The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
Â
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesarâs dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empireâs birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empireâs society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

How Race, Age and Gender Shape Attitudes Towards Mental HealthThinkNow
Â
Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying itâs good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation thatâs least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state theyâre comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

Essay On Spanish Class
1. Essay On Spanish Class
It was my junior year of high school and things were getting harder in school. I had taken taken Spanish one, and me being being white, had no
knowledge of another language besides English. I took it for the fact that I needed more credits, and a lot of people knew Spanish. I entered
Spanish one, feeling confident and like I can do it, but I realized I was challenged a lot more. I did not know how many points the teacher graded
assignments on. He graded in packets, vocab quizzes, tests and oral presentations. I did not choose the smart decision at the beginning of the
school year and decided to mess up my grade right away. I missed the first assignment and it dropped my grade to a zero percent. It took a long
time to recover from my mistake, and I still had a very low grade by the second month. I tried my best but I knew this subject was not for me. No,
that does not mean I gave up, and I actually tried a lot harder. Even though, I had tried, I had not reached my goal and ended up failing a semester
of Spanish one. I do not like failing, it made me feel not accomplished, slow, and like I had not failed only myself, but my parents as well. I had not
even began to think of the disappoint and the words they would say to me. I remember coming home to show my parents my first progress report. My
dads eyes filled...show more content...
I had disappointed him and that was never my intention. My mother did not say much besides look down and walk away. Usually my father
handled these types of situations with me because he was the strong independent figure I needed at the time. With his fingers knotted in his thin
hair, he speaks with a firm voice " You are grounded, no computer, no phone, or seeing anyone for a while. Go to your room". I looked down with a
disappointed look on myself. I could not believe I had let myself fall that far from my goals. It was in that moment, I had realized my deepest desire to
fix that

2. Essays: Spanish Language
Essay 1
Does the language you speak reflect your personal and cultural Identity? The United States of America is one of the most diverse countries in the
world and for that reason there are many different languages spoken. Most people who move to this land of opportunities are required to learn the
primary language, English. By learning the language of the new world they have entered, they are slowly giving up the culture and language from
which they came from. People who have trouble learning English and changing according to the American culture are often looked down upon. In
Richard Rodriguez's, "Aria: A Memoir of a Bilingual Childhood" we see how the author struggles to find his public identity and in Gloria AnzaldĐŃa's,
" How to...show more content...
As she gets older she starts to appreciate her language more, discovering Chicano writers and watching Mexican movies. She starts to feel like she
belongs to a community and sticks up for her language because it is a part of her. It is interesting how AnzaldĐŃa's suddenly starts writing in Spanish.
According to me she addresses this when she says " and as long as I have to accommodate the English speakers rather than having them accommodate
me, my tongue will be illegitimate." When saying this and writing in the broken way that she has, she is making her language legitimate and relevant.
Her teachers try to take her accent away but she talks about how that would be taking a part of her away.
People are different around their family and in public meaning that they have dual identities. Anzaldua says that bilingual people cannot completely
identify to their native people's culture and they cannot identify to the American culture completely so they develop two identities. Another main idea
in this essay is that even though she is adopting the American culture she does not believe that it requires her to forget her own culture. She shows how
closely tied her language and identity are when she says 'I am my language'.
Both of these essays are about people who move to America at a young age and struggle with finding their public identity and keeping their individual
identity alive. They both slowly lose their Spanish but do

Learning does not always have to be in a classroom it can be in a small room that is very much unorganized. One activity that is offered by my
school is a Spanish class. First, I find this particular activity very exciting, yet interesting, and different for the schools interests also the student's
and teacher's interests. Second, we get to socialize with the other students and teachers. Last, it is more hands on than any other classes that I
could possibly think of. As can be seen, it is more fun than any other class that I know and can think of. First of all, I find this activity more
enjoyable than any other standard and boring classes that I have. We get to do very fun class activities that I enjoy like going on class trips,
puzzling games, and making giant also colorful piбatas. We even got to go to a Spanish speaking restaurant one time and it was so much fun being
there and learn more Spanish. We get to do fun, puzzling, and interesting games which I enjoy the most out of everything we done. Also the class can
socialize freely instead of sitting there bored out of his mind. This class would really help get us ready for a future job like a Spanish translator which
I think could be fun. After all, Spanish is...show more content...
We get to try different foods and fruity, but delicious, yet weird tasting drinks. We get to do awesome coloring sheets. We finally got to do a

conclusion, Spanish is an activity I enjoy the most out of all my classes. We are free to socialize amongst ourselves instead of sitting and always
being bored in our class. Spanish is more hands on than any standard class that I have. Learning does not have to take place in a standard, yet boring

4. What I Learn In Spanish
In Spanish, we are learning about what we like to do, but learning this made me think about what we can do. I mean, in lots of countries they can't go
take dance lessons or go swim in a clean pool. We don't think about how much God has gifted us, and that is evident in Spanish. We have computers
and online textbooks, which a lot of other schools don't have. Those help us learn so much faster than other kids can.

Found across the Atlantic and above Africa is Spain with a growing population of 46.7 million. The country reigned supreme from the 16th to the 19th

The fact that Spain uses prejudice decision when checking up on somebody raises the question for other countries, whether this is right or wrong, as
not all countries do this. Therefore, allowing for conflict among other nations ultimately affecting world politics. Global politics such as the economy
affect my country as the economic crisis in 2008â2009 hit Spain especially hard, leading to the unemployment of 27% of Spaniards. Low oil or energy
prices along with low efficiency in corporations' which cripple productivity are typical factors that follow a failing economy. When Spain's economy
hit yet another allâtime low back in 2011 they suffered from these factors resulting in lower wages, and high debt not allowing the country to
prosper. Then poor employment rates can have a negative effect on the population as people emigrate out of Spain and according to investopidia.com
2015 shows no promise of the job market improving. As 50,844 people left the country due to there being to many skilled workers than jobs. This
relates to globalization as it makes or breaks the economy on a global scale. Globalization is the process by which a business influences others
internationally. Sure, globalization has given some countries more jobs but not nearly enough and even then, not everyone befits. While globalization
allows for the opportunity it can create an imbalanced relationship between the rich and the poor. Also, if globalization can help Spain
