Comparing Ludwig Beethoven And Beethoven s Appassionata...
Both Ludwig Beethoven s Appassionata piano sonata and Franz Liszt s B minor sonata are
recognized as some of the best compositions of the nineteenth century. The complexity and
creativity of these pieces are astonishing. Considering both pieces are sonatas they have some
similar aspects, but they are also very different which can be credited to the brilliant minds who
composed them. These pieces are both masterpieces of their time which is what has made them
stand out amongst the many songs composed during the nineteenth century. In this paper I will
touch on the significant attributes of these pieces and compare their similarities and differences.
The first piece I will introduce is Appassionata by Ludwig Van Beethoven. Appassionata was
composed during a time of many changes in both Beethoven s life and the musical world around
him. By 1800 Beethoven s hearing had deteriorated so much that he was almost completely deaf.
Although this was not something easy to cope with, Beethoven did not let this obstacle hinder his
career. In fact, in many aspects his works flourished, and a new wave of creativity sparked in his
career. Beethoven was not the first to compose a multimovement piece for the piano, but he was the
first to stray from the former expectations of piano sonatas. Beethoven s new sonatas were longer
than most and incorporated dramatic elements. With just one instrument Beethoven was able to
convey so much power and emotion, something that no one at the time

Compages And Disadvantages Of Costing Systems
Costing Systems
The costing systems aid companies in determining the cost of a product in relation to the revenue
the product generates. The costing systems commonly used in businesses include activity based
costing and traditional costing. Traditional costing system assigns the manufacturing overhead
based on the capacity of a cost driver. For example, the amount of direct working hours required to
produce a particular item. Cost drivers are factors that cause cost to incur, like machine hours, direct
material hours, and direct labor hours. Activity based costing system allocates cost of manufacturing
a product in accordance to the activities required to produce the particular item. It s therefore
essential for managers to understand the merits ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, in a banking context, the activity of a bank teller is ascribed to each item through
measuring how long each item transaction (cost driver) takes at a counter and them measuring the
number of each form of transaction. In a machinery context for the activity of running machinery,
the driver is often the machine operating hours i.e. machine operating hour s maintenance, power
cost in the running of machinery and labor cost activities.
ABC systems use activities as the main cost objects. The system works on the notion that activities
cause costs, and cost objects create demand for activities. The system is flexible as it relates costs
to customers, management responsibility and processor and not just the products. ABC system
applies activities as the basic cost objects while using the costs of such activities as the building
blocks for compiling costs of other cost objects.
The application of activity based costing system embraces advanced planning, control and
monitoring system that encompasses: activity based costing; activity based budgeting; activity
reporting; activity based cost management; performance benchmarking and measurement; customer

The Tea Of Tea Master
When I first entered the tea house, the aroma of many tea leaves struck me in my nose. I was
deeply welcomed by many people. The atmosphere was very lively. The first thing I realized when
sitting down at the tea gathering table was the amount of utensils there were to make a cup of tea
and the traditional clothing TeaMaster Michael Fung was wearing. This made me feel like Tea
Master Michael Fung was deeply passionate and interested in the art of tea. As more students
came, I realized that it was very cramped. It reminded me of a quote when Dr. Jack said that it
was best to drink tea with only two people and the more we have the more it feels uncomfortable.
During the beginning of the ceremony, Tea Master Michael Fung, owner of The Best Tea House
Co. , took many aged Pu er tea cakes for us to experiment and observe. Many students and I, saw
many differences such as how it smells and how the colour changes over time. Tea Master
Michael Fung also talked about the history and the origins of tea and why it is drank and how it
is developed. He also mentioned that the waxing paper determines the tea s quality. Pu er tea is an
aged dark tea produced in Yunnanprovince of China under the process of fermentation and Tea
Master Michael Fung showed us the difference between Sheng and Shu Cha and its health
benefits. Since Pu er tea can be stored to mature, I observed that there was a year and the region of
production on each packaging. There was also many shapes such as a

Pancakes Vs Waffles Research Paper
In a battle of epic proportions, who will win? Waffles or Pancakes? While both are widely eaten
and made, pancakes, with their easy assembly, creativity, and versatility, are the superior breakfast
food. Both pancakes and waffles are popular breakfast foods that everyone has eaten. I too have
had, and made, many pancakes and waffles in my lifetime. Pancakes are far easier to assemble.
They only require premade pancakemix, a stove, and a pan. Everyone has these things! A waffle
iron, however, is much harder to come by. Waffle irons also constrict creativity. All of your
waffles are going to be in whatever standard square or circular shape your waffle iron is. Pancakes
can be made into any shape! People even endeavor into pancake art, making

Problems Associated with Celiac Disease and Lactose...
Introduction: Enzymes are essential to the proper functioning of the human body. Enzymes are
catalysts, which cause reactions to occur. The two primary classes of enzymes for maintaining life
functions are digestive and metabolic enzymes. The primary digestive enzymes are classified as
proteases, amylases and lipases. These enzymes can help breakdown food molecules. Metabolic
enzymes are responsible for the repairing and structuring of every cell. Inadequate production of
digestive enzymes can have a negative impact on the breakdown of food into the various nutrients
our bodies require.

The amount of small intestine damaged due to a loss of villi determines the severity of
symptoms due to the diseases. Severe signs and symptoms of malabsorption are evident in people
whose small intestine is affected by a loss of villi (Marks). Therefore this explains the various
problems a person with celiac disease encounters. 1
Lactose intolerance occurs when the body has a hard time digesting dairy products. Lactose is a
milk sugar and is broken down by enzymes in the intestinal track, allowing the enzymes to be used
as an energy source. Lactase is an enzyme which breaks down lactose. Lactose intolerance occurs
when the intestine does not contain lactase (Jackson). Low lactose activity in the small intestine,
allows undigested lactose to pass into the colon, where the bacteria are able to convert the sugar
into hydrogen gas and organic acids. This causes symptoms such as bloating and cramping (
Lactose Intolerance ). The two causes of lactose intolerance are primary lactase deficiency and
secondary lactase deficiency. In primary lactase deficiency the level of lactase enzyme falls as a
person gets older. This does not allow the person to tolerate the amount of lactose that they were
used to. This affects around 70 percent of the population. Secondary lactase deficiency is a
temporary condition in which the level of lactase drops due to a problem in a person s digestive

The Role Of The Nurse Leader
The Role of the Nurse Leader in Quality
Preventable hospital readmissions remain among one of the many serious quality issues plaguing
the healthcare industry today. Readmissions can carry fiscal implications, impact patient safety, and
outcomes of care (Helm, Alaeddini, Bretthauer, Skolarus, 2016). The cost of unplanned hospital
readmissions is estimated to be upwards of $15 billion dollars annually of which $12 billion has
been associated with preventable admissions (Helm et al., 2016). It is highly recognized that as
many as 20% of Medicare beneficiaries are presently being readmitted within 30 days of discharge
(Hunter, Nelson, Birmingham, 2013; Verhaegh, Mac Neil Vroomen, Eslami, Geerlings, de Rooij, et

Posing the question: what else can be done to keep patients from returning to the ED for care and
consequently being readmitted? (K. Larry, personal communication, March 15, 2017).
How Were Readmissions Measured
Ms. Larry stated that reviewers measured the total number of patients presenting to the ED within
30 days of a hospitalization (personal communication, March 15, 2017). Additionally, she said they
compared the patient s ED diagnosis to the previous admission and discharge diagnosis (K. Larry,
personal communication, March 15, 2017). Finally, reviewers correlated readmissions with the
following information: site of hospitalization, type of admission (i.e. surgical, medical, or
behavioral health), the complexity of the hospitalization, and the age of the patient (K. Larry,
personal communication, March 15, 2017). After obtaining the necessary data, Ms. Larry stated
that reviewers worked on determining the frequency of post discharge ED visits resulting in
readmissions and the factors associated with each ED visit (personal communication, March 15,
2017).
MTF Action Plan
With a goal to obtain a 33% reduction in ED utilization by recently discharged patients, the MTF
devised the following strategies to facilitate care transitions and improve communication from
inpatient units to clinics and between clinics and patients (K. Larry, personal communication,
March 15, 2017). Collectively the interventions were recognized locally as Project Red Light

Essay On Writing Experience
I either go to television or turn on the radio in my car (Whitefield 2011). Before I started this
class, that is what I thought about when someone asked me Do you keep up with the news? .
Most people do not get the opportunity to learn about what is going on around the world in their
everyday lives and how they can help out. I feel that being in this class I got the chance to learn
more about life and what is happening everywhere, not just insignificant matters such as who Kim
Kardashian is now dating or why Kylie Jenner got more lip injections, I am learning about the
important things. I am getting the chance to learn about how I can participate in the world to make
big changes because of reading The New York Times

the news stories was great. Not only did I get the chance to learn more about my surrounding
and what is happening in different places such as Russia, but I also had the chance to connect
the stories to my own life. I was able to learn better ways to write, such as taking things head on,
writing how you truly feel, and writing what you believe is right. We see a lot of problems today.

The Sociological Explanations for Class Inequality Essay...
The Sociological Explanations for Class Inequality There is much debate in sociology about
whether class is still important. Many argue that class is no longer important as an individual s
identity and life chances are based more status and cultural factors such as lifestyle, values,
intelligence, education and the like, the post modernists state that class has ceased to be the prime
determinant of identity and suggest that societies are now organised around consumption rather
than production, consequently people now identify themselves in terms of what they consume
rather than in terms of social class position. Class identity has therefore fragmented into numerous

Davis and More state that this is fair as everyone finds their place in a society which offers
different levels of rewards, thus inequality is legitimate. They state that since there is value
consensus on the relative merit of certain occupations and the salaries they command, inequality
does not cause conflict, but is seen as legitimate by all and is an accepted part of society. Talcott
Parsons agreed with this and stated that inequality is inevitable, legitimate and functional for
everyone. The strength of this theory is that it allows inequality to be linked to talent which is
unequally distributed. However, this theory has many weaknesses; it assumes we all agree about
the relative merit of certain occupations, when in reality this is not true. It also assumes that there
are no structural barriers in society to those who have talent, for example, race or gender. Although
this meritocratic approach has been developed more recently by the new right , with sociologists
such as Saunders arguing that inequality is a necessary push for economic growth which in turn
increases living standards, it has also been criticised by those such as Will Hutton who argued that
inequality has led to poorer economic performance and not

Pride And Prejudice By Jane Darcy Essay
When pride encounters prejudice. The novel Pride and Prejudice revolve around two characters
Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy from different socioeconomic class and their impression
of each other. As the title indicates, one character is prideful and the other prejudice. As the
protagonist of the novel, Elizabeth overcomes her prejudice feelings in to find happiness. But the
path towards finding romantic happiness involved two phase in the novel: the first phase involved
Elizabeth finding Mr. Darcy to be abhorrent in the beginning and the second phase is involved her
overcoming her misconception of Mr. Darcy. The shift in Elizabeth perception of Mr. Darcy leads
to her falling in lovewith Mr. Darcy. The first impression is the hardest impression to overcome.
Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy did not have a very smooth first interaction. Because of his social status,
Mr. Darcy comes across as very pride during his first interaction with Elizabeth. Mr. Bingly (Mr.

Lotteries also tend to function as a tax on the poor. Studies show that it s the poorest Americans

compared to 42% in the top fifth. While the richest Americans gamble on the lottery only 10 times

The Use Of Electrical Probes On The Brain
The brain is one of the most complex organ in our bodies. To learn about the brain scientists use
electrical stimulation. Electrical stimulation is the use of electrical probes to determine functions of
the brain. Clinical observation of patients have also helped scientists learn more about the brain.
Case studies of different patients such as Phineas Gage have helped to learn about the different
functions of the brainand how they work together to perform complex activities. (Barron s AP
Psychology 6th Edition)
Different maps are taken of the brain in order to determine if there are any problems with the
brain. An electroencephalogram (EEG) is used an amplified read out of the brain waves. A
magnetic resonance imaging scan (MRI) gives a detailed picture of the brain s soft tissues. It
also shows the structure of the brain. A function magnetic resonance imaging scan or function
MRI (fMRI) shows the function of parts of the brain as well as the brain s structure. It also has
the ability to show when a person is lying. Scientists also use a neuroimaging technique called a
positron emission tomography scan (PET scan) to view the brain. (Barron s AP Psychology 6th

determining their influence on body dissatisfaction, dieting and anorexia nervosa (AN) disorder.
These unorthodox services have received outrage in recent New Zealand (NZ) news coverage
because they are seen to advocate engagement in eating disorder behaviour, and disengagement
from professional treatment (Hawkes, 2017). Anorexia nervosais listed in DSM 5 as a Feeding and
Eating Disorder alongside bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder (American Psychiatric
Association [APA], 2013). AN is characterised by symptoms that include dangerously low body
weight, intense fear of fat or weight gain, abnormal cognitions that lead to an over evaluation of
the importance of body weight, shape and size, indifference about the disorders seriousness
(APA, 2013). It is a multi determined psychiatric disorder with an interplay between
sociocultural, biological, physical and mental factors that make it extremely difficult to treat
successfully (Chang Bazarova, 2016; Boraska et al., 2014). AN affects approximately 3.7% of
NZ population, the average duration is five years, with the highest prevalent rate (10%) in teenage
females (M = 17 years). While predominantly a young white middle upper class female disorder,
recent research shows a significant increase in diagnosis of males,

Why Is Hannibal Lecter Considered A Villain
In every great novel or film there is an antagonist, and in some cases what people would consider
a villain. Every villain has different motives for what they do and different character traits. The
one thing in common with most villains is being an opposing force to a hero. In many cases, the
best villains are the most complex. One example of a complex villain from both a series of films
and novels is the characterHannibal Lecter. In the books you can see that Hannibal Lecter is a
villain with many positive traits that are perceived negative because of the way he uses them.
Some people may even say that towards the end of the series, Hannibal is more of an anti hero than
villain. Hannibal Lecter is the main character of the novels by Thomas... Show more content on

Hannibal is an extremely intelligent character. It s mentioned in the books and throughout the
films/TV series that Hannibal could go through tests that show intelligence scores with no
struggle at all and scored perfectly. Hannibal uses his intelligence to get himself out of situations
where he would be arrested, and uses his intelligence to manipulate people. In The Red Dragon,
the author states this, Lecter is so lucid, so perceptive; he s trained in psychiatry... and he s a
mass murderer. Despite being to intelligent and perceptive, having degrees in thing he is a mass
murderer. Hannibal is a cannibalistic serial killer, and how he manages it is because of his
intelligence. Hannibal s level of intelligence makes him interesting, but makes his own character
disinterested in others. Hannibal has used his intelligence to escape from prison, manipulate
people in authority, and lead a life of cannibalism behind closed doors for years with no one
noticing. He managed to live his life as a psychiatrist while secretly killing people and feeding
them to his associates for a good amount of time before being apprehended by Will Graham.
Hannibal is capable of reading people very easily, pin pointing their weaknesses and anything
important to know about them within one short glance. Overall, Hannibal is one of the most
intelligent villain characters there

Joseph McCarthy Essay
Joseph McCarthy Throughout the early 1950 s, the nation was deeply engrossed in fears of a
Communist takeover. At a time when America s fears were at their very height, Joseph
McCarthy, a Republican Senator from Wisconsin pushed America s fears to an extreme. As a
ploy to get himself re elected, and to make America hate Communism as much as he did, the
Senator devised a devious scheme. McCarthy, while giving a speech, held up a piece of paper and
exclaimed, I have here a list of 57 known Communists who are currently employed by the U.S.
State Department (Fried, 89). A few days later, McCarthy raised the number of people on the list
from 57 to 205. The reaction to McCarthy s announcement was absolute panic. Until that time, the

Everyone knew about it, but no one ever talked about it. The first knowledge many American s
had of Communism came from Winston Churchill s Iron Curtain Speech (Matusow, 45).
Churchill basically said in his speech that the Soviet Union was pushing forward a global
Communist takeover. And Churchill also said that he believed, We should not let such a force
loose on the planet (Matusow, 46). That was the first time many American eyes were opened to
Communism, and McCarthy made sure it was not the last. The entire chaos that Senator
McCarthy caused had become collectively known as The Red Scare (Feuerlicht, 34). McCarthy
used this entire Red Scare idea to boost his hopes for re election. But an elected official is
supposed to be a representative of the people. All McCarthy did was abuse his power and pull
the wool over the people s eyes. McCarthy did not work for the benefit of the people. He only
worked for the benefit of himself. Next, the people whose lives McCarthy destroyed must be
looked at. In the immediate aftermath of McCarthy s speech came many accusations. America
wanted the people that McCarthy said were on his list. But when asked for the list, McCarthy
said he lost it, and he could not remember which individuals were on the list. But he said he did
see some key Hollywood figures on it. That was when the focus shifted to all of Hollywood. If

Summary Of Bogalusa Heart Study
IV.From Bogalusa Heart Study, came about a research scientific study on physical activity and
dietary behaviors, conducted by Dr. Russell Jago, and colleagues. The research focused on energy
imbalance and examining relationships between the dietary and physical activity behaviors of
young adults. The claim is that obesity is due to an energy imbalance, in other words, more intake
in calories is increasing, but, the energy of burning them off isn t increasing trending along. The
reason behind the study is to collect enough information to have successful outcomes of obesity

Between 1988 1994 people who were in poverty had a higher rating for being obese or over

around the same, the increase for obesity went up for everyone of all incomes. It was then
between the years 2005 2008 that it became more alarming, being obese or overweight can
happen to anyone of any age. Genetic plays a role of people developing the overweight pattern
but, it is the food intake that triggers the gene. It s a nature and nurture that plays a role in the
increase of obesity. Sedentary jobs increased with less physical activity, and cheap calorie rich
foods, are some of the reasons for an increase in obesity (Chan, 2016). Also, many people in the
2000 s were unemployed causing them to eat cheaper unhealthy meal options. Transportation
became easier to adjust to vs walking to places. Technology also played a role, obesity and
overweight is due to a subpart from lack of exercise. Early 2000s new technology, video games,
and chat rooms were created, and this led to many people staying in to play, not going outside to
socialize or communicate because they had a screen and keyboards to do that for them. This

Verisimilitude In The Misanthrope
Ali Schonhoff
Theatre History I
Dave Pasto
14 October 2015
The Misanthrope Consideration
1.Verisimilitude is the appearance of truth. It can be broken down into three parts:
a.Probability: how likely is it that these events could actually happen? To keep the plots of
neoclassic plays probable, playwrights removed supernatural and fantasy characters, the chorus, and
any soliloquy or aside where a character would speak directly to the audience and not to another
character. In MoliГЁre s play The Misanthrope, this can be seen right off the bat as Alceste
informs the audience of his love for CГ©limГЁne by discussing it with Philinte who here serves as
a confidant for Alceste to avoid using a soliloquy.
b.Morality: Neoclassic plays were meant to instruct and delight. Comedies should ridicule ... Show

Place: there should only be one setting for the entire play. The Misanthrope takes place entirely in
and around CГ©limГЁne s house, keeping the set unified.
c.Action: there should only be one plot. Plays should not have subplots unless they can only be
resolved by the resolution of the main plot. All the little love stories and scuffles of The
Misanthrope lead back to Alceste trying to win over CГ©limГЁne somehow or another. Nothing in
the play exists separate from this.
4.Purity of Genre: there should not be any serious scenes in a comedy, and no comedic scenes in
a tragedy. Comedies should primarily focus on the middle and lower classes ridiculing their
follies. MoliГЁre mostly follows this rule, except for at the end of The Misanthrope: his play
ridicules folly and is unarguably funny. However, comedies are generally known for their happy
endings, and this play just... doesn t have one of those. Our main character ends the show with
his decision to be a hermit as he did not win over his love or his rebound girl. The woman who
should have ended the show as his lover is called out as a whore and turns down Alceste s offer to
love her anyway which leaves her ultimately unhappy as

Asphalt Tips
Asphalt is a relatively durable product, which is why it is commonly used on roadways and
driveways. However, without proper maintenance it can give way to cracks or holes.
Fortunately, it is fairly easy to fix these issues as long as you address them quickly. So if you are
interested in fixing a crack or hole in your asphalt, use these three tips to ensure you get good
results: 1. Clean Well Before you do anything, make sure you thoroughly clean the asphalt. Any
loose bits of dirt and debris could ruin your asphalt patch, so clean it very well. Use a broom and
sweep the entire area of the crack of hole. Be sure to sweep the surrounding area as well.
Additionally, you might want to hose down the area to ensure it is clean and free of dirt

Wage Led Growth Good For Credit Unions And The Macro Economy
Wage led growth good for credit unions and the macro economy
2016 opened with stock markets in turmoil, news on the slowing Chinese economy, and oil prices
falling below $30 a barrel. Credit unions have concerns on how these affects their operations.
Concerned investors overreacted to the news of a slower Chinese economy, which partly explains
the stock market turmoil in the U.S. and around the world. China s economy is not immune from
the business cycle. Its economy s growth rate eventually came down from the double digits to the
single digits as it undergoes structural changes. China is shifting from an export led to a domestic
consumption driven economy. Since 1976, the beginning of China s journey towards integration
into the global economy, annual GDP growth averaged 9.5%. Since 2012, growth has been below
average falling to 6.8% in the fourth quarter of 2015. While it can be argued that China s economic
slowdown has both direct and indirect effects on the U.S. economy through trade and financial
flows, a slowing Chinese economy has marginal effects on credit unions. Moreover, it is difficult to
aggregate the effects of China s economic slowdown in future U.S. economic growth.
Unlike banks, credit unions have limited exposure to the ever present daily gyrations in the stock
market. The stock market turmoil in January was not a viable indicator of a U.S. economic
slowdown. The stock rout was a result of investors reaction to further declines in oil prices, strength

Speech Reflection Essay
During speech class this semester, I gave several different types of speeches on several different
topics. During this semester, my ability to give speeches in front of an audience has improved
quite a bit, I hope. Going into the semester, I had a really hard time giving speeches to people, but
now that speechis almost over I feel like I am more capable of doing so. I think the thing I did best
during the semester was getting good information for each of my speeches. My favorite
assignment was most likely the impromptu speech. I really liked that one because we did not
have to prepare an outline or anything like that, we just got to go up there and speak. During this
semester, I learned a lot about how to give speeches such as the proper way to stand so I do not
rock, or how to use my hands to emphasize my points. In the future, I think that I will be able to
control my speed betterduring my speeches which will help the people I am presenting to
understand my message. I think the skills I have acquired during speech will help me for the
rest of my life. No matter what career I choose, I am sure that at some point I will have to present
to someone about something. The skills I learned in speech will also help me just communicate
with people in a one on one situation easier than I do now. I can use these skills throughout the
rest of high school and through my six years of college still to come because whenever I have to
present a project I will know how to effectively communicate my message to my audience.
Based off of all of my reflection sheets, video evaluations, and peer critiques I have improved
over the course of the semester. At the beginning of the semester I had a problem with speed and
using to many filler words. As the year progressed, my speed became more and more
controllable and I used less and less filler words. After my most recent speech, I m still not quite
at the level I want to be at, but I am far better than I was at the very beginning. I think just
speaking in front of people more than I am used to doing has helped me develop better speaking
skills and grow in my ability to effectively communicate with others. Throughout the semester I
learned a lot about speaking, performing, and

Persuasive Essay On Overfishing
Our great oceans whose biodiversity in unmatched, makes up over three fourths of our planet s
surface. The ocean is home to more than 20,000 different species of fish and over 2 million other
animal and plant species found in our oceans. Overfishing can be defined in a number of ways.
However, everything comes down to one simple point: Catching too much fishfor the system to

oceans. The earliest overfishing occurred in the early 1800s when humans, seeking blubber for

Doodle In The Scarlet Ibis
Most people would come to believe the fact that an ibis cannot relate to a human being, but that
can be proven wrong. Throughout the story, Doodle and the ibis were persistent, yet active, due
to the fact that they never gave up. In the story, The Scarlet Ibis, by James Hurth, Doodle is a boy
who has physical weaknesses, so it is difficult for him to do things that a normal child would be
able to do. Most ibisare able to fly, however, the scarlet ibisis not capable because it has its own
weaknesses. As Doodle grows up, he gains these negative energies from his surroundings that
makes him feel as if he won t be able to survive as long. Doodle was persistent, since he was
motivated and determined. In the story, it says, Doodle, don t you want to learn to walk? He d
nod his head, and I d say, well if you don t keep trying, you ll never learn (Hurst, 598). Being
persistent and active played a big role in both of their lives. It isn t implied that Doodle never
gave up, but from what the brother said to keep trying instead of giving up, one may see that
Doodle didn t give up. If Doodle had given up, it would have meant that he would have never

Essay about Savage Inequalities by Jonathan Kozol
Savage Inequalities by Jonathan Kozol
In Savage Inequalities, Jonathan Kozol documents the devastating inequalities in American schools,
focusing on public education s savage inequalities between affluent districts and poor districts.
From 1988 till 1990, Kozol visited schools in over thirty neighborhoods, including East St. Louis,
the Bronx, Chicago, Harlem, Jersey City, and San Antonio. Kozol describes horrifying conditions in
these schools. He spends a chapter on each area, and provides a description of the city and a
historical basis for the impoverished state of its school. These schools, usually in high crime areas,
lack the most basic needs. Kozol creates a scene of rooms without heat, few supplies or text, labs

Kozol comments that, nearly forty years after Brown vs. the Board of Education many of are
schools are still separate but no longer even remotely equal.
Kozol s main argument is that public education should be free and equal to people of all
economic classes. Kozol believes that children from poor families are cheated out of a future by
unequipped, understaffed and under funded schools in the United State s inner cities and less
affluent suburbs. The majority of these children are non white, and living amongst poverty and
crime. Kozol argues about the unfair standards we expect these underprivileged children to rise
to. Children in these poor areas are being compared to children in affluent areas where the quality
of their education is much higher. Kozol asks how these children will succeed in today s world if
they are not given the same opportunities as affluent schools give their children. Kozol believes
that by depriving our poorer children of their basic needs we are forcing them into lives of crime,
poverty and a never ending cycle of inequalities in education. Kozol stresses that these students must
be taught that savage inequalities do not have to exist between them and students in more affluent
schools, and that all children are entitled to an equal education.
I had many different reactions to this book. At first, I was horrified and shocked to learn about the
conditions of these poor schools. Growing

Sandra Cisneros s “Never Marry a Mexican”
Sandra Cisneros s short story Never Marry a Mexican deals heavily with the concept of myth in
literature, more specifically the myth La Malinche, which focuses on women, and how their lives
are spun in the shadows on men (Fitts). Myths help power some of the beliefs of entire cultures or
civilizations. She gives the reader the mind of a Mexican American woman who seems traitorous
to her friends, family and people she is close to. This causes destruction in her path in the form of
love, power, heartbreak, hatred, and an intent to do harm to another, which are themes of myth in
literature. The unreliable narrator of this story was created in this story with the purpose to show

This did not appeal to Cisneros, and these ideas helped her become a very influential writer. To
begin, the protagonist Clemencia is like a chameleon, who can blend into any social event and
with any class of wealth when she says I m amphibious. I m a person who doesn t belong to any
class. The rich like to have me around because they envy my creativity; they know they can t buy
that. The poor don t mind if I live in their neighborhood because they know I m poor like they
are, even if my education and the way I dress keeps us worlds apart (Cisneros 71,72). Clemencia
is a woman who knows how to talk and have a good time. By nature she is a very creative being
who loves to impress by wearing the best clothes, and show off to anyone to make herself seem
better than others. (Cisneros 71). Clemencia is poor and does not have much being that she
works for the school system as a translator, and other various positions. But acts rich and very
wealthy to all of her friends (Cisneros 72). This connects with the myth of La Malinche, of how
the character is a bad woman who sleeps with lots of men. Furthermore, the ability to blend in is a
power the author gives the protagonist to be a temptress to men to get them to have an affair with
her, or something that is not serious, because of her fear of commitment. Early on in Clemencia s
life, her mother told her

The Price Of Rent Prices And Increase The Supply Of Rental...
The concept of negative gearing is a difficult one to make decisions on. This is owing to the fact
that, as much as it should, in theory, lower rent prices and increase the supply of rental properties, it
certainly doesn t seem to be the case in the Australian property market. The government s position,
as stated by the Honourable Mathias Cormann, Minister for Finance, is to, presently, not make any
changes.
... the government has absolutely no plans to make any changes to negative gearing... [because] if
you are going to reduce the supply of private rental properties, you will push up the cost of rents
and you will reduce housing affordability... .
However, to not make any changes to negative gearing does not seem to be helping the property
market, nor the government, but seemingly neither will abolishing it. By abolishing negative
gearing deductions, the government could run the risk of causing defaults, bankruptcies, and
emergency sales as investors struggle or fail to make ends meet with their negatively geared
properties, causing properties to flood the housing market and a reduction in the number of rental
properties available. Nevertheless, to leave it unchanged allows high marginal tax rate investors to
continue to minimise their tax, at the expense of the government, by purposely negatively gearing
their investment properties. A change needs to be made to the negative gearing policy and perhaps
the most equitable way is to look at and change the Capital Gains Tax

A Closer Look At Enterprise Rent A Car Essay
Defining the Industry In this industry analysis, we will be taking a closer look at Enterprise
Rent A Car, which operates in the car rental industry. This industry consists of firms who rent
automobiles to consumers for a short period of time. This company is a part of the larger
corporation called Enterprise Holdings Inc. and is considered to be their flagship brand
(enterpriseholdings.com). According to Enterprise Holdings, Enterprise Rent A Car is the largest
car rental firm in the U.S. and has over 5,800 offices located near ninety percent of the population.
While some people think that the firm only deals with car rentals, Enterprise has multiple
extensions of its business including Enterprise CarShare, Enterprise Car Sales, Enterprise Truck
Rental, Enterprise Rideshare, and Zimride by Enterprise. The majority of Rent A Car s business,
however, involves neighborhood and airport car rental services. The firm s customer base includes
air travelers who are looking to secure ground transportation upon arriving at their destination as
well as people looking to rent a car from a neighborhood location. Assistant Vice President of
Government and Public Affairs for the company states that roughly $12 Billion is earned from the
airport market and $12B is earned from the neighborhood market (https://skift.com/2013/05/08

Company History Bharti Airtel
Bharti Tele Ventures was incorporated on July 7, 1995 as a company with limited liability under the
Companies Act, for promoting telecommunications services. Bharti Tele Ventures received
certificate for commencement of business on January 18, 1996.The Company was initially formed
as a wholly owned subsidiary of Bharti Telecom

It is the largest cellular provider in India, and also supplies broadband and telephone services as
well as many other telecommunications services to both domestic and corporate customers. * Other
stakeholders in Bharti Airtel include Sony Ericsson, Nokia and Sing Tel, with whom they hold a
strategic alliance. This means that the business has access to knowledge and technology from other
parts of the telecommunications world. * The company has covered the entire Indian nation with its
network. This has underpinned its large and rising customer base.
Weaknesses
* An often cited original weakness is that when the business was started by Sunil Bharti Mittal
over 15 years ago, the business has little knowledge and experience of how a cellular telephone
system actually worked. So the start up business had to outsource to industry experts in the field. *
Until recently Airtel did not own its own towers, which was a particular strength of some of its
competitors such as Hutchison Essar. Towers are important if your company wishes to provide
wide coverage nationally. * The fact that the Airtel has not pulled off a deal with South Africa s
MTN could signal the lack of any real emerging market investment opportunity for the business
once the Indian market has become mature.

The Only Reason I Asked Is That I Think It S Neat That
The only reason I asked is that I think it s neat that you worked with him on the Christmas film
and now you re both on When Calls the Heart. Yes, Paul s so wonderful. He s really a fun guy.
He keeps things super light hearted on set. He s always telling jokes. And it s really funny
because when we are on the set of A Wish for Christmas, I was mentioning to him that he should
ask his agent to get him up for When Calls the Heart. I thought he s be so perfect on the show.
And he was like, I would love to be on that show, are you kidding?! Set back in time, horses! And
we talked about it jokingly, and the next thing you know, Paul Greene s on the schedule. I was
like, I just knew it! I knew that he would perfect in Hope Valley!... Show more content on

I forgot that was you! {laughs} That s what I love about our community, especially up here in
Vancouver. Everyone up here is so connected, and everyone knows one another. Christy is
phenomenal. She is doing such great work. She and Lacey are friends. They ve worked together
a number of times. I had a blast working with her, Lacey, and Paul. A Wish for Christmas was
such a phenomenal movie. I had so much fun! It would be awesome to have you come up some
time. You know everybody anyway. I know what you mean. My problem sometimes is that I
know the actor and forget their character s name. Oh, that s a common problem on set. As an
actor on set, you are two names. The crew s supposed to refer to you by your real name, but then
sometimes when you re really going for it, especially the director, they ll just call you by your
character s name cause they re thinking in terms of the narrative. So at all times, you respond to
two names. Oh, I understand that. It s mainly with my mother who cannot keep all my actor
friends straight. But she does know you as Nurse Faith. Aw, that s very sweet. You ll have to
give her a big hello from me. I definitely will. In fact, I think when we watched A Wish For
Christmas, I wasn t looking right at the screen, and I think she recognized you before I did. Really?

Discrimination In The Movie The Help
Within the movie The Help there are a variety of major issues represented, most directly the
discrimination that existed in the 1960s. The movie itself follows the journey of a white, budding
journalist and her relationship with two black maids, Aibileen and Minny, during the Civil Rights
Movement in 1963 Jackson, Mississippi. To start off her career as a journalist she decides to write
a book, titled The Help, recounting the experiences of the black maids in her town to help expose
racism. The movie itself is very critical of the racial discrimination that existed in its time frame but
some say that it silently communicates racist tones throughout the entire movie. This argument is
justified as the movie often found itself highlighting... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within the movie there s a continued feeling of helplessness with the black maids, with how
desperate their situations seem to be. But, that all changes when Skeeter decides to start writing
about the hardships that they have. All of a sudden everything seems to be a little lighter, more
hopeful as soon a Skeeter is implemented into the movie. Although it may be historically
accurate at the time that there weren t many black journalists, the black maids at the very least
could ve written their story themselves and perhaps taken a more forward and progressive role
to reveal the discrimination that they faced. But, in the movie the black maids do nothing until
Skeeter arrives. An example of this happens in the movie where there was no one was willing to
talk about their own problems until Skeeter started asking around. Although this would have
been accurate for the time period for the movie as they would have been scared of the
repercussions, it gives a sense of helplessness for the black community. Some people would ve
for sure started to talk and write about ehr own problems especially at the time period that the
movie was taking place with Martin Luther King and his civil rights march. This was the time
period of major change in the U.S.A especially for black communities since they finally had a
voice. Furthermore, once Skeeter finished writing her book it seemed as if everyone instantly
started to read the book and started treated black maids better. Perhaps it time it would result in
events that did happen in the movie, but obviously this wouldn t happen overnight or even over
a week as seen. All of this makes the viewer of The Help feel as if Skeeter was the main driving
force of the movement in her town and she should be the one praised, not the black maids who had
to suffer and risked everything by telling their

Argumentative Essay On Black Panthers

Oakland s Finest; The Black Panthers Shocking the United States with one symbol, the raised
fist, the Black Panther Party delivered an ultimatum to the entire nation. Stand with us in the
Black Power Movement or be against us by supporting the lying and deceitful government.
Founded in 1966 by Huey Newton and Bobby Seale, they birthed the start to the American
Public having their voice heard on tense issues. The Black Panther s lasting effects on society are
through their actions, philosophy, and modern day views of race. Many groups have stressed the
importance of Black Rights, but none have come as close as The Black Panthers to getting it
recognized. Marching up the concrete stairs to the front of one of the most iconic places of
Californian Government, The Capital, Black Panthers pounced to the top with fully loaded
shotguns and rope to scale to the summit of The Capital. This was a retaliation to a bill that was
proposed that would scale down the rights of the 2nd Amendment of California. Attempting to
combat Panther Patrols, a neighborhood watch that took justice under their jurisdiction, the
government epically failed paying the price for trying to suppress the voice of the people. This
was similarly done with the Civil Rights Movement as police brutality had reached an all time high
against African Americans. Disagreeing with Martin Luther King s view of how to act, the BPP

Russian Revolution And The Soviet Revolution
For over three hundred years, Russia had been controlled by an autocratic government known as
the tsarist regime. This empire was ruled by a series of tsars who had absolute dictatorship over
the country. (BBC, 2014). From around the time of Peter the Great s reign, the empire began to
impose its will on the people with absolute disregard for their lives and liberty. This incorporation of
force caused repression and unrest amongst the people and the Russian Revolution was essentially
an outburst from this. (Columbia Encyclopedia, n.d). The Russian Revolution consisted of two
separate strikes in 1917, the first of which overthrew the imperial government and the second strike
which placed the Bolshevik party in power. The Russian Revolution evidently brought a drastic
transformation to the government, society and economy of Russia. The communist party who took
power over Russia did evidently improve the economy and reshape the military forces which
proved vital for Russia in WW2. (Quizlet, 2015). Overall, the Russian Revolution was beneficial to
the country s development. Today, in modern history we credit Vladimir Leninfor the Revolution s
succession. However, many people forget to acknowledge the role played by Leon Trotskywho
stood by Lenin s side throughout the Revolution. I believe that Leon Trotsky and his actions during
the Russian Revolution were essential to the security of the revolution and therefore his overall
impact and status is heroic.

Population Control
Every day, over three hundred million babies are born around the world. Abortion lowers the
population number a minute amount, but according to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), only
about 1 in every five parents abort, resulting in a population increase of four live births. Without
control, the human population growth will not stop. Companies will try to meet the demand for
more consumer goods, causing the development of more factories. Deforestation, or the clearing of
forests, will occur to build the factories. The increase in factories will result in higher carbon dioxide
levels emitted into the atmosphere. Humans are unquestionably the most advanced species. They
are also, unfortunately, the most destructive. Humans are causing a surprising amount of damage to
Earth because of one thing, overpopulation.
Machines clear trees from land to accommodate the demand for housing and commercial buildings,
which in turn causes the release of carbon dioxide through gas emissions. Also, tropical forests
contain more than two hundred ten gigatons of carbon dioxide which are released into the
atmosphere when they are cut down which then increases the amount of greenhouse gases. Tropical
trees alone are responsible for releasing more than 15 percent of greenhouse gas emissions. In the
Eastern Hemisphere, there are high greenhouse gas emissions due to the clearing, draining and
conversion of many forests into pulp plantations. The absence of trees causes an increased amount

Coronary Disease Paper
Coronary disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. According to Centers for

2015) . This disease has a natural cradle to grave course of action that may consist of susceptibility,
presymptomatic disease, clinical disease, recovery disable and/or death(Mills, 2015). Many factors
can result in a person to be susceptible to a particular disease. The stage of susceptibility precedes

The stage of clinical disease begins when signs and symptoms are manifest (Merrill, 2013, p. 51).
Symptoms may occur differently between men and women. For example, angina and heart attack
symptoms have similar warning signs however Women are somewhat more likely than men to
have other symptoms like shortness of breath, nausea, and back or jaw pain. Some women
describe their symptoms as mild. Others feel tired when they have angina (Cardiosmart.org, 2012).
Women that experience heart attacks are somewhat more likely than men to have other symptoms
like shortness of breath, nausea, and back or jaw pain (Cardiosmart.org, 2012). Responding
appropriately to the clinical onset of coronary disease will determine if the patient can recover or
suffer disability or death. Having clinical symptoms can be a frightening experience. Patients that
suffer clinical symptoms have different end results. Early detection and effective treatment can
prevent the long term effects of coronary disease. Most patients make a full recovery with diet and
exercise. Some become disabled after clinical symptoms occur, while others experience death.
Immediate attention when a person is experiencing symptoms generally results in a better overall

International Student Club Personal Statement Examples
I am interested in applying to be the Vice President of the International Student Club because I want
to become proactive about the role I play in creating a wholesome community for international
students on this campus. Given the shifts occurring on campus with respect to international
students in terms of ISC not being very active this academic year, lapse in communication with
exchange students in a structured manner, and the dissolving of International House and
consolidation in South Hall, it has become difficult for international students to find their footing in
the campus and assimilate into LeTourneau. As a cabinet member of ISC I want to actively enable
building this community anew. The lack of a physical space for international students will play a
huge role; in that vacuum, I believe that intentional organization and synergy of all international
studentled initiatives like ISC, SINC, Mosaic, Graduate student cohorts and PA s should work
together to generate a community which enables incoming students and current students to connect

Tension Between The Establishment Clause And The Free...
1.Explain the tension between the establishment clause and the free exercise clause of the First
amendment. Support your explanation with at least one example. First we must understand the
purpose of each of these clauses of the First Amendment. A common misunderstanding of the
Establishment Clause is that it safeguards individual rights. In reality the purpose of the
Establishment Clause is to limit the government s power in respect to legislating on matters that
deals with respecting an establishment of religion. . The Free Exercise Clause has only a sole
purpose, the safeguarding of individual rights, specifically related to religion. For all practical
purposes there is no tension between these two clauses. The Supreme Court has established that
both clauses are independent in their purpose and that neither one is more important than the other
Conflict is not possible, for each clause in its own way was a negative on powers that might have
been implied from the original Constitution. Two negatives cannot conflict. The religious rights of
individuals and the ordering of relations between government and religion while complementary,
not contradictory are altogether different enterprises. There are several historical court cases
involving Jehovah s Witnesses and their rights related to the First Amendment and its multiple
clauses. In 1943 West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette overturned another landmark
case, Minersville School District v. Gobitis

  • 2. Comparing Ludwig Beethoven And Beethoven s Appassionata... Both Ludwig Beethoven s Appassionata piano sonata and Franz Liszt s B minor sonata are recognized as some of the best compositions of the nineteenth century. The complexity and creativity of these pieces are astonishing. Considering both pieces are sonatas they have some similar aspects, but they are also very different which can be credited to the brilliant minds who composed them. These pieces are both masterpieces of their time which is what has made them stand out amongst the many songs composed during the nineteenth century. In this paper I will touch on the significant attributes of these pieces and compare their similarities and differences. The first piece I will introduce is Appassionata by Ludwig Van Beethoven. Appassionata was composed during a time of many changes in both Beethoven s life and the musical world around him. By 1800 Beethoven s hearing had deteriorated so much that he was almost completely deaf. Although this was not something easy to cope with, Beethoven did not let this obstacle hinder his career. In fact, in many aspects his works flourished, and a new wave of creativity sparked in his career. Beethoven was not the first to compose a multimovement piece for the piano, but he was the first to stray from the former expectations of piano sonatas. Beethoven s new sonatas were longer than most and incorporated dramatic elements. With just one instrument Beethoven was able to convey so much power and emotion, something that no one at the time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Compages And Disadvantages Of Costing Systems Costing Systems The costing systems aid companies in determining the cost of a product in relation to the revenue the product generates. The costing systems commonly used in businesses include activity based costing and traditional costing. Traditional costing system assigns the manufacturing overhead based on the capacity of a cost driver. For example, the amount of direct working hours required to produce a particular item. Cost drivers are factors that cause cost to incur, like machine hours, direct material hours, and direct labor hours. Activity based costing system allocates cost of manufacturing a product in accordance to the activities required to produce the particular item. It s therefore essential for managers to understand the merits ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, in a banking context, the activity of a bank teller is ascribed to each item through measuring how long each item transaction (cost driver) takes at a counter and them measuring the number of each form of transaction. In a machinery context for the activity of running machinery, the driver is often the machine operating hours i.e. machine operating hour s maintenance, power cost in the running of machinery and labor cost activities. ABC systems use activities as the main cost objects. The system works on the notion that activities cause costs, and cost objects create demand for activities. The system is flexible as it relates costs to customers, management responsibility and processor and not just the products. ABC system applies activities as the basic cost objects while using the costs of such activities as the building blocks for compiling costs of other cost objects. The application of activity based costing system embraces advanced planning, control and monitoring system that encompasses: activity based costing; activity based budgeting; activity reporting; activity based cost management; performance benchmarking and measurement; customer /product and sector profitability, business process re engineering; and continuous ... • 4. The Tea Of Tea Master When I first entered the tea house, the aroma of many tea leaves struck me in my nose. I was deeply welcomed by many people. The atmosphere was very lively. The first thing I realized when sitting down at the tea gathering table was the amount of utensils there were to make a cup of tea and the traditional clothing TeaMaster Michael Fung was wearing. This made me feel like Tea Master Michael Fung was deeply passionate and interested in the art of tea. As more students came, I realized that it was very cramped. It reminded me of a quote when Dr. Jack said that it was best to drink tea with only two people and the more we have the more it feels uncomfortable. During the beginning of the ceremony, Tea Master Michael Fung, owner of The Best Tea House Co. , took many aged Pu er tea cakes for us to experiment and observe. Many students and I, saw many differences such as how it smells and how the colour changes over time. Tea Master Michael Fung also talked about the history and the origins of tea and why it is drank and how it is developed. He also mentioned that the waxing paper determines the tea s quality. Pu er tea is an aged dark tea produced in Yunnanprovince of China under the process of fermentation and Tea Master Michael Fung showed us the difference between Sheng and Shu Cha and its health benefits. Since Pu er tea can be stored to mature, I observed that there was a year and the region of production on each packaging. There was also many shapes such as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Pancakes Vs Waffles Research Paper In a battle of epic proportions, who will win? Waffles or Pancakes? While both are widely eaten and made, pancakes, with their easy assembly, creativity, and versatility, are the superior breakfast food. Both pancakes and waffles are popular breakfast foods that everyone has eaten. I too have had, and made, many pancakes and waffles in my lifetime. Pancakes are far easier to assemble. They only require premade pancakemix, a stove, and a pan. Everyone has these things! A waffle iron, however, is much harder to come by. Waffle irons also constrict creativity. All of your waffles are going to be in whatever standard square or circular shape your waffle iron is. Pancakes can be made into any shape! People even endeavor into pancake art, making ... • 6. Problems Associated with Celiac Disease and Lactose... Introduction: Enzymes are essential to the proper functioning of the human body. Enzymes are catalysts, which cause reactions to occur. The two primary classes of enzymes for maintaining life functions are digestive and metabolic enzymes. The primary digestive enzymes are classified as proteases, amylases and lipases. These enzymes can help breakdown food molecules. Metabolic enzymes are responsible for the repairing and structuring of every cell. Inadequate production of digestive enzymes can have a negative impact on the breakdown of food into the various nutrients our bodies require. The amount of small intestine damaged due to a loss of villi determines the severity of symptoms due to the diseases. Severe signs and symptoms of malabsorption are evident in people whose small intestine is affected by a loss of villi (Marks). Therefore this explains the various problems a person with celiac disease encounters. 1 Lactose intolerance occurs when the body has a hard time digesting dairy products. Lactose is a milk sugar and is broken down by enzymes in the intestinal track, allowing the enzymes to be used as an energy source. Lactase is an enzyme which breaks down lactose. Lactose intolerance occurs when the intestine does not contain lactase (Jackson). Low lactose activity in the small intestine, allows undigested lactose to pass into the colon, where the bacteria are able to convert the sugar into hydrogen gas and organic acids. This causes symptoms such as bloating and cramping ( Lactose Intolerance ). The two causes of lactose intolerance are primary lactase deficiency and secondary lactase deficiency. In primary lactase deficiency the level of lactase enzyme falls as a person gets older. This does not allow the person to tolerate the amount of lactose that they were used to. This affects around 70 percent of the population. Secondary lactase deficiency is a temporary condition in which the level of lactase drops due to a problem in a person s digestive ... The Role Of The Nurse Leader The Role of the Nurse Leader in Quality Preventable hospital readmissions remain among one of the many serious quality issues plaguing the healthcare industry today. Readmissions can carry fiscal implications, impact patient safety, and outcomes of care (Helm, Alaeddini, Bretthauer, Skolarus, 2016). The cost of unplanned hospital readmissions is estimated to be upwards of $15 billion dollars annually of which $12 billion has been associated with preventable admissions (Helm et al., 2016). It is highly recognized that as many as 20% of Medicare beneficiaries are presently being readmitted within 30 days of discharge (Hunter, Nelson, Birmingham, 2013; Verhaegh, Mac Neil Vroomen, Eslami, Geerlings, de Rooij, et al., 2014). Additionally, she said they compared the patient s ED diagnosis to the previous admission and discharge diagnosis (K. Larry, personal communication, March 15, 2017). Finally, reviewers correlated readmissions with the following information: site of hospitalization, type of admission (i.e. surgical, medical, or behavioral health), the complexity of the hospitalization, and the age of the patient (K. After obtaining the necessary data, Ms. Larry stated that reviewers worked on determining the frequency of post discharge ED visits resulting in readmissions and the factors associated with each ED visit (personal communication, March 15, 2017). • 10. Essay On Writing Experience I either go to television or turn on the radio in my car (Whitefield 2011). Before I started this class, that is what I thought about when someone asked me Do you keep up with the news? . Most people do not get the opportunity to learn about what is going on around the world in their everyday lives and how they can help out. I feel that being in this class I got the chance to learn more about life and what is happening everywhere, not just insignificant matters such as who Kim Kardashian is now dating or why Kylie Jenner got more lip injections, I am learning about the important things. I am getting the chance to learn about how I can participate in the world to make big changes because of reading The New York Times , Why Local Newspapers, and Freedom is Intended as a Challenge. The reading and writing experience I had when writing my papers on the news stories was great. Not only did I get the chance to learn more about my surrounding and what is happening in different places such as Russia, but I also had the chance to connect the stories to my own life. I was able to learn better ways to write, such as taking things head on, writing how you truly feel, and writing what you believe is right. We see a lot of problems today. • 11. The Sociological Explanations for Class Inequality Essay... The Sociological Explanations for Class Inequality There is much debate in sociology about whether class is still important. Many argue that class is no longer important as an individual s identity and life chances are based more status and cultural factors such as lifestyle, values, intelligence, education and the like, the post modernists state that class has ceased to be the prime determinant of identity and suggest that societies are now organised around consumption rather than production, consequently people now identify themselves in terms of what they consume rather than in terms of social class position. Class identity has therefore fragmented into numerous separate and individualised... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Davis and More state that this is fair as everyone finds their place in a society which offers different levels of rewards, thus inequality is legitimate. They state that since there is value consensus on the relative merit of certain occupations and the salaries they command, inequality does not cause conflict, but is seen as legitimate by all and is an accepted part of society. Talcott Parsons agreed with this and stated that inequality is inevitable, legitimate and functional for everyone. The strength of this theory is that it allows inequality to be linked to talent which is unequally distributed. However, this theory has many weaknesses; it assumes we all agree about the relative merit of certain occupations, when in reality this is not true. It also assumes that there are no structural barriers in society to those who have talent, for example, race or gender. Although this meritocratic approach has been developed more recently by the new right , with sociologists such as Saunders arguing that inequality is a necessary push for economic growth which in turn increases living standards, it has also been criticised by those such as Will Hutton who argued that inequality has led to poorer economic performance and not ... • 25. Verisimilitude In The Misanthrope Ali Schonhoff Theatre History I Dave Pasto 14 October 2015 The Misanthrope Consideration 1.Verisimilitude is the appearance of truth. It can be broken down into three parts: a.Probability: how likely is it that these events could actually happen? To keep the plots of neoclassic plays probable, playwrights removed supernatural and fantasy characters, the chorus, and any soliloquy or aside where a character would speak directly to the audience and not to another character. In MoliГЁre s play The Misanthrope, this can be seen right off the bat as Alceste informs the audience of his love for CГ©limГЁne by discussing it with Philinte who here serves as a confidant for Alceste to avoid using a soliloquy. b.Morality: Neoclassic plays were meant to instruct and delight. Credit unions have concerns on how these affects their operations. Concerned investors overreacted to the news of a slower Chinese economy, which partly explains the stock market turmoil in the U.S. and around the world. China s economy is not immune from the business cycle. Its economy s growth rate eventually came down from the double digits to the single digits as it undergoes structural changes. Moreover, it is difficult to aggregate the effects of China s economic slowdown in future U.S. economic growth. During this semester, my ability to give speeches in front of an audience has improved quite a bit, I hope. Going into the semester, I had a really hard time giving speeches to people, but now that speechis almost over I feel like I am more capable of doing so. I think the thing I did best during the semester was getting good information for each of my speeches. My favorite assignment was most likely the impromptu speech. I really liked that one because we did not have to prepare an outline or anything like that, we just got to go up there and speak. During this semester, I learned a lot about how to give speeches such as the proper way to stand so I do not rock, or how to use my hands to emphasize my points. In the future, I think that I will be able to control my speed betterduring my speeches which will help the people I am presenting to understand my message. I think the skills I have acquired during speech will help me for the rest of my life. No matter what career I choose, I am sure that at some point I will have to present to someone about something. The skills I learned in speech will also help me just communicate with people in a one on one situation easier than I do now. As Doodle grows up, he gains these negative energies from his surroundings that makes him feel as if he won t be able to survive as long. Doodle was persistent, since he was motivated and determined. In the story, it says, Doodle, don t you want to learn to walk? He d nod his head, and I d say, well if you don t keep trying, you ll never learn (Hurst, 598). Being persistent and active played a big role in both of their lives. It isn t implied that Doodle never gave up, but from what the brother said to keep trying instead of giving up, one may see that Doodle didn t give up. If Doodle had given up, it would have meant that he would have never learned how to walk. The scarlet ibis traveled around, and it was strange, since it came out of nowhere, and... Essay about Savage Inequalities by Jonathan Kozol Savage Inequalities by Jonathan Kozol In Savage Inequalities, Jonathan Kozol documents the devastating inequalities in American schools, focusing on public education s savage inequalities between affluent districts and poor districts. From 1988 till 1990, Kozol visited schools in over thirty neighborhoods, including East St. Louis, the Bronx, Chicago, Harlem, Jersey City, and San Antonio. Kozol describes horrifying conditions in these schools. He spends a chapter on each area, and provides a description of the city and a historical basis for the impoverished state of its school. Kozol comments that, nearly forty years after Brown vs. the Board of Education many of are schools are still separate but no longer even remotely equal. Kozol s main argument is that public education should be free and equal to people of all economic classes. Kozol believes that children from poor families are cheated out of a future by unequipped, understaffed and under funded schools in the United State s inner cities and less affluent suburbs. The majority of these children are non white, and living amongst poverty and crime. Kozol argues about the unfair standards we expect these underprivileged children to rise to. Children in these poor areas are being compared to children in affluent areas where the quality of their education is much higher. Kozol asks how these children will succeed in today s world if they are not given the same opportunities as affluent schools give their children. Kozol believes that by depriving our poorer children of their basic needs we are forcing them into lives of crime, poverty and a never ending cycle of inequalities in education. Kozol stresses that these students must be taught that savage inequalities do not have to exist between them and students in more affluent schools, and that all children are entitled to an equal education. I had many different reactions to this book. At first, I was horrified and shocked to learn about the conditions of these poor schools. Growing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The rich like to have me around because they envy my creativity; they know they can t buy that. The poor don t mind if I live in their neighborhood because they know I m poor like they are, even if my education and the way I dress keeps us worlds apart (Cisneros 71,72). This is owing to the fact that, as much as it should, in theory, lower rent prices and increase the supply of rental properties, it certainly doesn t seem to be the case in the Australian property market. The government s position, as stated by the Honourable Mathias Cormann, Minister for Finance, is to, presently, not make any changes. ... the government has absolutely no plans to make any changes to negative gearing... [because] if you are going to reduce the supply of private rental properties, you will push up the cost of rents and you will reduce housing affordability... . However, to not make any changes to negative gearing does not seem to be helping the property market, nor the government, but seemingly neither will abolishing it. By abolishing negative gearing deductions, the government could run the risk of causing defaults, bankruptcies, and emergency sales as investors struggle or fail to make ends meet with their negatively geared properties, causing properties to flood the housing market and a reduction in the number of rental properties available. Nevertheless, to leave it unchanged allows high marginal tax rate investors to continue to minimise their tax, at the expense of the government, by purposely negatively gearing their investment properties. A change needs to be made to the negative gearing policy and perhaps the most equitable way is to look at and change the Capital Gains Tax ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

From around the time of Peter the Great s reign, the empire began to impose its will on the people with absolute disregard for their lives and liberty. This incorporation of force caused repression and unrest amongst the people and the Russian Revolution was essentially an outburst from this. (Columbia Encyclopedia, n.d). Support your explanation with at least one example. First we must understand the purpose of each of these clauses of the First Amendment. A common misunderstanding of the Establishment Clause is that it safeguards individual rights. In reality the purpose of the Establishment Clause is to limit the government s power in respect to legislating on matters that deals with respecting an establishment of religion. . The Free Exercise Clause has only a sole purpose, the safeguarding of individual rights, specifically related to religion. For all practical purposes there is no tension between these two clauses. The Supreme Court has established that both clauses are independent in their purpose and that neither one is more important than the other Conflict is not possible, for each clause in its own way was a negative on powers that might have been implied from the original Constitution. Two negatives cannot conflict. The religious rights of individuals and the ordering of relations between government and religion while complementary, not contradictory are altogether different enterprises.
