and the image needs to
show the entire house.
