The International Organization For Migration
The migration crisis has reached a level where Europe must take a stand and must present a viable
plan, expressing the future goals the European government believes will help solves this crisis. The
International Organization for Migration said, between January and November 2015 more than
750,000 migrants are predicted to arrive in Europefrom across the Mediterranean. As a union,
Europe is showing the world that they are not a cohesive organization prepared to face the future
with respects to the mass migration. The policy concerning migration at the European Unionlevel
states that each nation has the right to their own migration policies, while adhering to the European
migration institutions, which are not fully established. So far, many of the migrants coming to
Europe are settling in Italy and Greece; many hope to be able to reach Germany as their final
destination. The important underlining problem is the fact that these migrants are arriving and
staying in Italy and Greece. Both Italy and Greece are going through an economic crisis that cannot
sustain the migrants that are landing within their borders; they are asking the European Union to
give them relief, by imposing quotas to redistribute the migrants to other European nations that are
a part of the migration policy. The migrant crisis also brings insecurity to nations such as Italy and
Greece because of they are not prepared to deal with the amount of people entering in their borders.
Not all European countries

Benefits Of Employers Adopting Flexible Working Practices...
Essay Question: 2. There has been an increase in the number of employers adopting flexible
working practices. Critically examine the advantages and drawbacks of this for both the
organisation and workforce.
EARNING DEVELOPMENT THROUGH FEEDBACK
Taking into account the numerous feedbacks I have received from different lecturers, they have
helped me to tackle a research topic with necessary skills like referencing and the importance of
having a well laid out introduction and conclusion part. Throughout this learning process, I have
ensured to come up with a research thesis that clearly lays out the focus of the essay within the
introduction section. As a result of this, I have managed to write up effective arguments in relation
to any provided topic as can be shown in this assignment.

The context for which current jobs take place is changing in a more rapid way thereby developing
new issues and chances for organisations in the United Kingdom, Australia and beyond (Podnar

the modern working environments are far much defines by such aspects as advanced technologies;
new societal values; ever changing demographics; and, also aggressive rapid globalisation.

The Homelessness Problem Of Homelessness
Homelessness has been an sociological issue for a very long time now. It seems to be a rising
issue all over the country. Here in the Portland, Oregon area, we are very lucky. This is a
wonderful place to live. Socially, we accept everyone no matter what you look like or believe in.
Our mantra is Keep Portland Weird. Honestly, from a sociological standpoint, there are not that
many issues, however there is one that is growing and is becoming a major problem. In Portland,
we have a major homelessnessproblem. On top of the homeless issues there is a growing
indifference towards the homeless issue from the rest of the population. People just do not
seem to care about the homeless here in Portland. We see them so much it is almost like we are
used to them and we do not think about it. We just walk right by, indifferent. Some are annoyed
by the homeless here, most seem to act like they are invisible. The homeless are people too, they
should be treated with dignity. In the past year or so, around 2 million people were left
homeless and this is sure to continue to rise over the next few years. No one really knows why
this is the way it is. Some factors that could cause homelessness are losing a job, not being able
to find a job, low wages, too many bills, various disabilities, and lack of affordable housing and
help. The term homelessness means people who do not have a home. The issue needs to be looked
at in many different angles. Homelessness can be looked at through the eyes

Fluoride Decline
Introduction Fluoride is the ionic form of the element fluorine and is the 13th most abundant
element in the earth s crust. Chemically, fluoride is negatively charged and combines with positive
ions to form stable compounds such as calcium fluoride or sodium fluoride. Such fluorides are
released into the environment naturally in the form of both water and air. Generally, when the term
fluorideis mentioned, thoughts associated with calcified tissues (i.e., bones and teeth) are
provoked. This is likely due to fluoride s high affinity for calcium, enabling its ability to inhibit or
even reverse the initiation and progression of dental caries, otherwise known as tooth decay. Caries

The developing human brain is uniquely vulnerable to toxic chemical exposures, and major
windows of developmental vulnerability occur in the womb, during infancy and early childhood.
Chemical exposure, even at low levels, can cause permanent brain injury during these fragile
growth phases, where exposure during adulthood would have little or no adverse effects. Classified
amongst other neurotoxic chemicals, fluoride, when administered at high levels, has the potential
to cause neurotoxicity in adults and can result in negative impacts on memory and learning

What Is Proactive Interference
Introduction
By the age of seven, reading is an activity many children are well accustomed to. With the amount
of time most individuals have been reading, this task is relatively easy. Yet, there are still instances
in which we are reading a novel, a magazine, or even a simple text message, and we simply cannot
manage to remember what we read. This is event is due to interference. Interference theory states
that there are two forms of interference that can hinder our ability to properly encode information
into our memory (Bergstrom 1892), proactive interference and retroactive interference. When
reading, however, visual interference can play a large part in disrupting out learning process.
In the experiment commonly known for the development ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

A controlled process is a task which is new or unique to the person. It is serial, takes heavy
demands on attention, requires conscious efforts to direct attention towards the task and is slow.
Whereas an automatic process is a task which has already been learned. It can be parallel, makes
no demands on attention, does not need conscious direction of attention towards the task and is
fast. This implies that when we are presented with a word, the action of stating its color is a
relatively new task compared to the already learnt behavior to read just words. Therefore, reading is
seen as the automatic process which interferes with the slower controlled process of stating the
color. With the alteration of the original Stroop Effect experiment, the automaticity model is
discredited due to the fact that instead of stating the word the participant points at the observed
color instead. This nonverbal response, pointing at the color, is not believed to be an automatic
process, thus the automaticity model is questioned when researchers note an interference in the
speed of processing in incongruently colored

Speech On Integrity
Integrity, as we all may know,is not a joke. Something many people take very seriously. I would
hope you all would know the definition of integrity, if not I guess it would be helpful to tell you.
Integrity in the internet s perspective is the quality of being honest and having strong moral
principles; moral uprightness, the state of being whole and undivided. In my Perspective Integrityis
being able to be honest and true, to not just yourself but everyone that s in your surroundings as
well. There is another version of integrity and that is self Integrity which is known as the process
of knowing your self, a process of self sought but never completed. Honesty is the state imposed
by others, which is somewhat connected to self integrity. Integrity is how a person will live their
life however they please. In this crazy thing we call life, we tend to face many choices every
single day that not only can we personally answer but everyone can answer as well. Integrity is
doing the right thing versus the wrong thing, and I am not saying that any of the definitions are
incorrect, but what I am portraying is that everybody s definitionis different, and will always be
different.
Now let s talk about this topic called Honesty. I would hope this word stands out to all of you,
because this is not something little. This is a strong word. This word carries a lot of work. There
is no other way to explain it other than be truthful, and not lying. Whether or not you are an honest
person

Pueblo Revolt Research Paper
The Pueblo Revolt of 1680 is an important event in U.S. history having been the first complete
victory for Native Americans against any European nation. One of the major conflicts between the
Pueblo Indians and the Spanish colonists was their different religions. Many historians believe that
the Pueblo Indians revolted against the Spanish in order to eliminate Catholicism because it was
threatening their own beliefs. Many Spanish officials interpret the Pueblo Revolt as being
unnecessary and guided by the devil. The continuing study of this historical event will allow current
Pueblo villages to learn about their ancestors history and the major role religion had on the revolt.

Many of those documents, however, were destroyed during the Pueblo Revolt when the natives
burned down government buildings and records. However, previously to the Pueblo Revolt,
Spanish government officials had sent out reports which shed a light on the relations between
Spaniards and Pueblo Indians prior to the revolt. With new understanding of popular Indian beliefs,
historians are now able to adjust the one sided interpretations that European nations developed
when documenting their relationship with the natives. Historians who are well informed of
popular Indian beliefs, have interpreted the Pueblo Revolt was an act to reject Catholicism
because it was threatening their own culture. The Pueblo Revolt was an attempt to preserve the
kind of life which they thought the gods had ordained and which aliens were obviously destroying
(Weber, 1999, p. 227). The Pueblo Indians feared that the Spanish colonist would destroy all
aspects of their religion, like sacred texts and structures, which were indispensable and would be
essential for the survival of their Pueblo

Trump s Immigration Issues
According to the most recently elected President of the United States, Donald Trump, I could ...
shoot people and I wouldn t lose any voters. Ironically, this quote from President Donald Trump
stated on January 23, 2016 at a rally in Iowa coincides with his continuous claims that immigrants
are a danger to our country because of their risk of terrorism. In 1790, Congress adopted a
uniform law so that any ВЁfree white personВЁ could apply for citizenship after two years of
residency. In 1868, nearly 80 years later, African Americans gained citizenship to the United States
with the Fourteenth Amendment. Finally, in 1882, the Chinese Exclusion Act was passed,
suspending Chinese immigration for 10 years and barring Chinese in the U.S. from citizenship....

Although it seems like we have been changing our immigration laws to make our country a more
open and welcoming society for all people, regardless of race or religion, it appears our new
president is rewinding history. The first American nationality lawwas enacted by Congress in 1790
which allowed free white people to earn citizenship after two years of residency in the country.
According to Charles Gordon, Former Deputy General Counsel of the U.S. Immigration and
Naturalization Service, ВЁAlthough there was no contemporaneous Congressional expression to
clarify the legislative intent, it seems clear that the racial limitation [of the law] was designed to
exclude two categories: (1) chattel slaves, both Negro and White, and (2) Indians. Both groups
evidently were deemed unfit for participation in full political privilege. The designation of free
white persons as the sole group eligible for naturalization continued without change for eighty years.
Much like what is happening in present day with Trump s travel ban, the first law regarding
immigration to be enacted in the United States excluded specific groups that were deemed unfit for
full participation. On January 29, 2017, Passengers [at Dulles International Airport outside of

Summary Of Soledad Brother By George Jackson
Hope is a Necessity In a world that is so unpredictable, sometimes there is nothing else that a
person can do to make a situation better besides hoping for a good outcome. Hope can have a
big impact on the way people view the world, and can potentially save lives. Hope is
communicated in many ways, including a variety of art forms, such as literature. Some examples
of literature that show how powerful having hope can be are the novel Soledad Brother by George
Jackson, the short storySalvation by Langston Hughes, the short story Superheroes, Just for Each
Other by Peter S. Goodman and the article Man Needs Hope to Live, by Christopher Kaczor.
These literary works show that even the smallest bit of hope can help a person make wiser
decisions regarding his or her future, but having no hope for the future leads people to make
choices that are ethically wrong.
Soledad Brother by George Jackson is a piece of literature that shows that hope can sway a person
s decision about the actions that he or she takes. The novel is written in the stream of consciousness
writing style. All the letters that Jackson writes show that he has hatred towards the system in
which he is living in. Jackson was sentenced to one year to life in jail. Even though Jackson has
some repulsive thoughts about the police officers and their ideas, he does nothing to express his
opinion about the police officers, such as starting an argument or fight with the police officers,
because he has hope that if

The Death Of Our Village
When I was young our village was much different than the hell we are in now. It all began when
me and some other children were playing on the beach. We suddenly saw something floating in
the distance. It appeared to be an enemy ship approaching, but as it was drawn further in by the
rolling tide, we could make out outlines of a human figure. Slowly but surely the waves pushed
the mysterious being onto the shore. We dragged him over to the sand. Water began to sprout from
his mouth like a newly dug up spring. With little sputtered coughs he vomited the sea water all
out. His eyes shot open shocking us all. With all his might he tried to raise his body, only to be lose
out to his exhaustion.
With all the commotion gone, we were able to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We did not even have to clean off his face to know that the dead man was a stranger. The village
was made up of only twenty odd wooden houses that had stone courtyards with no flowers and
which were spread about on the end of a desert like cape. There was so little land that mothers
always went about with the fear that the wind would carry off their children and the few dead that
the years had caused among them had to be thrown off the cliffs. But the sea was calm and
bountiful and all the men fitted into seven boats. So when we found the drowned man we simply
had to look at one another to see that we were all there.
That night the men did not work at sea. While the men went to find out if anyone was missing in
neighboring villages, the women stayed behind to care for the drowned man. The woman took the
mud off with grass swabs, they removed the underwater stones entangled in his hair, and washed
him with soap and water. As they were doing that we noticed that the vegetation on him came
from faraway oceans and that his clothes were in tatters, as if he had sailed through labyrinths of
coral. But only when they finished cleaning him off did we become aware of the kind of man he
was and it left them breathless. He was the tallest, strongest, most virile, and best built man we had
ever seen.
We could not find a bed in the village large enough to lay him on nor was there a table solid
enough to use for him. The tallest men s

Harry Potter s Life Has Been Influenced By The Choices Of...
Since the beginning of the series, Harry Potter s life has been influenced by the choices of Albus
Dumbledore. Everything that has happened to Harry has occurred because of Dumbledore, but
does that make him purely Dumbledore s boy or is he his own person with agency to do as he
wants? After Voldemort murdered Harry s parents, Dumbledore decided to bring baby Harry to
his aunt and uncles because they re the only family he has left now, and he feels it s the best
place for him (Sorcerer s Stone). Dumbledore is the one that decided to send him to his relatives
that underfed him, gave him only a closet, hand me down clothes, become their servant, and be
bullied by his cousin Dudley. Later we learn Dumbledore sent him there because of the
protection of his family since his aunt was his mother s sister. The protection meant if
Voldemort came back and tried to attack Harry in his aunt and uncle s home he wouldn t be able
to touch Harry there, but that doesn t justify the actions of his aunt and uncle. For eleven years,
Harry was left in the dark about his parents and magic. Dumbledore was the first person to ever
show Harry any sort of positive emotion or caring attribute, which could lead to Harry becoming
the servant of Dumbledore. In the Sorcerer s stone, Dumbledore gave Harry the invisibility
cloak. He left it with a note saying, your father left this in my possession before he died. Use it well

(1776) in his book the wealth of nations, no society can surely be flourishing and happy, of which
the far greater part of the members are poor and miserable . Economic growth and income
inequality are central inter related facets that explain current trend in global issues. Oxfam (2016)
suggested that 62 of the richest people have the same wealth as the 3.6 billion poorest people. The
rich continue to acquire wealth, while the poor struggle for basic things required for survival like
food, access to clean water and shelter. The research question proposed is: Does income inequality
have an impact on economic growth? . This chapter highlights the key concepts and notions which
underlie the subject matter of the study in order to provide an ideal frame for understanding the
relationship between income inequality and economic growth and answering the research question.
It will also look at previous empirical studies carried out by other researchers in this field and
identify gaps in the existing literature. 2.0 Theoretical Framework and Empirical Evidence
Inequality is generally referred to unfair distribution of resource among individuals. Inequality can

Cognitive Dissonance Paper
Introduction
The words Cognitive Dissonance were fascinatingly interesting; therefore more research went
into the origin of these two words. Both words are Middle English, which was the English in use
from 12th to 15th centuries and both used in the 15th century [ (Merriam Webster, 2011) ].
Cognitive is an adjective meaning, there is physical activity involving the mind; be it: thinking,
reasoning or remembering. Dissonance is a noun meaning, when there is a tug of war between
one s actions and one s mind [ (Merriam Webster, 2011) ].This paper will explore that tug of war
of the mind (conscious) and actions (subconscious) and how one can and will justify behavior that

her desire to get herself together to be able to show a good face at work, yet was unable to face her
co workers and work through her depression and grief over her lost relationship she called in sick
even though she was not physically sick.
Explanation
Cognitive Dissonance Theory (delete if there are no others)
According to Leon Festinger (1957), Dissonance and consonance are relations among cognitions
that is, among opinions, beliefs, knowledge of the environment, and knowledge of one s own
actions and feelings. Two opinions, or beliefs, or items of knowledge are dissonant with each other
if they do not fit together (p. 25). When the cognitions are of opposite actions or feelings, they are
dissonant.
Cognitive dissonance can perpetuate a conflict and in Alice s situation, it did. Alice, by definition,
is an honest, hardworking adult with morals and values. However, she encountered a personal
situation with her boyfriend that caused her to have dissonant cognitions. She knew it was wrong
to call her employer and inform them she was ill and unable to go to work. Calling her employer
and lying about her state of health caused discomfort (that is what dissonance does) and to justify
lying, she tries to convince herself she did the right thing. This justification comes

towards men, such as condoms. There were about fifteen different types of condoms across seven
different brands. Trojan was a more prominent brand that was offered at this location. There were
about ten different Trojan condomtypes. Among them were ultra ribbed, fire and ice, bareskin, ultra

Quilt In Colonial America
History and the wide variety cultures has altered the way women quilt.
Quilts in Colonial America resembled their culture and lands from which the quilters had come
from. The wealthy and social prominent settlers in the south began to make patchwork quilts
after the middle class and poor women had been working on patchwork for hundreds of years.
The Puritans brought sturdy fabrics and simple designs, and in northeastern America the colors
were more colorful. Linsey woolsey, also known as woolen bedcovers were not often made as a
staple within the household. The woolen bedcovers were made of a woolen or glazed worsted
fabric dyed in neutral colors as a top layer, with the filling was a soft layer of carded wool; the

The Distinction Of Soul And Body In Socrates s Phaedo
In Phaedo, Socrates uses the soul and body to express the distinction between the forms and
appearances. Socrates describes the soul as divine, deathless, intelligible, uniform, indissoluble,
always the same as itself, whereas the body is most like that which is human, mortal, multiform,
unintelligible, soluble, and never consistently the same (Phaedo 80b). Furthermore, Socrates
believes there is a future awaits men after death (Phaedo 63c) because it might be a relocating for
the soulfrom here to another place (Apology 40d). Socrates believes the one aim of those who
practice philosophy in the proper manner is to practice for dying and death (Phaedo 64a) because
philosophers are stuck in a kind of prison (Phaedo 62b) struggling to acquire knowledge.... Show

Hence, Socrates concludes the living come from the dead in this way no less than the dead from
the living, and, if that is so, it seems to be a sufficient proof that the souls of the dead must be
somewhere whence they can come back again (Phaedo 72a) and as a result, if anyone recollects
anything, he must have known it before (Phaedo 73c). Socrates uses the example of Equal to
demonstrate that we knew the essence of Equal before birth. Knowing the essence allows people
to [realize] that all these objects strive to be like the Equal but are deficient in this (Phaedo 75a).

Jack Frost Short Story
Once upon many a time in an Ice rink, in the North Pole, there was a small boy named Jack
Frost, but goes by Frosty, he was 139 years old which was 16 years in human time, standing at two
feet tall. It was his first time ice skating in his life, Frosty s parents were Canadian guards for Santa.
The father, Anders, was an snowman and the mother, Antonia, was a elf, they both were guards for
Santa for many decades, protecting the reindeer that pull Santa s slay through the air. Frosty was
going to turn 140 on December 24th and he was going to follow in his parent s steps guarding the
reindeer, but then three days after he had turned 54 he got a call from his friend Aksel You are
needed in the ice rink, you are not in any kind of trouble, you are just to come and talk. Frosty then
replied Why, what is happening? Aksel replied with Just come and you will find out what is
happening you need to be here. Later that day, it was 3:00, Frosty was pacing around his room
wondering what this was all about. Twenty minutes passed and he was only five minutes till he
arrived at his destination. It was a time, a group of people approached Frosty. Frosty saw a group
of people with uniforms unsure of what kind or where they had come from, but then Frosty saw
a familiar face, it was Frosty s father Anders! Frosty was then questioned on what he wanted to
do in the Canadian military, he answered I would like to follow in my father s footsteps he
shouted echoing through the rink. Frosty s father was astonished with what Frosty had uttered I
will do whatever it takes to join and I will not give up. Frosty had been waiting for this moment
to be asked to join, Frosty excitedly replied with a strong YES! Six years had passed since he
joined from that day in the rink. Frosty was a in the military, but what he did was almost entirely
different from what he had originally wanted. His father had passed away two years ago during
his training, He was quickly notified about his father s death and was shocked and depressed, but
one day something had made it worse. The Fire Nation had destroyed the town that Frosty had
grown up in, he furiously yelled THIS MEANS WAR! he stormed out of his house to Santa about
the destruction they

Individuals With Disabilities Education Act (IDA)
Mainstreaming Students with Autism
Students with disabilities in the United States won the right to receive an appropriate education in
the least restrictive environment in 1975, with the passage of the Education for All Handicapped
Children Act (P.L. 94 142), now known as the Individuals with Disabilities Education
Improvement Act (IDEA, 2004) (Kurth, p. 249, Marshall, Goodall, 2015). Prior to 1975, millions
of children with disabilities were simply excluded from school...With P.L. 94 192, states were held
accountable for providing an appropriate education in the least restrictive environment to all
students for the first time. Autism, as defined by Individuals with Disabilities Education Act
(IDEA), refers to a developmental disability significantly affecting verbal and nonverbal
communication and social interaction, generally evident before age three, that adversely affects a
child s educational performance (IDEA.ed.gov). Some characteristics include social interaction
difficulties, communication challenges and a tendency to engage in repetitive behaviors.
However, symptoms and their severity vary widely across these three core areas (Heward, chapter

How Accounting Is A Profession
Accounting is a profession that seems to be growing by the day. We were told during the first class
period that employment of accountants is growing 22% from 2008 to 2018. Goes to show that
Accounting is something that everyone needs, and is the backbone of business. Throughout this
semester we have been fortunate enough to have speakers from multiple accounting professions
come talk to us about their professionand what it entails. Tony Batman stood out to me because
he shed a different light on the accounting profession and business in general. Common
perception is that people get into business just to make money. Mr. Batman said something that
will stick with me throughout my entire career that is contrary to the notion of businesses being
around solely for profit. He said that the primary purpose of business is to make people s lives
better . I had never thought of business that way, I had always perceived it as providing a service
for customers but you are actually making their lives better while providing that service. In this
essay I will discuss how things I learned in this class helped guide my future career choice.
The first big question on deciding a career in accounting that was brought up was Public
Accounting vs. Private Accounting. We discussed that Public Accountants were more of service
providers to clients; this could include audit, tax, and advisory service roles that the company
provides to their employers. Most of the speakers that came to talk to us,

Ukraine-Russia Gas Disputes
Ukraine and Russia Gas Conflict
Abstract
In the recent years, the relations between Ukraine and Russia have been hostile. Russia is the
largest producer of gas while Ukraine is the largest importer of the same commodity from Russia.
Gas fro Russia to the EU countries, east and southern Europe passes through the Ukrainian territory
and Russia has to pay transit fee. It is this issue of the supply and prices of gas that precipitated a
very big conflict between the two countries and the impact was felt allover Europe. In this paper, the
historical background of the issue, the current sate of the conflict, the solutions to the conflict; the
future of gas supply and the effects of the 2009 conflict to Europe will be addressed.

This forced Ukrainian companies to make illegal gas diversion from transit pipelines. In 1994,
an intergovernmental agreement was made on the gas issue and it included a clause that stated
that Gazprom would participate in the process of privatization of gas enterprises and others in
other sectors (Nichol and Steven 1 6). It was agreed that Gazprom would take a 51 percent stake
in the pipeline infrastructure. In 1995, the two countries agreed to come up with a cooperative
company that they would call Gaztransit so as to operate the Ukrainian gas assets in exchange
for a debt write off. Neither of the agreements was implemented, in fact, Ukraine adopted a law
called the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine that disallowed the privatization of any gas and oil asset in
Ukraine (Brzezinski and Brzezins 150).
Three years later, Gazprom and Naftohaz established various contracts where Gazprom would
pay for transit with a certain volume of gas creating a link involving gas prices and tariffs for
transit. Nonetheless, this contract never resolved any of the debt disputes and the siphoning of
gas from the pipelines continued. The debt concern was resolved on the fourth of October in the
year 2001 when the additional measures that centered on the transit of Russian gas through
Ukraine was signed by an intergovernmental agreement. By the year 2005, in excess of 70 percent
of Gazprom revenue came form the sale of gas that used to pass via Ukraine. The gas trading

Effective Use Of Dashes In Emily Dickinson s Poetry
The use of dashes in Emily Dickinson s poetry is the most conspicuous indicator of her
nonconformist spirit. The dashes sets her poems apart from other works of poetry and makes them
interesting to read.
Emily Dickinson s use of dashes creates ambiguity in many of her poems, especially poems
already addressing ambiguous subjects (1660). A good example of a poem that is confusing in
subject and effective in using dashes to enhance the ambiguity is Title Divine, is Mine. After
reading line 7, God gives us Women , the understanding becomes uncertain as the next two lines
are read, When you hold Garnet to Garnet / Gold to Gold (1666, 7 9). The dashes used cause the
reader to ask if Dickinson is possibly comparing women to garnet and gold, or speaking to
something deeper. As the reader moves along to line 10, Born Bridalled Shrouded, there is even
more uncertainty because the words can have more than one meaning (1666). Obviously, the use
of wife and bridalled speak of marriage; however, the religious imagery and the use of the word
shrouded lead the reader to greater reflection (1666). Thus, the dashes in Dickinson s poetry
sometimes add more uncertainty to a poems interpretation. ... Show more content on

The pause is meant to be longer than the typical comma or period would require. The dashes
necessitate contemplation; thus, the dashes used by Dickinson convey her pursuit of a truth that
could best be communicated indirectly (1660). Moreover, some of her dashes appear to be used
in place of conjunctions. For example, in Wild Nights Wild Nights! the lines, Futile the winds
/ To a Heart in the port , could have been written as, Futile are the winds / To a Heart in the port
(1670, 5 6). The use of dashes in place of conjunctions encourage the readers to take their time to

Merced City Fire Incident Report
On 05/05/2018 at approximately 2121 hours the Merced City fire department responded to a
residential structure fire at 456 Brimmer Road, Merced, CA 95341. Fire department personnel
arrived on scene and discovered the rear side of the residence was engulfed flames. In the course
of attempting to control the fire, firefighters were able to see grow lights and marijuana in the
rooms of the residence. The fire department contacted the Merced Police Department to
investigate. Merced Police Officers contacted the Merced Area Gang and Narcotic Enforcement
Team (M.A.G.N.E.T.) Sergeant Rodney Court. Sergeant Court told me the entire back side of the
residence was destroyed, and that the back two rooms were used to cultivate marijuana. Sergeant
Court also told me there were another 100 80 marijuana plants being cultivated in the front two
rooms of the residence. Sergeant Court also told me he saw grow lights, electrical cords, fans and
air filters inside the residence, all consistent with an indoor marijuana cultivation site. Sergeant
Court also told me that fire department officials believed there could possibly be an electrical

The Food Industry And Its Impact On The Society
Half a century ago, farm animals were raised on open fields, breathing fresh air, and grazing on
pastures. Today, over 99% of farm animals in the U.S. are raised in industrialized factory farms,
which focus on profit and efficiency as opposed to the animal s welfare. The industry has forgotten
the importance of the animals health and wellbeing and has become obsessed with profit to the
point that it is negatively impacting the animals in the industry. The food industry needs to be
reformed to return the focus of the farms to the animals in order to protect them from cruel and
inhumane treatment or practices. The wide open fields that farmanimals used to be raised on are a
thing of the past. In order for the factory farms to make more profit, they confine the animals to
limited space because the less room they take up, the higher their profit to land ratio is. Of all the
animals, chickens by far suffer the most when it comes to space and confinement, the chickens live
crammed together...because they live in their own waste, high ammonia levels irritate and burn
their eyes, throats and skin (ASPCA). The factory farms are not concerned with the comfort or
health of the chickens because it does not affect their profit. A sore throat or sores on the surface
of their skin will not change their value. Chickens are not alone in this. At just two to three weeks
old, piglets are removed from their mothers and placed in large, windowless sheds without fresh air,

Shadow And Bone Essay
Shadow and Bone is a story about a girl who discovers she has mysterious powers. The story
takes place in the Seventeen Hundreds when there was no modern technology. The protagonist
is named Alina, a mapmaker. She lives in a land named Ravka, a corrupt Kingdom run by a
tyrant King. Alina s journey starts when her and her best friend Mal an excellent tracker have to
enter a dangerous wasteland called The Unsea also known as The Fold. The Fold splits Ravka
into two parts. In order to get to the other side, you must make your way through this strip of
land. There are deadly creatures lurking in The Fold, they are called Volcra and they are well
known for attacking anything that crosses their path. The Fold is a sandy barren wasteland that is

They are prepared to fight to the death. The song I chose for this scene is Two by Twenty One
Pilots. This song deals with loss and apprehensiveness. This correlates extremely well to this
scene. While they travel through the Fold, there are many other people known as Grisha s that
have special powers. Some have the power to make water appear out of nowhere and use it
against others, such as creating a tidal wave and flooding areas, killing others along with it. Some
can heal wounds extremely fast, and some can even fight faster and more efficiently than others.
Many Grisha s were brought along on the journey to protect people with no powers. About half
way through the Fold, they start to hear alarming noises in the distance so everyone prepares to
fight. A large group of Volcra attack them. All of the Grisha s start using their powers to protect the
group, trying their best to fight off the Volcra. In the book this scene is very dramatic and

Metropolitan Individuality
Everything changed after money. Small changed in the metropolis change everything, like
George Simmel supported. It s like living in a jinga. The money is one of these small things that
change the way of living life and their attitude in the public. Money is the all reason of change in
people s daily lives which also create new classes such as burgeoise. Metropolitan individuality is
di erent which is more intellectual, rational. 18th century liberation changed all the balance and
understanding of money, way of using money and the reason of its devaluation. While the
metropolis people are more forced and isolated, it might be easy for them to balance but the small
change can alter everything in the big circle.

Modernity brings more control in people s life so that s the side of burgeoise like Loos explained.
The connection with the city, the market and art become a cycle that a ects each others and brings
more obsession to money. It might not be mentioned in any text but this obsession to money and
unhealthy thinking of being attached to something might be the next level of American Dream
where people focus on one thing without having the purpose and controlled by something or
someone. However there is an another class in the public that use the ornament. Ornament wasn t
expressed individuality in burgeoise but in the degenerate and criminal side of the public,
ornament(tattoos) is more like a ban that people have. It s already in the individual which is
already the opposite part of burgeoise. Ornament is no longer the production and expression of
culture like in the metropolis stories but it s more an object to evoke degeneration. Prisoners or
criminals started to name with the ornament di erent than ornament is being utilitarian object. So
according to two di erent texts of Loos , expression of ornament in di erent people and di erent
parts of the society create an distinction in the public that leads more to shape to people s moralism

Snowy owls tend to be like other owls in that they are monogamous and mate for life. They are
fiercely protective of their nests and breeding area. They will go so far as to attack wolves if
they believe them to be a threat ( Snowy Owl , 2012). This extreme protection does not just stop
with their own nest. They create an unintentional benefit to dark bellied brent geese who nest
close to snowy owls for the protection of their own nests. The closer these geese place their
nests to the snowy owl s nest the safer they are as well as if their nest is far from the snowy owl
nest there is more danger and thus a higher chance of nest abandonment. The more protection these
geese have the larger the number and size of their eggs as well (van Kleef, Willems, Volkov,
Smeets, Nowak, amp; Nowak, 2007).
The average clutch (number of eggs) size is between three and eleven depending on the
population density of their food source that year. When there is a particularly lean year in food
source some owl pairs never mate and do not produce a clutch. Females will incubate the eggs
while the male provides food and protection. The eggs are laid only one every other day. The
incubation period is about 32 days and the young do not leave the nest until they are about 25 days
old. The young do not fly very well until

How would the world be a better place if everyone lived up to the value presented? This world
today in my opinion could use some manners. If everyone was to be more polite to one another,
our world would be doing bigger and better things then it already has been. Being polite is simply
the act of showing good manners to someone, it s really not that hard to use your please and
thank you, or to even just give a nice little comment to someone. Another right thing to do is to
be kind; holding the door, help someone carries stuff if his or her hands are full, complementing

from the English East India Company outline the practice of trade in the Indian Ocean and South
Asia from the late 1400s to the mid 1700s. During this time, Western societies had a greater impact
on the South Asiasocieties than vice versa. In the early 1500s, Fernandez de Figueroa reached

Since horses where not native in Vijayanagar and had a short life span, they were imported from
Hormuz and Cambay. By the numbers of foreign animals, it is clear that trade was very popular in
this region of South Asia. Lastly, letters from the English East India Company reveal the
importance of pepper trade in the mid 1700s. Starting out in 1734, trade appeared to be slow in
the Indonesian islands of Sumatra and Borneo. The letter to the Sultan Gondam Shan was more
laid back and less aggressive than latter letters to that region. Another letter sent that year went
into detail about how the English did not want to pay a higher price for the pepper since it would
not be worth it. Additionally, this letter questions why Sumatras would want to visit England,
putting it off as an unpleasant place. These two early letters show that trade was not very
prominent at the time. A later letter in 1740 shows a different story; trade dealing with guns and
gunpowder in exchange for pepper emerged. This is important because the island nations needed a
constant supply of gunpowder so it promoted trade between the two. In the last document dated
1744, the East India Company offers to send a ship to protect these nations if they so desire to
increase the trade of pepper. Once again, this commitment by the English shows an increase in trade
between the West and Southern Asia. A general trend can be followed that trade started on the

Progressives knew of the terrible conditions that many laborers were going through in factories
and workplaces across America, and they rose up to the challenge of fighting against them. While
Progressives reformers worked for change in many different areas, the improvement of society was
one of their most important goals. In terms of society, Progressive reformers wanted to focus on
three specific areas. These areas were education, sanitation in tenements or housing, and
conservation of the environment (heritage.org). Progressives wanted education to be based on
hands on learning, and that experience is the best teacher (Hayes). John Dewey and some others
created a form of Progressive education that was based on teaching young kids how to live along
with other knowledge (Hayes). Sanitation for many of the crowded tenements in urban areas was
lacking (Caswell). Muckraker Jacob Riis looked to change this and with the publishing of his book
How the Other Half Lives (1890), New York and some other states began to pass building safety
codes such as the New York State Tenement Housing Act (Caswell). The conservation movement
that commenced because of the Progressive party would not have been successful without
Theodore Roosevelt. Roosevelt and John Muir together were able to alter the public s view of
American lands (memory.loc.gov). Roosevelt worked together with Congress to pass many acts

In fact, if the ban is proposed, they can just walk into a local movie theater buy some popcorn.
Instead of watching a movie, which anybody that buys popcorn would usually do, the students
can just walk outside, and eat the popcorn outside near their college. The NYPD states that they
say that they will ban on college city dorms. It didn t state off campus apartments or any other
place that isn t college, so it defeats the purpose as college students will find another way to get
popcorn. Alongside the location problem, another conundrum of this ban will arise. The second
problem is that since the popcorn ban is in dorms, how are they going to enforce them? Most
law officers will help train the RAs in the dorms and residence halls. If passed, the undeniable
truth is that they will teach them how to deal with people having popcorn, but how much are
they going to trust them? If this goes into effect, a possible opposite effect will happen. Due to
RAs having classes alongside the college students living in the dorms. Officers can t keep an eye
on RAs because they are diligent with their classwork throughout the day. Alongside this,
authorities also can t come into the dorms to search popcorns if the RAs are unreachable without
a warrant and having the privacy of students taken away due to random search and seizure.

these so called popcorn perpetrators . While it is true

Nazi Nationalism
The Rise of the Racial State Nationalism, the idea that people have a specific identity, which often
leads to the desire or creation of an independent state, arose in the 19th century after the

individual rights and representative government. Eastern European countries attempted to adopt
this form of nationalism around the 1850s, yet the movement failed. This prompted a shift towards
a more conservative, romantic nationalism. This romantic nationalism tended to focus more on the

Civil War which followed one man in ten were killed. Many people died of starvation. Others
had their house, their land or all their possessions destroyed. How had the situation come about
where Englishmen were prepared to fight against each other, and even against members of their
own families ? Charles s reign started off badly, in 1625 Charles married a French Catholic
princess, Henrietta Maria. This was very unpopular since Parliament questioned the religion of
Charles s children especially if they were brought up by a Catholic mother. In 1629, Charles tried
to dissolve Parliament. He then ruled without them for eleven years, until 1640. Some historians
say that his policies during this time were very unpopular. One method he used was the Ship
Money Tax . Coastal counties had to pay tax to help improve the Navy during times of warfare. In
1634, Charles demanded Ship Money Tax although England weren t... Show more content on

Many people think that the story of the Gunpowder Plot was a conspiracy theory. Do you agree ?
Mini Essay In 1605, a group of young and angry Catholics decided that they had enough of King
James I, and decided to take over the kingdom of England. They planned to destroy the Protestant
government by murdering the most important men in the kingdom. Many people since think that
the Gunpowder Plot was a conspiracy theory to make the Catholics even more unpopular in society.
Others think that the traditional story that they had been taught for generations was true. In order to
find out we have to consider the actions that make the Gunpowder Plot look like a conspiracy
theory and the traditional story. Firstly it is important to understand the traditional story. A group of
Catholics were angry with King James and wanted to assaninate him. They decided to blow up the
House of Lords when the most important when where in it. They brought some gunpowder and

Dante s Journey Of Salvation
As Dante makes his ascent through hell and purgatory, he is guided by two figures. The first is
Virgil, who saves him from peril and accompanies him, as a friend, through the layers of both
afterlifes. The second is Beatrice, who inspired Dante s journey of salvation in the first place, and
who he longs to be reunited with. Yet although these guides are leading him towards God, Dante
mistakes their guiding as the end itself. He makes a God of Beatrice, sees her as the ultimate good
towards which one strives, and makes a Jesusof Virgil, the man through whom this ultimate good is
reached. In this way, Dante creates his own trinity, much to the detriment of his ascent to the True
God.
His first mistake, through which the others stem, is equating Beatrice to God. While she was alive,
her beautiful eyes and lovely limbs were the only things keeping him on the holy path. This is clear
when he confesses Things set in front of me, / with their false delights, turned back my steps / the
moment that Your countenance was hidden (Purgatorio.31.34 36). He could have avoided traveling
through the afterlifes had he not overvalued her in the first place. In fact, even when he is
promised redemption through his journey, it takes Virgil mentioning Beatrice as the end goal of
his journey to persuade Dante to begin the undertaking (Inferno.2.57 126). Dante still sees
Beatrice, rather than God, as the end towards which he strives. For her sake alone he goes down
into the deepest pits of

Queen Elizabeth As A Ruler For England
Even today, there are many who doubt the capability of a woman in a position of authority. When
Elizabeth was appointed the Queen of England in a Constitutional Monarchy, many subjects of
the English state did not respect her. This was in part due to her sister Mary s previous failings
as a ruler for England, as well as misogynistic assumptions about a woman s ability to rule that
were especially prevalent at this time in Western Europe. Throughout her 50 years of reign,
Elizabeth not only managed to assert herself as a cunning and capable leader and Queen, but also
gained the love of the English people. It was through the way Elizabeth saw herself as a religious
figure that she accomplished this feat. Although Queen Elizabeth used masculine traits to assert
dominance, she saw that it was her femininitythat gave her the real advantage by creating her image
after the Virgin Mary.
Since she began her reign, Queen Elizabeth was highly aware that portraying aspects of masculinity
would be beneficial to gaining the respect of her subjects. When England was awaiting a
possible invasion by the Spanish Armada, the state of England s defenses was poor and the
outlook was grim. In spite of this, Elizabeth personally delivered an inspiring speech to the
troops, and in the process took on a masculine role by doing so. I myself will take up arms, I myself
will be your general, judge, and rewarder ( Speech to the Troops at Tillbury ). She tells her
warriors that when they need her the

Case Study The Atlantic Division
A Divisional Previews The Atlantic Division 1. Boston Celtics With the big offseason
acquisition of Al Horford, the Celtics are hoping to change their recent playoff history; the last
two seasons have been two one and done, getting swept by the Cavaliers and losing to the
Hawks in six respectively. A big hole that the previous two Celtics team had was at the center
position. Night in and night out, the center position was among the worst in terms of
production. With Al Horford now on the roster that hole is presumably filled. No longer will
Celtics fans have to rely on the often out of shape Jared Sullinger to bang down low against the
much bigger, more athletic big men that opposing team s possess. The presence of Horford also
clarifies Kelly Olynyk s role with the team Prior to Horford s arrival, Olynyk was in and out of

out about his team is who is the definitive second unit point guard. With Terry Rosier, Marcus

Keeping End Of Life Care
Introduction
Bringing end of life care back into the community, specifically into home, is a patient centered and
cost effective option which provides an essentially holistic and comfortable environment for the
dying and their families. The purpose of this paper will be to examine how bringing end of life care
back into the community positively impacts patients, their families, the nurses in charge of their
care and the relationships that are facilitated as well as provide an overview of the cost
effectiveness of this type of health care. Keeping end of life care in home when possible, makes it

defined safety and care plan which helps in reducing some of the stressors that the family may
experience during the palliative period of their loved one. As care progresses, the relationship
built with the health care team, specifically nurses, becomes paramount to ensuring patient
comfort. Community nurses have the advantage of really getting to know their patients,
intimately and medically, ensuring that they are able to deliver the best of care. When a nurse is
able to immerse herself in the home environment of her patient, it allows her to develop a deeper
and more intimate rapport with the dying patient and their families. This creates a higher
satisfaction in the level of care that is being received. In a study published by Karlsson, Edberg,

My Dad s heart attack.
You ever sit there and get that weird feeling in your gut ? That feeling that something isn t right ?
Yeah it sucks waking up to that feeling and having it the whole day. It turns out something wasn

your average text. It was a text that would make your heart drop down to your stomach. The text
said hey dads in the hospital, I don t know what s wrong but Herman and Danielle are there already

my mind made me start to panick. My friends started to worry so they tried their best to keep me
calm until I left school. Finally school was over.
As I was picked up the bad thoughts started to run through my head again, this time it seem like
it was worse. The closer we got to the hospital the more I became weak. I didn t know what to

to the emergency room, I walked into a lobby full of family, as I walked in my brother got me up

anticipation for the doctor to deliver the news. As hours passed we finally got to talk to a nurse.
She told us that the doctor would be coming out soon to get us updated with what s wrong with my

Essay on Sino-American Relations
Sino American Relations I. Introduction The American President Nixon s historic trip to China in
February 1972 marked the beginning of a new era in Sino American relations. For the first time
since 1949, the two countries established high level official contacts and transformed their
relationship from confrontation to collaboration. Over the following twenty years, however, U.S.
China relations have experienced repeated cycles of progress, stalemate, and crisis, with the events
in Tiananmen Square in June 1989 the most recent and disruptive example. Indeed, although
relations between the two countries are greatly more extensive today than they were twenty years
ago, they remain highly problematic. Yet the obstacles are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

From 1949 to 1969, it is the period of ideological conflict. The international environment,
especially the occurrence of Korean War and the movement of the American Seventh Fleet into
the Taiwan Strait caused the conflicts between the 2 different ideologies become more serious.
In the battlefield in Korea, the two nations even act as enemies. Although in the early 60s
President John Kennedy considered open a dialogue with China but China and her leader s
increasingly anti imperialist rhetoric caused US s initiative to failure. To make a summary of
this period, movement towards better relationship made little progression and there had no way

Vietnam War to prohibit. The second period was from 1968 to 1989 and is so called the
normalization of the two nation. Since the Soviet Union invade the Czechislovakia, China s
leader Mao realized the end of isolation and gave a signal of reopen of dialogue with Washington.
The American President Nixon read the signals right and soon the two nations become strategic

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Al Gore s An Inconvenient Truth
In An Inconvenient Truth , Al Gore begins to express his goal towards his audience on the topic
of global warming. This issue was Al Gore s main focus throughout the entirety of the video, and
was explained thoroughly while ethos and pathos was used as a tool to connect with the audience.
Gore uses ethos as a tool to concern global warmingas more of an ethical and moral motivation
rather than a political one. Throughout the video, Gore uses great amounts of information based on
the issues of global warming and its great disadvantages. Issuing this, Gore uses pathos in order to
get his point across on how the Earthand life on it might be affected. Due to Gore s audience being
younger minded non scientists, Gore stated his arguments on global warming by creating a
humorous cartoon video which gave more of an easier explanation on the serious matter. Gore
continues to give explanations by also relating back into his past life experiences. In the opening of
the documentary, Gore introduces himself in more of a humble and humorous manner. By showing

The Effects Of Uv Light Protection On The Microbial...
A small amount of research has been conducted on air as a habitat compared to other environments
such as soil, water, and sediments (1). Air makes up the atmosphere and is composed of
approximately 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, .93 % argon, and .038% carbon dioxide (http:/
/www.space.com/17683 earth atmosphere.html). In addition, air carries dust particles, pollutants
and plant grains. Air presents a hostile environment for the sustaining of metabolically active and
reproducing microbes. The air is composed of UV radiation, which results in the development of
UV light protection in the microbial populations that reside in this environment (1). Due to the
conditions of air, microbes that inhabit air are capable of adapting to wider pH ranges. They are
also capable of living in a wide range of temperatures due to varying altitudes (1). A majority of
microbes that inhabit the air are in the Proteobacteria, Firmicutes, and Actinobacteria phylum.
These microbes include, Pseudomonas syringae, Pantoea agglomerans, Propionibacterium acnes,
Agrobacterium tumefaciens and Sphingomonas echnoides (2).
A majority of the diversity of air is misunderstood by ecologist. Yet, the limited amount of research
conducted on the diversity of the atmosphere supports that air is highly diverse. Samples taken
from the atmosphere were dominated by plant and bacteria related sequences, indicating a highly
variable 16sRNA gene diversity (2). When samples are taken from the atmosphere, there is a trend

Buddhism Is A Religion And Philosophy Essay
Buddhism is a religion and philosophy based on the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama. It is the
oldest and fourth largest religion in the world with around 500 million followers. Buddhism focuses
on teaching people how to come to terms with and end the suffering of themselves and others by
cutting out greed, hatred, and ignorance from their lives. Unlike most major world religions,
Buddhismdoes not revolve around worshiping a god or divine creator, instead the focus of
Buddhism is living one s best life and transforming the lives of others. The ultimate goal of
Buddhism is to reach Enlightenment and upon death achieve Nirvana, the liberation of pain and
suffering. For Buddhists, it is the individual s responsibility to find his or her own path to
enlightenment; the principles of Buddhism are seen more as guidelines than rules.
Siddhartha Gautama was born between 563 and 480 BCE as the prince of Lumbini (in what is
now Nepal). His mother died in either in childbirth or shortly thereafter and and his father was left
to raise him. During his birth celebrations, it was predicted that Siddhartha would either become a
great king or a great spiritual leader. His father wanted him to take over the throne, so he avoided
religious teachings and sheltered him from suffering. Siddhartha, unsatisfied with with the life he
was leading and yearning to learn about the world, he left his home at twenty nine to seek the true
meaning of life. On his travels he saw an old man, a diseased man,

Essay on The Stakeholder Theory by Thomas Donaldson
A stake holder, in general is defined as an individual or organization likely affected by the
performance of an organization. In The stakeholder theory of the corporation: Concepts, evidence,
and implications by Thomas Donaldson , he quotes Stanford research institution and calls stake
holders those groups without whose support the organization would cease to exist.
Therefore a stakeholder can be thought of as some who both influences and is influenced by an
organization. According to Greasley (1999, p9) there are 3 types of stake holders: internal,
connected and external.
Internal stakeholders are described as the managers and employees of a company. Connected

However, for this scenario it will be assumed that the stakeholder concept stands, and hence will
assume the stakeholder concept is infallible.
It will be assumed that the large mining company is publicly owned and is situated a more
economically developed country (MEDC). Therefore the company will have significantly weaker
influence from the government than a government owned company. It will also imply that trade
unions associated with the company will likely be strong, hence workers will have higher
influence than they would in a less economically developed country (LEDC) where unions would
be weaker .
The above assumptions will also help in identifying stakeholders within the mining company;
stakeholders will be divided up into the 3 defined in Greasley (1999, p9).
Firstly, internal stakeholders, those connected directly to the firm. This group include will account
for anyone working within the firm. In the context of the mining company, this includes people like
miners, even jobs like those of a janitor in the building. However, it is important to note that it also
involves much more powerful stakeholders like senior management, who play a large role in the
decisions made by the company.
Connected stakeholders, will include groups like shareholders, customers and suppliers

Motives For Colonization In New England And Chesapeake...
New England and the Chesapeake Region were both settled primarily by people of English origin,
however, by 1700 they had both transformed into two unique societies. This is because their
motives for colonization, their geographies, and their governments were all different. For example,
the New England colonies typically had much harsher winters than the Chesapeake region and their
people came to America to escape religious persecutionin their mother country. On the other hand,
the people of the Chesapeake region experienced warmer summers and came there in search of
gold. As previously stated, different motives for colonization were partially responsible for
transforming the New Englandand Chesapeake regions into two unique societies. The New England
colonies were formed for religious reasons whereas the colonies of the Chesapeake region were
formed for economic purposes. To emphasize, the people that settled in the New England colonies
had been previously punished by their king, Henry VIII, for being non anglican and in turn they
left the church of England for the Netherlands (they became known as separatists due to how they
separated themselves from the Church). The Netherlands didn t happen to work out for the
separatists, so they went to the New World and settled in the New England region. Based on this, it
could also be said that the separatists were seeking permanent settlement (as they wanted to escape
religious persecution) whereas those in the Chesapeake region

Literary Analysis: The Verdict
People delegate important personal aspects of their lives to professionals, but not without the risks
of unethical behaviors. The word Professional makes one think of wealth and power, which can
result in corruption; winning by any means necessary. In the movie The Verdict, Frank Galvin plays
a lawyer who has reduced himself to being a drunken ambulance chaser (Brown, Harris, Zanuck,

He was compelled to make their wrong right and did so by taking the case to trial. He viewed
this as a way to turn his life and career around by doing what was right, but he discovers quickly
that Ed Concannon was always one step ahead and through many corrosive acts almost derails
Frank s case.
The Prince of Darkness Ed Concannon is a distinguished and deceitful lawyer defending the
hospital and doctors Towler and Marks. There would be no one to stand in his way of another
victory; he pays off witnesses and hired Laura Fischer, who sought out Frank romantically to get
insight into his strategies. Laura fell hard for Frank and her deceitful actions became more than she
could handle. She let Ed Concannon know and he said to her:
I m going to tell you something that I learned when I was your age. I had prepared a case and old
man White asked me, How did you do? I said, I did my best. He said, You re not paid to do your
best; you re paid to win! (Mamet, 1982, p. 59)
Ed Concannon viewed his client s as fomites that he could manipulate for profit rather than do what
is right. His approach to law was unethical both morally and professionally, but the most
contentious view of Concannon s ethical behavior was his callous views of justice.

They found out that female and male leaders have equal concern for the task. However, women
manifest more concern for an interpersonal relationship than men (Eagly and
Johannesen‐Schmidt, 2001). Moreover, using Blake and Mouton (1964) framework, women
show a more democratic (or participative) style, which facilitates collaboration, and less autocratic
(or directive) style, that don t enhance followers creativity. Thus, according to the contemporary
standard, women manifested more appropriate traits for being an effective leader.
Furthermore, Eagly and Carli (2003) also conclude that female leader were more transformational

Conversely, male leaders were more likely to involve two other aspects of transactional
leadership which are active management by exception (waiting for a follower s mistake to

solving it). Men also show a relatively high interest in laissez faire leadership. That different

  • 2. The International Organization For Migration The migration crisis has reached a level where Europe must take a stand and must present a viable plan, expressing the future goals the European government believes will help solves this crisis. The International Organization for Migration said, between January and November 2015 more than 750,000 migrants are predicted to arrive in Europefrom across the Mediterranean. As a union, Europe is showing the world that they are not a cohesive organization prepared to face the future with respects to the mass migration. The policy concerning migration at the European Unionlevel states that each nation has the right to their own migration policies, while adhering to the European migration institutions, which are not fully established. So far, many of the migrants coming to Europe are settling in Italy and Greece; many hope to be able to reach Germany as their final destination. The important underlining problem is the fact that these migrants are arriving and staying in Italy and Greece. Both Italy and Greece are going through an economic crisis that cannot sustain the migrants that are landing within their borders; they are asking the European Union to give them relief, by imposing quotas to redistribute the migrants to other European nations that are a part of the migration policy. The migrant crisis also brings insecurity to nations such as Italy and Greece because of they are not prepared to deal with the amount of people entering in their borders. • 4. The Homelessness Problem Of Homelessness Homelessness has been an sociological issue for a very long time now. It seems to be a rising issue all over the country. Here in the Portland, Oregon area, we are very lucky. This is a wonderful place to live. Socially, we accept everyone no matter what you look like or believe in. Our mantra is Keep Portland Weird. Honestly, from a sociological standpoint, there are not that many issues, however there is one that is growing and is becoming a major problem. In Portland, we have a major homelessnessproblem. On top of the homeless issues there is a growing indifference towards the homeless issue from the rest of the population. People just do not seem to care about the homeless here in Portland. We see them so much it is almost like we are used to them and we do not think about it. We just walk right by, indifferent. Some are annoyed by the homeless here, most seem to act like they are invisible. The homeless are people too, they should be treated with dignity. In the past year or so, around 2 million people were left homeless and this is sure to continue to rise over the next few years. No one really knows why this is the way it is. Some factors that could cause homelessness are losing a job, not being able to find a job, low wages, too many bills, various disabilities, and lack of affordable housing and help. The term homelessness means people who do not have a home. The issue needs to be looked at in many different angles. Homelessness can be looked at through the eyes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Fluoride Decline Introduction Fluoride is the ionic form of the element fluorine and is the 13th most abundant element in the earth s crust. Chemically, fluoride is negatively charged and combines with positive ions to form stable compounds such as calcium fluoride or sodium fluoride. Such fluorides are released into the environment naturally in the form of both water and air. Generally, when the term fluorideis mentioned, thoughts associated with calcified tissues (i.e., bones and teeth) are provoked. This is likely due to fluoride s high affinity for calcium, enabling its ability to inhibit or even reverse the initiation and progression of dental caries, otherwise known as tooth decay. Caries are an infectious, multifactorial disease afflicting most persons... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Classified amongst other neurotoxic chemicals, fluoride, when administered at high levels, has the potential to cause neurotoxicity in adults and can result in negative impacts on memory and learning according to rodent study reports. • 8. What Is Proactive Interference Introduction By the age of seven, reading is an activity many children are well accustomed to. With the amount of time most individuals have been reading, this task is relatively easy. Yet, there are still instances in which we are reading a novel, a magazine, or even a simple text message, and we simply cannot manage to remember what we read. This is event is due to interference. Interference theory states that there are two forms of interference that can hinder our ability to properly encode information into our memory (Bergstrom 1892), proactive interference and retroactive interference. When reading, however, visual interference can play a large part in disrupting out learning process. In the experiment commonly known for the development ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A controlled process is a task which is new or unique to the person. It is serial, takes heavy demands on attention, requires conscious efforts to direct attention towards the task and is slow. Whereas an automatic process is a task which has already been learned. It can be parallel, makes no demands on attention, does not need conscious direction of attention towards the task and is fast. This implies that when we are presented with a word, the action of stating its color is a relatively new task compared to the already learnt behavior to read just words. Therefore, reading is seen as the automatic process which interferes with the slower controlled process of stating the color. With the alteration of the original Stroop Effect experiment, the automaticity model is discredited due to the fact that instead of stating the word the participant points at the observed color instead. This nonverbal response, pointing at the color, is not believed to be an automatic process, thus the automaticity model is questioned when researchers note an interference in the speed of processing in incongruently colored ... • 9. Speech On Integrity Integrity, as we all may know,is not a joke. Something many people take very seriously. I would hope you all would know the definition of integrity, if not I guess it would be helpful to tell you. Integrity in the internet s perspective is the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness, the state of being whole and undivided. In my Perspective Integrityis being able to be honest and true, to not just yourself but everyone that s in your surroundings as well. There is another version of integrity and that is self Integrity which is known as the process of knowing your self, a process of self sought but never completed. Honesty is the state imposed by others, which is somewhat connected to self integrity. Integrity is how a person will live their life however they please. In this crazy thing we call life, we tend to face many choices every single day that not only can we personally answer but everyone can answer as well. Integrity is doing the right thing versus the wrong thing, and I am not saying that any of the definitions are incorrect, but what I am portraying is that everybody s definitionis different, and will always be different. Now let s talk about this topic called Honesty. I would hope this word stands out to all of you, because this is not something little. This is a strong word. This word carries a lot of work. There is no other way to explain it other than be truthful, and not lying. Whether or not you are an honest person ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of the major conflicts between the Pueblo Indians and the Spanish colonists was their different religions. Many historians believe that the Pueblo Indians revolted against the Spanish in order to eliminate Catholicism because it was threatening their own beliefs. Many Spanish officials interpret the Pueblo Revolt as being unnecessary and guided by the devil. Many of those documents, however, were destroyed during the Pueblo Revolt when the natives burned down government buildings and records. However, previously to the Pueblo Revolt, Spanish government officials had sent out reports which shed a light on the relations between Spaniards and Pueblo Indians prior to the revolt. With new understanding of popular Indian beliefs, historians are now able to adjust the one sided interpretations that European nations developed when documenting their relationship with the natives. Historians who are well informed of popular Indian beliefs, have interpreted the Pueblo Revolt was an act to reject Catholicism because it was threatening their own culture. The Pueblo Revolt was an attempt to preserve the kind of life which they thought the gods had ordained and which aliens were obviously destroying (Weber, 1999, p. 227). Ironically, this quote from President Donald Trump stated on January 23, 2016 at a rally in Iowa coincides with his continuous claims that immigrants are a danger to our country because of their risk of terrorism. In 1790, Congress adopted a uniform law so that any ВЁfree white personВЁ could apply for citizenship after two years of residency. In 1868, nearly 80 years later, African Americans gained citizenship to the United States with the Fourteenth Amendment. According to Charles Gordon, Former Deputy General Counsel of the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service, ВЁAlthough there was no contemporaneous Congressional expression to clarify the legislative intent, it seems clear that the racial limitation [of the law] was designed to exclude two categories: (1) chattel slaves, both Negro and White, and (2) Indians. Both groups evidently were deemed unfit for participation in full political privilege. The designation of free white persons as the sole group eligible for naturalization continued without change for eighty years. • 12. Summary Of Soledad Brother By George Jackson Hope is a Necessity In a world that is so unpredictable, sometimes there is nothing else that a person can do to make a situation better besides hoping for a good outcome. Hope can have a big impact on the way people view the world, and can potentially save lives. Hope is communicated in many ways, including a variety of art forms, such as literature. Some examples of literature that show how powerful having hope can be are the novel Soledad Brother by George Jackson, the short storySalvation by Langston Hughes, the short story Superheroes, Just for Each Other by Peter S. Goodman and the article Man Needs Hope to Live, by Christopher Kaczor. These literary works show that even the smallest bit of hope can help a person make wiser decisions regarding his or her future, but having no hope for the future leads people to make choices that are ethically wrong. Soledad Brother by George Jackson is a piece of literature that shows that hope can sway a person s decision about the actions that he or she takes. The novel is written in the stream of consciousness writing style. All the letters that Jackson writes show that he has hatred towards the system in which he is living in. Jackson was sentenced to one year to life in jail. Even though Jackson has some repulsive thoughts about the police officers and their ideas, he does nothing to express his opinion about the police officers, such as starting an argument or fight with the police officers, because he has hope that if ... We suddenly saw something floating in the distance. It appeared to be an enemy ship approaching, but as it was drawn further in by the rolling tide, we could make out outlines of a human figure. Slowly but surely the waves pushed the mysterious being onto the shore. We dragged him over to the sand. Water began to sprout from his mouth like a newly dug up spring. The village was made up of only twenty odd wooden houses that had stone courtyards with no flowers and which were spread about on the end of a desert like cape. There was so little land that mothers always went about with the fear that the wind would carry off their children and the few dead that the years had caused among them had to be thrown off the cliffs. But the sea was calm and bountiful and all the men fitted into seven boats. So when we found the drowned man we simply had to look at one another to see that we were all there. That night the men did not work at sea. While the men went to find out if anyone was missing in neighboring villages, the women stayed behind to care for the drowned man. The woman took the mud off with grass swabs, they removed the underwater stones entangled in his hair, and washed him with soap and water. As they were doing that we noticed that the vegetation on him came from faraway oceans and that his clothes were in tatters, as if he had sailed through labyrinths of coral. But only when they finished cleaning him off did we become aware of the kind of man he was and it left them breathless. He was the tallest, strongest, most virile, and best built man we had ever seen. We could not find a bed in the village large enough to lay him on nor was there a table solid enough to use for him. Everything that has happened to Harry has occurred because of Dumbledore, but does that make him purely Dumbledore s boy or is he his own person with agency to do as he wants? After Voldemort murdered Harry s parents, Dumbledore decided to bring baby Harry to his aunt and uncles because they re the only family he has left now, and he feels it s the best place for him (Sorcerer s Stone). Dumbledore is the one that decided to send him to his relatives that underfed him, gave him only a closet, hand me down clothes, become their servant, and be bullied by his cousin Dudley. Later we learn Dumbledore sent him there because of the protection of his family since his aunt was his mother s sister. The protection meant if Voldemort came back and tried to attack Harry in his aunt and uncle s home he wouldn t be able to touch Harry there, but that doesn t justify the actions of his aunt and uncle. For eleven years, Harry was left in the dark about his parents and magic. Dumbledore was the first person to ever show Harry any sort of positive emotion or caring attribute, which could lead to Harry becoming the servant of Dumbledore. Explanation Cognitive Dissonance Theory (delete if there are no others) According to Leon Festinger (1957), Dissonance and consonance are relations among cognitions that is, among opinions, beliefs, knowledge of the environment, and knowledge of one s own actions and feelings. Two opinions, or beliefs, or items of knowledge are dissonant with each other if they do not fit together (p. 25). When the cognitions are of opposite actions or feelings, they are dissonant. Socrates describes the soul as divine, deathless, intelligible, uniform, indissoluble, always the same as itself, whereas the body is most like that which is human, mortal, multiform, unintelligible, soluble, and never consistently the same (Phaedo 80b). Furthermore, Socrates believes there is a future awaits men after death (Phaedo 63c) because it might be a relocating for the soulfrom here to another place (Apology 40d). Throughout this semester we have been fortunate enough to have speakers from multiple accounting professions come talk to us about their professionand what it entails. Tony Batman stood out to me because he shed a different light on the accounting profession and business in general. Common perception is that people get into business just to make money. Mr. Batman said something that will stick with me throughout my entire career that is contrary to the notion of businesses being around solely for profit. He said that the primary purpose of business is to make people s lives better . In 1994, an intergovernmental agreement was made on the gas issue and it included a clause that stated that Gazprom would participate in the process of privatization of gas enterprises and others in other sectors (Nichol and Steven 1 6). It was agreed that Gazprom would take a 51 percent stake in the pipeline infrastructure. In 1995, the two countries agreed to come up with a cooperative company that they would call Gaztransit so as to operate the Ukrainian gas assets in exchange for a debt write off. Neither of the agreements was implemented, in fact, Ukraine adopted a law called the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine that disallowed the privatization of any gas and oil asset in Ukraine (Brzezinski and Brzezins 150). Three years later, Gazprom and Naftohaz established various contracts where Gazprom would pay for transit with a certain volume of gas creating a link involving gas prices and tariffs for transit. • 27. Effective Use Of Dashes In Emily Dickinson s Poetry The use of dashes in Emily Dickinson s poetry is the most conspicuous indicator of her nonconformist spirit. The dashes sets her poems apart from other works of poetry and makes them interesting to read. Emily Dickinson s use of dashes creates ambiguity in many of her poems, especially poems already addressing ambiguous subjects (1660). A good example of a poem that is confusing in subject and effective in using dashes to enhance the ambiguity is Title Divine, is Mine. After reading line 7, God gives us Women , the understanding becomes uncertain as the next two lines are read, When you hold Garnet to Garnet / Gold to Gold (1666, 7 9). The dashes used cause the reader to ask if Dickinson is possibly comparing women to garnet and gold, or speaking to something deeper. As the reader moves along to line 10, Born Bridalled Shrouded, there is even more uncertainty because the words can have more than one meaning (1666). Obviously, the use of wife and bridalled speak of marriage; however, the religious imagery and the use of the word shrouded lead the reader to greater reflection (1666). Thus, the dashes in Dickinson s poetry sometimes add more uncertainty to a poems interpretation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They create an unintentional benefit to dark bellied brent geese who nest close to snowy owls for the protection of their own nests. The closer these geese place their nests to the snowy owl s nest the safer they are as well as if their nest is far from the snowy owl nest there is more danger and thus a higher chance of nest abandonment. The more protection these geese have the larger the number and size of their eggs as well (van Kleef, Willems, Volkov, Smeets, Nowak, amp; Nowak, 2007). Starting out in 1734, trade appeared to be slow in the Indonesian islands of Sumatra and Borneo. The letter to the Sultan Gondam Shan was more laid back and less aggressive than latter letters to that region. Another letter sent that year went into detail about how the English did not want to pay a higher price for the pepper since it would not be worth it. Additionally, this letter questions why Sumatras would want to visit England, putting it off as an unpleasant place. These two early letters show that trade was not very prominent at the time. A later letter in 1740 shows a different story; trade dealing with guns and gunpowder in exchange for pepper emerged. This is important because the island nations needed a constant supply of gunpowder so it promoted trade between the two. In the last document dated 1744, the East India Company offers to send a ship to protect these nations if they so desire to increase the trade of pepper. The second is Beatrice, who inspired Dante s journey of salvation in the first place, and who he longs to be reunited with. Yet although these guides are leading him towards God, Dante mistakes their guiding as the end itself. He makes a God of Beatrice, sees her as the ultimate good towards which one strives, and makes a Jesusof Virgil, the man through whom this ultimate good is reached. In this way, Dante creates his own trinity, much to the detriment of his ascent to the True God. His first mistake, through which the others stem, is equating Beatrice to God. When Elizabeth was appointed the Queen of England in a Constitutional Monarchy, many subjects of the English state did not respect her. Throughout her 50 years of reign, Elizabeth not only managed to assert herself as a cunning and capable leader and Queen, but also gained the love of the English people. It was through the way Elizabeth saw herself as a religious figure that she accomplished this feat. Although Queen Elizabeth used masculine traits to assert dominance, she saw that it was her femininitythat gave her the real advantage by creating her image after the Virgin Mary. Since she began her reign, Queen Elizabeth was highly aware that portraying aspects of masculinity would be beneficial to gaining the respect of her subjects. • 51. The Effects Of Uv Light Protection On The Microbial... A small amount of research has been conducted on air as a habitat compared to other environments such as soil, water, and sediments (1). Air makes up the atmosphere and is composed of approximately 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, .93 % argon, and .038% carbon dioxide (http:/ /www.space.com/17683 earth atmosphere.html). In addition, air carries dust particles, pollutants and plant grains. Air presents a hostile environment for the sustaining of metabolically active and reproducing microbes. The air is composed of UV radiation, which results in the development of UV light protection in the microbial populations that reside in this environment (1). Due to the conditions of air, microbes that inhabit air are capable of adapting to wider pH ranges. They are also capable of living in a wide range of temperatures due to varying altitudes (1). A majority of microbes that inhabit the air are in the Proteobacteria, Firmicutes, and Actinobacteria phylum. These microbes include, Pseudomonas syringae, Pantoea agglomerans, Propionibacterium acnes, Agrobacterium tumefaciens and Sphingomonas echnoides (2). A majority of the diversity of air is misunderstood by ecologist. Yet, the limited amount of research conducted on the diversity of the atmosphere supports that air is highly diverse. Samples taken from the atmosphere were dominated by plant and bacteria related sequences, indicating a highly variable 16sRNA gene diversity (2). When samples are taken from the atmosphere, there is a trend of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Buddhism Is A Religion And Philosophy Essay Buddhism is a religion and philosophy based on the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama. It is the oldest and fourth largest religion in the world with around 500 million followers. Buddhism focuses on teaching people how to come to terms with and end the suffering of themselves and others by cutting out greed, hatred, and ignorance from their lives. Unlike most major world religions, Buddhismdoes not revolve around worshiping a god or divine creator, instead the focus of Buddhism is living one s best life and transforming the lives of others. The ultimate goal of Buddhism is to reach Enlightenment and upon death achieve Nirvana, the liberation of pain and suffering. For Buddhists, it is the individual s responsibility to find his or her own path to enlightenment; the principles of Buddhism are seen more as guidelines than rules. Siddhartha Gautama was born between 563 and 480 BCE as the prince of Lumbini (in what is now Nepal). His mother died in either in childbirth or shortly thereafter and and his father was left to raise him. During his birth celebrations, it was predicted that Siddhartha would either become a great king or a great spiritual leader. His father wanted him to take over the throne, so he avoided religious teachings and sheltered him from suffering. Siddhartha, unsatisfied with with the life he was leading and yearning to learn about the world, he left his home at twenty nine to seek the true meaning of life. On his travels he saw an old man, a diseased man, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Essay on The Stakeholder Theory by Thomas Donaldson A stake holder, in general is defined as an individual or organization likely affected by the performance of an organization. In The stakeholder theory of the corporation: Concepts, evidence, and implications by Thomas Donaldson , he quotes Stanford research institution and calls stake holders those groups without whose support the organization would cease to exist. Therefore a stakeholder can be thought of as some who both influences and is influenced by an organization. According to Greasley (1999, p9) there are 3 types of stake holders: internal, connected and external. Internal stakeholders are described as the managers and employees of a company. Connected stakeholders are those that are beyond the immediate boundaries ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, for this scenario it will be assumed that the stakeholder concept stands, and hence will assume the stakeholder concept is infallible. It will be assumed that the large mining company is publicly owned and is situated a more economically developed country (MEDC). Therefore the company will have significantly weaker influence from the government than a government owned company. It will also imply that trade unions associated with the company will likely be strong, hence workers will have higher influence than they would in a less economically developed country (LEDC) where unions would be weaker . The above assumptions will also help in identifying stakeholders within the mining company; stakeholders will be divided up into the 3 defined in Greasley (1999, p9). Firstly, internal stakeholders, those connected directly to the firm. This group include will account for anyone working within the firm. In the context of the mining company, this includes people like miners, even jobs like those of a janitor in the building. However, it is important to note that it also involves much more powerful stakeholders like senior management, who play a large role in the decisions made by the company. Connected stakeholders, will include groups like shareholders, customers and suppliers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Motives For Colonization In New England And Chesapeake... New England and the Chesapeake Region were both settled primarily by people of English origin, however, by 1700 they had both transformed into two unique societies. This is because their motives for colonization, their geographies, and their governments were all different. For example, the New England colonies typically had much harsher winters than the Chesapeake region and their people came to America to escape religious persecutionin their mother country. On the other hand, the people of the Chesapeake region experienced warmer summers and came there in search of gold. As previously stated, different motives for colonization were partially responsible for transforming the New Englandand Chesapeake regions into two unique societies. The New England colonies were formed for religious reasons whereas the colonies of the Chesapeake region were formed for economic purposes. To emphasize, the people that settled in the New England colonies had been previously punished by their king, Henry VIII, for being non anglican and in turn they left the church of England for the Netherlands (they became known as separatists due to how they separated themselves from the Church). The Netherlands didn t happen to work out for the separatists, so they went to the New World and settled in the New England region. Based on this, it could also be said that the separatists were seeking permanent settlement (as they wanted to escape religious persecution) whereas those in the Chesapeake region ... During the late 20th century, the world has witnessed all sorts of social and technological changes due to globalisation (Bologun, Sutherland and Oswick, 2015). In fact, the breakdown of the traditional family division of labour, instant communication through technology, and the increased complexity of organisational objectives have favour gender equality and diversity. Those changes have pressure companies to improve their work structure to be more competitive and to the extent that the idea of an effective leadershiphas come under pressure to change too. However, women manifest more concern for an interpersonal relationship than men (Eagly and Johannesen‐Schmidt, 2001). Moreover, using Blake and Mouton (1964) framework, women show a more democratic (or participative) style, which facilitates collaboration, and less autocratic (or directive) style, that don t enhance followers creativity. Thus, according to the contemporary standard, women manifested more appropriate traits for being an effective leader. Furthermore, Eagly and Carli (2003) also conclude that female leader were more transformational and applied contingent reward behaviours which is one of transactional leadership component. Conversely, male leaders were more likely to involve two other aspects of transactional leadership which are active management by exception (waiting for a follower s mistake to corrected it) and passive management by exception (waiting for issues to become severe before solving it). Men also show a relatively high interest in laissez faire leadership. That different categorization of leadership style became popular by Burns in 1978 and then Bass in 1985.
