Audre Lorde s The New Misandry
When I first started to read The New Misandry I thought I was not going to like it.
I was immediately turned off by the use of this word because it has such a powerful
social stigma. As I read more closely I appreciated her message a great deal more. I
particularly liked the section where she argues that ...hurting people makes them
angry, anger turns to hatewhen the anger is chronic and accompanied by
helplessness, and although you can bully or shame people into not showing their
anger, the only way to stop the anger is to stop the hurt (Russ 169). This reminded
me of The Uses of Anger by Audre Lorde. Tactically, I do think angry can be tool
for change, but I disagree that Misandry could be a productive label to use. I can
see why some people would hate men, but that does not mean I think it is healthy
the person harboring all of that hatred. I want to turn to the idea of hating
Patriarchy, but I m not sure if I am simply falling into the trap that Russ talks about

I have never openly called someone a misogynist, but I have been called a
misandrist or Femin Nazi before simply for identifying as a feminist. The word
misogyny calls up images of angry butch man hates, but I don t think misogynist
has equivalent imagery. Is this because misogyny is so prevalent that it has
become normalized? Or perhaps it is because people are socially conditioned
ignore the signs of misogyny in everyday life and any non normative misandrist
behavior challenges this. It almost seems like the act of calling out misogyny
makes women and queer individuals automatically at risk for being called a
misandrist. This is very backward. Yet even as I see the hypocrisy here, I do not wish

The Roles of HMGA Proteins Essay
Despite a wealth of biochemical in vitro data on the HMGA proteins of various
organisms, their biological role in chromatin is still not convincingly clarified.
Current evidence suggests that HMG proteins serve a global role in chromatin by
conferring a more open configuration to chromatin regions that are more accessible to
transcriptional regulators (Bianchi and Agresti, 2005; Catez et al., 2004). In addition,
there is massive evidence that HMGA proteins act as architectural factors that
facilitate assembly of functional transcription factor complexes (enhanceosomes) at
DNAtarget sites by various mechanisms. Several studies analysing altered expression
levels of HMGA genes in animals have demonstrated that the chromosomal HMGA...
Therefore, it is the overall aim of my PhD project to gain insight into the in planta
functions of HMGA proteins. The project will be performed in the laboratory of
Prof. Dr. K.D. Grasser (Regensburg University), whose research group is
specialised on studying plant chromosomal proteins. Towards the goal of
elucidating HMGA function, a variety of experimental approaches will be
employed using as central tool Arabidopsis plants with altered levels of HMGA
protein that will be analysed in comparison to wild type control plants. The
available data suggest that HMGA proteins as cofactors assist the proper
transcription of putative target genes (Grasser, 2003; Klosterman and Hadwiger,
2002). To evaluate this assumption, (1) we intend to examine plants that have
reduced amounts of HMGA (T DNA insertion mutants, amiRNA plants) as well as
plants that have elevated levels of HMGA (overexpression plants). Using these
plants we will analyse (2) the consequences of altered HMGA levels on plant
phenotype and transcriptome. In addition, (3) the spatial and temporal expression
pattern of HMGA is examined as well as (4) protein interactions of HMGA.

(URS) in distal ureteral calculi comparing its results with elective URS.

Complete stone retrieval without fragmentation was achieved in 83.3% in group I and
82.2% in group II. Stone migrated proximally in 4 patients in group I and only 2
patients in group II in whom procedure ended by ureteral stenting.
Mucosal injury was observed in 3 patients and 4 in groups I and II respectively.
Thirty seven patients from group I reported that they were satisfied by the procedure
and its outcome compared to 78 patients in group II.
Conclusion: Emergency ureteroscopic intervention under intravenous sedation is
feasible, safe and effective when compared to elective ureteroscopy for small lower
ureteral stones.

My Trip To Galapagos Island Essay
I planned for my trip to the Galapagos Islands for about a year and a half. It was my
chance for a trip outside of the United States and a chance for me to solidify what I
wanted for my future. It was a ten day trip with four days in the capital of Ecuador,
Quito, and six days on the islands. I went with a group of kids from my high
school, another high school in Massachusetts, and a group from Georgia. There
were no parents on the trip, only a couple of chaperones from the schools, and very
little access to the internet or the outside world. I was so excited to experience the
anomaly that Charles Darwinhad discovered on these islands. I would be forced to
interact with people I had never met before for twenty four hours a day who may
or may not have the same interests as me. I was not friends with anyone on this
trip and talking to new people had always terrified me if someone I knew did not
involve me in a conversation. I would be rooming with people who knew nothing
about me and yet they became people that I now cherish memories with. The
