Analysis Of Bacon Rebellion
Brice Everson Mrs. Blomme Honors I 30 September 2014 Bacon s Rebellion The definition of
courage as defined by Dictionary.com is the ability to do something that frightens one. A
rebellion takes courage. It s not something the average human being can do. One cannot simply
expect just anyone to verbally stand up for what they believe is right. Courage is not something
found in a common human being. Sure, everyone has it somewhere deep down, but as for that
select group of people who aren t afraid to stand up for what they believe is right: They are the
ones that make a difference. Nathaniel Bacon wasn t by any means a great man but he definitely
wasn t afraid to take charge of a situation that involved him, directly or indirectly, and stand up
for himself. He was the type of relentless figure that made a difference in history because he had
one thing we all strive to have: Courage. Bacon s Rebellion, also known as the Virginia Rebellion,
took place in Jamestown, Virginia in 1676. Bacon s Rebellion was probably one of the most
confusing yet intriguing chapters in Jamestown s history (McCulley). This rebellion is considered
to be the first stirring of revolutionary sentiment in America,...(McCulley). It is still disputed by
historians today about whether the attack by Nathaniel Bacon on the governor of Virginia, Sir
William Berkeley, was justified or not. It all started in 1675, during the Susquehannock War. Many
Virginians disagreed on the

Hunters In The Snow By Tobias Wolff
Tobias Wolff is a writer known for his memoirs and realistic short stories. Hunters in the Snow is a
story about three friends, Tub, Frank, and Kenny, who go hunting in the snow. Wolff writes about
humanity through the friendship of the three friends and the events they go through. In the
beginning of the story is Tub, he is standing on the sidewalk. A truck comes around the corner, in
the truck is Kenny, the driver, and Frank. The trio heads towards the woods where Kenny wanted to
hunt. Crossing through the fences, Tub has trouble going through but Frank and Kenny offer him
no help at all. On the way back, they notice obvious deertrails that lead into a no huntingzone. After
getting permission from the owner, they followed the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is hinted at when Tub scarfs down two sandwiches and cookies when they were hunting.
Through the story, Tub gained confidence to confront his friends and the courage to reveal his
secret (86 99). The mysterious and calm man of the trio is Frank, a protagonist. He is first
introduced sitting in the truck while picking up Tub. Frank is laid back, yet joins with Kenny to
insult Tub. Though later, Frank apologizes to Tub. When Tub tells him his secret, Frank is
supportive and buys him four plates of pancakes. Frank believes in letting nature run its course
and not fight against it. After losing the deer, Frank calms Kenny saying Relax [...] You can t
hurry nature. If we re meant to get that deer, we ll get it. If we re not, we won t (89).
Contradictory to his personality is his wedding ring, a gold ring with an F in diamonds. When
they begin hunting, Kenny hints about a certain babysitter, which aggravates Frank. When he and
Tub stop to warm themselves, Frank exposes his secret that he is having an affair with his fifteen
year old babysitter. He says with amazement that she has opened up new worlds to him, the cause
of his hippie personality. Frank commits the crime of lust; however, he takes into consideration of
his wife and children if he divorces. Frank is torn between his secret lover and family, but gains a
trustworthy friend on his side to help him through it (86 97). The leader of

Planning A Funeral Research Paper
2 Important Things You Need To Know When Planning A Funeral
The information contained here will provide insights necessary to help you and your family create
a meaningful funeral planning experience that both honors the life of your loved one and starts you
on the path to healing from your loss.
A lot people are not ready to plan and carry out a funeral ceremony for their loved one. Incidentally,
majority of the information available on this subject has failed to address what is most important:
having a personalized, meaningful funeral that helps families and friends to heal the loss or death of
someone we cherish.
Funeral Homes
Most funeral homes have dedicated staffs who are trained to help you and can play an important
role in the planning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The remembering, reflecting and choices that take place in the planning and conducting of the
Funeral Service are often an important part of the process of mourning. And ultimately, this process
of deep thinking and discovery creates a memorable and moving funeral experience for all who
attend.
Why Have a Funeral?
When we pass through the death of someone we love, a funeral service fills several important
needs. There are two reasons why we have a funeral:
First, it provides for the honorable and respectful care of the person and special tribute to the life of
such a person.
Secondly, it helps those left behind to face the reality of death.
2.What meaningful choices are!
Meaningful choices are those informed funeral choices we make that help our family and friends
to create a meaningful funeral at the death of a loved one. The time of making meaningful choices
is not the time to deny your need to mourn and embrace painful feelings of grief in the coming
days. Rather you may feel deep sadness as you plan this funeral and begin to acknowledge the
reality that someone who you love has

Dennis Pat Brady Research Paper
Dennis Pat Brady. Some people may not recognize the name, but to some people that name
means the world. Who was Dennis Pat Brady? He was a legend to everyone who knew him.
Dennis Pat Brady was born on December 17th 1928; but it was celebrated on December 18th
because there was so many children in his family that his birth certificate got lost. Therefore,
people just assumed that it was on the 17th. He Was born in the Bronx; his parents, Anna and

Jason Swartwood Wisdom
Wisdom is a bit of an elusive topic. There seems to be a general consensus of what counts as
wisdom, however, when asked for a definition acting with regards to knowledge and understanding
is commonly used. While this definition is certainly workable, it does not go very deep into this
vast concept. How exactly do knowledgeand understanding interact to reach the level of wisdom?
There is not a whole lot of work done analyzing the process of acting wisely. One such attempt is
made by Jason Swartwood, who claims that wisdom can be thought of as an expert skill. He
claims that wisdom is the same kind of epistemic achievement as expert decision making. This
approach to wisdom allows for interesting insight into this topic and can begin to look... Show more

One of the more pressing questions is the ability to identify wisdom. Identifying wisdom is
something that is fairly common among people even without such in depth knowledge. Along
the lines of identifying wisdom, how do heuristics play into this discussion? Heuristics are any
sort of approach to solving a problem that is sufficient in achieving immediate goals. Typically
when applied to games, they are approaches at playing in the most optimal fashion in the widest
variety of scenarios. One of the great things about heuristics is that it is not always necessary for
these heuristics to be developed by an individual and can be passed to people who may be very
new to these situations or scenarios. Someone fairly new to the game of chess could be given a
set of heuristics with which to play by such that they could fair very well in the tournament. There
are a couple main components to the notion of heuristics, which could cause interesting cases
under Swartwood s account for wisdom. This beginning chess player could very well appear to be
acting wisely in this tournament, but would they actually acting wisely? The first aspect of
heuristics is their ability to achieve short term goals. Now the part of Swartwood s argument that
this would focus on is the domain in which his argument is concerned and the ability to grasp
success reasons to perform an

How Theme Shapes a Story

Like many people who haven t studied literature, if someone asked me what the theme of a story
was, I would have given a synopsis of the story detailing the actions and characters in it. As I have
come to learn, theme is much more than a distilled retelling of a story. Theme gives a story a
deeper meaning. The theme focuses the story and is the behind the scenes force that propels the
story forward. In other words it gives the story purpose and shape. Theme will attempt to hold all

She furthers uses an image like the missing pine trees, which are a symbol of immortality, to bring
to life the understanding that death has arrived. When Rhys uses cold the reader and the
character herself realize the meaning of the journey death. The introduction of cold allows the
reader to understand that the journey has come to an end and is irreversible. Character also
builds theme in a story. According to our text when looking at how characters shape theme you
should ask how do characters make a particular aspect of the underlying area clear? (Clugston, R
2010) This is a good place to start when looking at Rhys story. The author used the characters
thoughts and feeling to unfold the symbols in the story. The author also did not give a physical
description on the woman, this adds to furthering the theme of the journey in the story. The
woman is no longer a live and therefore she doesn t need a body. It is clear from the symbols
pointed out by the woman that she is leading us on this journey. As the character reaches the end
her journey, we as the reader does as well. Rhys layers the symbols at the end of the story so the
reader begins to rapidly connect the dots in there meaning.

Difference Between Absolute And Nietzsche

Escaping Modernity: Freedom and Happiness at the End of History An argument exists that there
is a difference in the conception of Hegel in the relationship of agency and the absolute with that of
Nietzsche and Heidegger. My argument now is that the difference in Hegel s conception of the
relationship of agency and absolute is fundamentally different from that of Nietzsche and
Heidegger in that, according to Hegel, we can, through reason fathom the absolute and though we
constitute it, we can never be the absolute. Nietzsche and Heidegger, on the other hand, locate the
absolute in human where they demand that the whole (worthy) human subsumes the absolute. My
thinking is that Nietzsche is concerned with the master ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How Did Copernicus Create A Paradigm Shift To A...
This paper analyzes the veracity of the fairly commonplace belief that Nicolaus Copernicus
produced a paradigm shift in the field of astronomy from the geocentric Ptolemaic model to his
own heliocentric model that resembles what contemporary astronomy deems as true. The starting
point is the analysis of the work put forth by Copernicus in contrast to his Ptolemaic predecessors
and his heliocentric successors. The framework for this analysis is the one suggested by Thomas
Kuhn in his description of a paradigm shift in the context of scientific development. The paper
concludes that Copernicus deserves a lot of credit for initiating the heliocentric paradigm shift,
similar to the widespread sentiment that his work revolutionized astronomy and produced a
paradigm shift to a heliocentric model, but not quite the same. His work retains a large number of
elements from the Ptolemaic system which prevented it from being a clear shift, but he does indeed
challenge the geocentric and geostationary (that the earth is at rest) assumptions in a move that
threatens the core of the Ptolemaic system. Nonetheless, his work did little more than argue from a
position with weak... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kuhn himself used the term rather loosely in his landmark book The Structure of Scientific
Revolutions , referring to either the laws and principles that govern scientific inquiry within a
specific field or just a collection of landmark works showcasing a common body of beliefs.
Although one could consider arguing that the Copernican revolution (but definitely not Copernicus
himself) started the shift away from deriving scientific knowledge from scripture and thus he
started a paradigm shift in the former sense, those implications are fairly removed from Copernicus
himself. As such, arguing whether he initiated a paradigm shift in the latter sense is a more

Similarities Between Jamestown And Plymouth Colonies
Coming to America, many different groups of people had a hard time migrating here and trying to
survive. Although many came well equipped for the hard journey, being new to the land made it
harder for them to build colonies and thrive. This is because they came across many unexpected
hardships that they were not prepared for mentally and physically. In this essay, I will talk about
two different groups that migrated to America and how they adjusted to the new land and the new
way of life. The colonies of Jamestown and Plymouth Plantation both had many similarities and a
few differences when they came to America in the journey to build more and more colonies. When
Jamestown had decided to set sail to make colonies in America, John Smith... Show more content on

He soon took on an important role in the tribe the Pocahontas belonged to and he got to learn
many new things. Although he was liked and was able to sustain himself, he knew he had to go
back to his colony soon. When Smith made it back to his colony, he realized that they had
gotten worse while he was gone. They continued to lack food and the system they had as a
government was falling apart. So they all came to the conclusion that Smith should be elected
president because he had learned from the tribe how to set up and run an efficient government.
Although Smith was very strict with the colonists, by being so, the colony was able to get back
on their feet and thrive. Later on as time passed, Smith was injured and had to return to England.
Of the 214 colonists that arrived in America, only 60 survived. The Pilgrims voyaged to America
around 1602 and they were off to a bad start when it came to colonize the new land. A while after
the Pilgrims had landed in America, they decided to make William Bradford the governor of their
new government, which he continued on out for the rest of his life. Throughout the time that the
Pilgrims were in America, they suffered many deaths that were not expected to occur. Many
important people to the government had died due to lack of supplies. The Pilgrims did not have

Essay on The Other in William Shakespeare s Othello
The Other in William Shakespeare s Othello
In several of Shakespeare s plays the writer introduces the notion of being considered an other ,
and whether certain groups are in or out . This theme is significantly portrayed in the play Othello,
in which a black general living in Venice must constantly struggle to balance his dual nature of both
Moor and Venetian. It is apparent that before the play begins, Othellohas not yet resolved his
duplicitous self image; however, throughout the action of the play, he is put in a maliciously
designed situation which causes his insecurities and self doubt to breed, allowing the Venetian?s

(I.ii.70) of Othello, and Iago plays the part of honest and loyal friend, but secretly despises
Othello and crafts an intricate and devious plot for his ruin. The various opinions of Othello in the
beginning of the play show that despite the fact that he can hold a position of power in Venetian
society, it is nearly impossible for him to obtain universal respect from the people who will never
accept his exotic appearance and heritage.
It would be difficult for anyone to come to terms with such contradictory notions of themselves,
and Othello is no exception. Once Iago sets the stage for Othello?s fall, the negative emotions
aroused in the general cause him to release the lunatic black man that the insiders have feared lies
within ?The Moor?s? austere composure. Many critics have suggested that Othello?s extreme
jealousy is what amounts to his belief in Iago?s twisted tale of Desdemona?s infidelity and thus his
ultimate downfall; however, it seems more likely that it is Othello?s insecurity over his sense of
self that allows this manipulation to amount to such an extreme representation of character. Othello
himself admits ?Rude am I in my speech? (I.iii.81), failing to have the confidence to eloquently
explicate his relationship with Desdemona, although his words prove him to possess quite an
impressive mastery of the English language. He comments again on his

The Roman Empire and the Han Empire
After the collapse of the Qin Dynasty in the third century BCE, the Han Empire emerged as a
massive imperial power in the East. Its culture was compiled upon the teachings of Confucius and
ancestor worship. Meanwhile in the west, the Romans solidified their authority as being a dominant
force in the Mediterranean. Both the Roman Empireand the Han Empire were similar in their
governments as they both supported a centralized government. On the other hand, they were
different in the manner of how they dealt with foreigners and outside visitors. Although the Han
Empire and the Roman Empire were alike, there are more differences between them than
similarities. One difference between the two empires were their treatment with foreigners. The
Hans believed that they had no need for them to be included within the Empire. However, this was
not the case for the Romans. The Roman Empire would accept outsiders and tolerate them. The
Empire treated the foreigners well even to the extent of making them citizens. During this time
however, the Romans did not have enough people to go to war. This led them into giving the
barbarians jobs in the military. Soon, there were so many foreign soldiers to the degree that almost
70% of the entire army were barbarians. The reason why the Hans looked down upon the
barbarians was because the Hans thought that the barbarians were inferior. One reason why the
Hans thought that they were so superior was their belief of the Mandate of Heaven. The

From above you would think this was only a good thing. But unfortunately a systolic blood
pressure of below 90mmHg can cause real problems. The lower you blood pressure becomes the
less blood reaches our vital organs like the brain. This can cause simple symptoms such as
dizziness or faints. However prolonged hypotension below 80 90mmHg can cause toxins to build
up in the blood, this is because the kidneys need a certain amount of blood pressure to filter the
blood properly. This can be fatal if left untreated.
2.2 Body temperature is a measurement of the body s ability to generate or get rid of excess
heat. When the body gets to hot the blood vessels near the skin dilate to carry the excess heat to
your skins surface. You will also begin to sweat as the sweat evaporates this helps cool you
body. When the body becomes too cold our blood vessels contract, this reduces the blood flow to
the skins surface to conserve body heat. As we become colder the body can start an involuntary
response called shivering. This is where the muscles of the body rapidly contract this extra muscle
activity helps generate more heat. Normal body temperature is around 37В°C this is an average of
normal body temperatures. Your temperature may actually be 0.6В°C above or below 37В°C

Argumentative Essay On Meat
Meat is under attack in our society today. The media is full of articles highlighting the negative
effects of meat, an army of people are trying to tarnish the reputation of meat in any way possible.
More people are cutting meat from their diet now then ever before. I guess you could say then that
meatis not in a good place. I recently read an article on the negative effects of meat on the human
body and on the environment. The essay was good and the argument compelling by the time I
finished reading I was almost persuaded to give up eating meat and live the vegetarian life style.
I spent sometime mulling over the idea of giving up my some of my favorite foods, what it
would be like to never again taste a warm, tender juicy steak, or bite down it to a succulent
buffalo burger. I decided that if I was going to change my life in such a drastic way I had to be
sure that the benefits were all that people worked them up to be. Did I give up meat then and join
the ranks of the vegetarian? While researching the topic I found that although meat does have many
negative effects these effects come from over eating and gorging ourselves on meat. If meat is eaten
in moderation it actually has positive effects on the body. The nutriance found in meat is vital to
help the body function properly, maintain braintissue and make our minds sharper and more alert.
Meat is an essential part of our diets and should be eaten (in moderation) by every one who wants

Executive Summary The FBI Information Technology Upgrade Project (FITUP) was initiated in
2000, and, after five years of cascading problems, was abandoned for the Sentinel project in

The project was meant to modernize the FBI s antiquated computer system and included a case
management system, an evidence management system, and a records management system
(Marchewka 2010). As we will discuss in the course of our case study, the Trilogy Project would

Without centralized IT leadership defining program goals, alignment within the agency s IT
programs was not possible. Culturally, existing tools, such as the Automated Case Support (ACS)
system, were under utilized, and agents did not trust them to protect evidence and confidential
sources (OIG Audit Report 05 07, 2005). Numerous techniques exist that would have allowed
Trilogy leadership to gain key input from system users, which would have had the dual benefit of
creating understanding of the ground level needs of users and fostering user buy in at the project s
outset.
Formal Project Definition
Trilogy management attempted to provide a formal project definition that explained the mission of
the project, focused the project planning efforts and outlined the project deliverables. Trilogy was
so named due to its three components: the Information Presentation Component (IPC), the
Transportation Network Component (TNC) and User Application Component (UAC). The IPC
and TNC components were adequately defined, but the UAC was poorly defined, with
catastrophic results. Trilogy management recognized that the size and complexity of the project
required the use of external resources with proper IT project experience and technical expertise.
Two contractors were used, one for the IPC and TNC, and a second for UAC. The IPC/TNC
contract included three major milestones as part of a phased rollout: Fast Track, Extended Fast
Track and Full Site Capability.

Cologne Guitar Town
Sponsored by The Gibson Foundation, Guitar Town is a famous event where a town is filled with
huge guitar sculptures replicas of Gibson most famous models. The event also includes special
concerts, workshops, lectures and get together with guitar legends. So far, this event only once
came to Europe, was in London 2007.
After the exhibition of the guitars, they enter in an auction and the money generated is given to
social causes.
Gibson wishes to do such a program in Cologne. The need to enter and gain customer proximity in
the European market makes this an excellent choice and so, Gibson is seeking a partnership with
Music Store in order to bring the event to Cologne. Also, is important to state that joining both
brands in such invent is a way to Gibson generates a strategic position near a major retailer in
Europe.

As previous stated, although Music Store has in its catalogue several products from Gibson, truth
is, Gibson isn t in the best sellers list. The main reason identified for that is probably the premium
position that Gibson has. Their Guitars are priced above the regular and most sold guitars in the
store.
In order to invert this tendency, it may be possible to create a special line just for Europe and have
the launching fully dedicated to Music Store for a pre determined set of time. This way it could be
price controlled, targeting an European Market that is investing less in premium

The Mistreatment Of The Illegal Immigrants
The mistreatment of the illegal immigrants has become a serious issue among the United States.
There are tons of debates on the issue, which causes a lot of unrest among the citizens of the
country. With the political debates constanly going back and forth, I well reveal the many
insecurities and injustices that many of the immigrants have faced. Many have complained that
because of the illegal immigrants, the competition for jobs have been fierce making it impossible
to obtain a job. However, by analyzing the welfare of the immigrants, we find that many of them
are fighting for minimum wage jobs. The struggle to make two ends meet alone is enough to cause
a breaking point let alone the unfair treatment given to them by the biased masses. Not even the
children are spared from the senseless bickering, Leaving them doomed to suffer the unjust
penalties due to the lack of Immigrationreform. Immigrants have been constantly being demonized
by the usual patriotic propaganda the has spawned from the people. The lack of any positive
reform can t be seen in the future due to congress at a constant power struggle spiraling downward.
Analyzing the Welfare effect of illegal immigration, shows the dynamic overall framework and
shows why it s positive for two reasons. First, immigrants are paid less than their marginal product,
and second, after an increase in immigration, domestic households find it optimal to increase their
holdings of capital. It is also shown that dynamic

Summary Of What s That Smell In The Kitchen
What s That Smell in the Kitchen? What s that Smell in the Kitchen? is a poem written by
Marge Piercy in 1982. Most all women can relate to this poem on so many levels; as for the men,
they could learn a few things. All over America women are burning dinners food they re supposed
to be bringing with calico smile on platters glistening like wax (6 7). It portrays an image that
women are to cook gourmet meals for their families nightly. The poem tells about a womanwho
feels outraged, jaded, and unappreciated by her husband. The first example of outrage is anger
sputters in her brainpan, confined but spewing out missiles of hot fat (10 11). She is so angry
that she is boiling mad she could spit fire. She wants to lash out so badly because of all the anger

Carbonized despair presses like a clinker from a barbecue against the back of her eyes (11 12).
Once again, she uses an analogy of burning something over slow fire to show how she is upset
with the situation. Clinker is the substance that is used to make cement. To imply something
such as, clinker against the back of her eyes, shows feelings of being weighted down and hard to
even open her eyes to see anything good. She sees red, and feels like she is carrying around a

Environmental Effects Of Overfishing
The ocean is one of the largest sources of food and income for countries all across the globe. As
the fishing industry and human population grow, more and more resources are being taken out of
the ocean every year. If this process continues without any type of new regulation, our oceans
supply of resources will quickly start depleting. Without a sustainable output from our oceans,
millions of people will be losing income that they thought they could rely on forever. While most
people are not aware of this problem, over the past fifty years overfishing has developed into a
huge environmental issue that could have catastrophic global effects on us in the future if left
untreated. According to WorldWildlife.org, More than 85 percent of the world s fisheries have
been pushed to or beyond their biological limits and are in need of strict management plans to
restore them (WWL.org). This statistic shows that most of our oceans resources are being overused
and depleted. Some of the the most important fishspecies, for example, the bluefin tuna, have been
exploited to the point that their population s survival is at risk. The overfishing of top predators
disrupts marine ecosystems and food chains, leaving a large quantity of smaller populations. This
type of imbalance can be very dangerous to the oceans ecosystems by throwing off the natural
order of predators. In the past fishingwas more sustainable because the technology that is used
today did not exist. They did not

The Ludlow Massacre Of 1914 Essay
The Ludlow Massacre of 1914 is one of the bloodiest strike in the American labor history.
Historians have debated whether the event was a massacre of innocent lives caused by the
Colorado Fuel Iron (CF I) or as a battle between the company workers and the company
militiamen. The CF I stated that the event was an act of its workers to demilitarize the company
and to prevent importation of strikebreakers . However, Thomas Andrews Killing for Coal: America
s Deadliest Labor War introduces the concept of workscape in which gives an understanding of
the event internally, above the surface and underground the mines of Colorado. Within the book,
the operation of Colorado coal companies in capitalizing the coal industry lead to the formation
of the mine workscape in which united coal miners underground the mines and above the surface
to fight for industrial and political rights. This paper would define the concept of workscape in
the definition given by Andrews, and provide evidence of the responsibility of the exploitation of
capitalism in forming the mine workscape in the Colorado coal fields between the late 1800 s and
early 1900 s. Furthermore, the closer inspection of several events that occurred within and outside
the grounds of the Colorado coal fields related to labor unrest with the knowledge of the concept of
workscape will help understand the culmination of the Ludlow massacre within the larger history of
capitalism. A careful investigation of the book and other

The Developmental History Of Nosql And The Fundamental...
Abstract
The demands on database technology have been ever expanding since its introduction in the 1960
s. Today traffic on the internet requires that millions upon millions of records be stored and queried
each second. Data must be highly available and quickly retrievable. These requirements put
together have given rise to new forms of database technologies collectively called NoSQL or Not
Only SQL . NoSQL eschews the strict guidelines that govern the creation and function of
traditional relational databases. These guidelines are put aside in order to rise to the new demands
of an increasingly interconnected world. The rigorous standards and data definitions of relational
databases give way in order to provide the ability to rapidly ... Show more content on

NoSQL is able to address the massive traffic loads experienced by database servers at
corporations that specialize in data processing like Google, Facebook and Amazon. NoSQL
technologies can provide near constant availability, massive user concurrency and lightning fast
responses. There are four primary NoSQL database implementation types being used today:
document based, wide column (or columnar), key value and graph. The different properties of
SQL and NoSQL databases will be examined and an overview of each NoSQL implementation type
along with an example will be given.
ACID v. BASE: Eventual consistency Standard SQL databases adhere to what are commonly called
the ACID properties. This means that the database must be atomic, consistent, isolated and durable.
Atomic means that each attribute cannot be broken into sub groups. Consistent means that the
database displays only the latest data; there are no older versions of data present within the database
unless by design. Isolated means that no transactions will interfere with one another; i.e. two
concurrent users changing the same data in the database will not end with incorrect results; the
transactions will be processed separately. Durable means that once changes have been made they
will remain in place and not revert to their prior state (Pritchett, 2008). The ACID properties can be
crucial to certain business models; financial transactions might require

Learning Disabilities And The Early Stages Of A Disability
Abstract
Learning disabilities are something a lot of people have to do it. It is a problem that affects
many people around the world, and causes a lot of frustration. This people will cover the general
definition of what other s ability is, and explain a little bit what it is. It will also go over some
myths that are prevalent when it comes to her and Billy s learning disabilities. It will cover the
criteria that needs to be met to receive the proper diagnosis and treatment for a child or young
adult with a learn disability. Warning sign and treatment will also be covered and given a more in
depth look into each of those topics.
Learning Disabilities
Learning disabilities are the most common disability. These disabilities are not like others, they
affect different people in different ways and have plenty of myths behind them. There is a criterion
that has to be met to receive the proper treatment and warning signs that can identify the early
stages of a disability.
Definition of Learning Disabilities

Aging Population Being Diagnosed With Cognitive Impairment
With the steady increase with the aging population being diagnosed with Cognitive Impairment,
there has been urgent demand for scientists to develop intelligent systems to support cognitively
impaired people. With this increase of the cognitively impaired, it has caused a strain on support
services and in turn it has had a negative impact socially and economically onto the society.
As a potential solution, assistive technology (AT) has always been seen as a reasonable approach to

With the constraints of the suggested systems, the authors propose an idea to provide a solution
that overcomes the problems stated above. The proposition is to develop a nonintrusive system
that is able to recognise electrical activities via electrical appliances by monitoring the signals
from the main panel. This approach is less intrusive as it only requires one sensor; it is able to
support cognitively impaired people in their ADL by sending prompts via electrical devices. The
idea of the nonintrusive system is an extension but focuses on electrical appliances and how it can
send prompts to the patients of it also focuses on the previous work of the nonintrusive appliance
loading monitoring system (NIALM).
To justify the idea the proposed, a series of experiments are undertaken. This consists of
implementing the system into a real smart home with a single power analyser at the main electrical
panel. The assistive system was tested rigorously against real life scenarios, related to morning ADL

How Is Islamic State a Modern Day Animal Farm?
Although alluding to a completely different nation in a different time period, George Orwell s

because Animal Farm s and ISIS s leader are very similar, they use a certain ideology to make

Animal Farm and ISIS s leaders are similar. In Animal Farm s case it is Napoleon, and in ISIS s

The Shaping of North America
. originally Earth had only one super continent, this continent split into several smaller ones, one of
which would later be called North America
. as millions of years passed North America s geography began to change, mountain ranges sprung
up, rivers flowed across the vast land, from the Atlantic to the Pacific, the entire continent was
changing
. two million years ago an ice age swept across the world, North America was part of it, it
transformed and shaped the way North America looks today, as the glaciers began melting 10,000
years ago new lakes and rivers became present, such as the Great Lakes that still remain enormous
today
. North America was being shaped by nature, and it would remain the same for centuries
Peopling the Americas
. the first humans to come to America came by land, the ice age caused the sea level to drop,
revealing a land bridge that connected North America and Eurasia
. Asian hunters following animals were the first to step foot on the land of the vast continent
. North and South America became isolated once more as the sea level returned to normal when
the ice age passed, this denied the rest of the world entry, until much later when the Europeans
would discover the New World
. when Europeans arrived in 1492 in search of the Indies, an estimated 54 million people were
already living over the wide spread of the two continents

with week seven, provided with a business network scenario I will decide based on the

A top down design is also known as a stepwise design, or as Cisco documentation refers to the
Plan Design Implement Operate Optimize (PDIOO), (Oppenheimer 7) as a set of phases in the
life cycle of a network. What I hope to learn by doing this project is that given business goals and
constraints, apply the top down network design process and design a network based on those
business goals and constraints. From the book, at least from chapter 1, that the top down process
brings together information on goals, but also the importance of using systematic methods for
network design. Using these well defined, systematic methods will benefit in understand the
changing technologies and customer requirements. Once again, from Chapter 2, I hope to learn the
importance of analyzing the customer s business needs, his style, his biases, and his technical
expertise. Understanding how to work with a customer will assist to understand the budget and
schedule for the network design project. The bottom line for me to succeed, I need to understand
my client s corporate organizational structure. Understanding the corporate structure will aid in

Medical Malpractice
Medical Malpractice
The doctor patient relationship has been defined differently through the years. In the beginning it
developed into a common calling which meant doctors practiced medicine as a duty to their
patients. Laws were developed to protect patients, therefore doctors used proper care and expert
skill. In the past six centuries, medical malpractice has increased, which lead to revision and
addition to the law. Liability was introduced along with the GIANT of all torts , negligence. Now
in today s society, a doctor s duty is to use reasonable care, skill and judgment in the practice of his

In cases like these the doctor is incredibly egotistical and is playing God.
Physicians
who ignore patient requests or fail to ask for consent only build communication barriers and ruin
the profession s reputation. Many people believe doctors are the real victims. They feel doctors
are confined from performing and medical students limit career options in fear of being sued.
There are some illegitimate and ungrateful citizens who insist on filing suits when doctors are
not at fault. When a family member dies, the loss may cause anger and looking for a doctor to
sue seems like the right thing to do. It is human nature to always look for a party at fault in any
tragedy. Doctors fears of malpractice awards also result in bad medical care. New procedures carry
a higher risk of harm and second guessing later, so doctors stick to conventional treatments, even in
terminal cases, for fear the treatment may hasten the patient s death. The opposite is also true, both
overtesting and overtreating are standard methods of beating malpractice suits. Thousands of
unneeded surgeries are performed each year. Expensive technology is regularly misused В– CAT
scans to diagnose simple headaches, for example. Also, the few plaintiff s who win unrealistically
high awards raise insurance costs for all doctors. (Nolo Press editors, # 32) In fact, the Canadian

Hypocrisy In To Kill A Mockingbird Analysis
Hypocrisy in To Kill a Mockingbird In her coming of age novel To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper
Lee explores how the precocious protagonist, Jean Louise Scout Finch, struggles to fit into her role
as a lady and has a difficult time coming to terms of the cruelty as well as the injustice her Southern
town displays through discrimination. Scout resides with her family in Maycomb County, Alabama
in the 1930s a town severely divided by color. She goes through a breathtaking metamorphosis
throughout the novel when her father Atticus defends a Negro man accused of rape, exposing her
to the true roots of human behavior. Through the use of settings, characterization, and ironies, Lee

Another hypocritical scene occurs in the novel when the people of Maycomb make untrue
judgements about the Radley Place and its inhabitants. For instance, Scout states, The shutters
and doors of the Radley house were closed on Sundays, another thing alien to Maycomb s ways:
closed doors meant illness and cold weather only (11). It is duplicitous of the townspeople to
scrutinize the Radleys based solely on town gossip and the appearance of their home. The
Radley home is intentionally used as an excuse by the townspeople to isolate the Radleys since
their way of living is not considered normal in their eyes. Overall, numerous reasons can be
found why people tend to be hypocritical; it is evident as to why many possess this quality in
Maycomb. Lee uses characterization, a crucial literary device, to display to readers the lethal
effects of hypocrisy in society. As Miss Maudie said, Mockingbirds don t do one thing but make
music for us to enjoy. They don t eat up people s gardens, don t nest in corncribs, they don t do
one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That s why it s a sin to kill a mockingbird (119). Despite
his innocence and role of a mockingbird, Tom was condemned guilty of rape and shot 17 times.

of that ugliness. Humans often appear to be hypocritical when they attempt to prove a point, yet

Heart Edgar Allen Poe explores the similarity of love and hate in many stories, especially The
Tell Tale Heart. In The Tell Tale Heart, the narrator confesses a love for an old man whom he then

The narrator reveals his inability to recognize that the eye is the I, or identity, of the old man. The
eyes symbolize the essence of human identity, which cannot be separated from the body. The eye
cannot be killed without causing the man to die. According to the narrator, For it was not the old
man who vexed me, but his Evil Eye. (Poe), the eye not the old man haunted him and had to be
eliminated. Characterization also helps the reader understand the theme. I think that the narrator is
unnamed to give the reader another sense that this whole story could happen to them, or anyone
they know. It shows the theme that everyone has an evil side, and although it is hard to admit, all
humans are capable of committing a murder such as this. But just like everyone is capable of
committing this kind of crime, everyone also feels the guilt after the deed is done. As the story
goes on, the readers can see the madness growing in the narrator. At first, he tells the story quite
calmly. He even explains that after the murder, he was completely calm with the police officers.
The narrator then states The officers were satisfied. My manner had convinced them. (Poe),
thinking he could get by with the murder but he could not stand the guilt that came along with it.
By the end of the story when he hears the heartbeat, his whole mannerism changes. He is stressed
and his words and thoughts come out in a panicked tone. Interestingly, there is only one set of

Descriptive Essay On Fast Food
In our quickly growing society, full of capitalism, advertisements seem to have become the
backdrop to our bustling lives. Though we seem to overlook their presence, throughout all
American cities, Ads are what fill all the empty spaces, from store front windows, to big
billboards in the skies. These brightly colored pictures, that flood our vision as we drive to work,
or even stroll down the mall, have a more influential effect on our daily lives then we realize. A
perfect example of this is with the foodindustry.
Fast Food is becoming a routine stop for many Americans, as they go about their day. This is
causing health to also be on the minds of consumers. You d think this would defer people from
continuing their daily, fast food pit stop, but in reality, it s the industries that are changing their own
advertisements to promote their healthy options instead. When you take a moment to look at the
ads promoting your favorite food brands, you ll start to notice the emphasis on things such as
calorie count, ingredients, and freshness of the food. You can clearly see these attributes when
analyzing the three different posters, for three different food products, that I have selected.
The first poster, is an image of a Heinz ketchup bottle, created using fresh slices of tomatoes. The
second poster is promoting a Veggie Burger from McDonald s by forming the image of a cow
using various vegetables. While the last poster is for the popular smoothie brand, Naked, in which
you see a healthy looking woman running, with the words Our machines don t run on added sugar
or preservatives and neither will you .
While analyzing the first poster, for Heinz ketchup, your eyes quickly realizes the well known
glass Heinz bottle to be made up entirely of thick slices of tomatoes. The rest of the poster is
merely a red background with a small Heinz slogan at the bottom, which reads, No one grows
ketchup like Heinz . The poster is simple, with only two focal points, the bottle, and the slogan.
This forces the consumers to only focus on what the producer wants them to gather, which is, in
this case, the idea of natural and fresh ingredients. The simplicity of the ad also seems to represent
that the popular ketchup brand

Assess critically the contribution that scientific management makes to the experience and
management of contemporary work.
Scientific Management also known as Taylorism was developed by Frederick W. Taylor in the late
nineteenth century.
Taylorism is a form of job design, which stresses short, repetitive work cycles; detailed, set task
sequences; a separation of task conception from task execution; and motivation linked to pay.
Taylor argued that the principal objective of management should be to secure the maximum
prosperity for the employer, coupled with the maximum prosperity for each employee (1911).
Fredrick Taylor s five principles of scientific management:
1. A clear division of tasks and responsibilities... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pay system may result in a worker valuing quantity over quality.
7. Functional foremanship was deemed to be too complex and an unwieldy mode of supervision.
(Huczynski, 2013)
Ways to alleviate the negative effects of Taylorism especially to worker motivation and
performance and find new ways to job designs came about following the introduction of the
American psychologists Fredrick Hertzberg two factor theory of motivation. Hertzberg had the idea
that there were two sets of factors that affected motivation and job characteristics:
Motivators: These factors refer to the extent to which a job offers opportunities for achievement,
creativity, responsibility, opportunities for personal growth. These are intrinsic to the job itself.
Hygiene factors: These comprise issue as the nature of supervision and supervisory style, the level
of pay, working conditions, and interpersonal relations. These are extrinsic to the job.
For Hertzberg it was only the motivator factors that have the potential to generate satisfaction and
motivation. If hygiene factors are improved, they do not result in improved motivation, but if
removed, will result in demotivation.
To raise levels of motivation and therefore performance, following Hertzberg theory of motivation,
companies needed to ensure that the hygiene factors were in place, and to also ensure that the

Golitsyn was also highly damaging to Angleton in another way, and one which goes much further
than the Nosenko ordeal in justifying his paranoia. Angleton is noted for, even previous to
meeting Golitsyn, holding the belief that the Soviet Union had a master plan to deceive the entire
West, having a fundamental misunderstanding as to the Soviet s limits and believing them far
more capable of espionage than they were, not helped by the previously stated defections of
Fuchs and, in particular the personal betrayal of Philby. While this was always a part of his
underlying paranoia, it was kicked into full gear by his affiliation with Golitsyn. Golitsyn,
according to Tim Weiner, was certified by CIA psychiatrists as clinically paranoid...

Cline stated how Angleton began like this (healthily paranoid) but then overdid it... In the end, he
was so obsessive that he became less effective, and ultimately did damage to the agency. It seems
then there may have been two levels of Angleton s paranoia, with the first justifiable, but the
second, after his connection with Golitsyn, more difficult to justify. Even so, Angleton s world
view, and view of the Soviet Union, goes some way to undermining the justification for his
paranoia, but the fact that he was misled by what he thought was a factual account of life within
the Soviet Union could be seen as evidence that he was justified somewhat in his increasing
paranoia, despite the catastrophic manifestations of that paranoia in the case of Nosenko. One of
the biggest justifications for Angleton s paranoia, even arguably in his later years when Golitsyn
and Nosenko sealed the end of his CIA career, comes from events that took place after his
resignation and the airing of the Family Jewels before Congress, one of Angleton s most high
profile public appearances. In February 1994, a CIA agent by the name of

Analysis Of The Movie Hurt, Nine Inch Nails
Hurt is a song that was written by Trent Reznor of the industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails in
1994 from the album The Downward Spiral. It received positive reviews, even receiving a
Grammy award nomination for best rock song in 1996 ( Hurt, Nine Inch Nails Song ). Reznor in
Cleveland, Ohio founded the Nine Inch Nailsin 1988. Reznor is the main producer, singer,
songwriter, and instrumentalist of the band as well as the only official member of the group ( Nine
Inch Nails ). Country music artist Johnny Cashreceived critical acclaim when he covered Hurtwith
reviews saying that Cash s version was much better than the original done by Reznor. Johnny
Cash is considered to be one of the most influential and best selling artists of the 20th century.
Most of Cash s music contained themes of sadness, sorrow, and moral tribulations, which made
Reznor s Hurt a perfect cover for Cash ( Johnny Cash ). Hurt is the type song someone listens to
when they have the kind of day that makes them feel alone. Everything you thought you knew was
wrong, people stab you in the back, and everything you used to believe in has vanished. You re left
with nothing at the end of the day, feeling depressed and miserable, that is what Hurt is about. Hurt
makes you realize you re not the only one in the world that suffers these pains because everyone
goes through them. It then leaves the listeners feeling as if they are not alone anymore; they can
start to relate to the loneliness and misery that the song

The Abortion Controversy
The Abortion Controversy Many outsiders see the United States as a place of peace and harmony.
But for those who live within it, know that it is the complete opposite. The United States has
numerous amounts of worldwide problems from the economy to obesity to even pollution.
Although some are more important than others doesn t mean the small issues should go unnoticed.
Abortion, the termination of pregnancyis considered a problem by many but also reflected as
nonfactor to others opinion. In my opinion, I believe abortion is a growing problem and the people
of the United States fail to apprehend it. The actual termination of the pregnancy could leave the
mother suffering from a serious illness or even be fatal.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you know that you are not financially stable or even wanting a baby protect yourself as much
as possible. Just like a man who robs a bank knows there is a chance of him going to jail, females
need to realize that when having sex there is a chance she may become pregnant. So now all that
s left to ask is, what is the difference between me murdering for respect and murdering just
because I can or because I didn t do what was right? Adults as well as teenagers need to become
more aware of the consequences that come along with sex. If you are old enough to lie in the bed,
be able to make it. The solution I propose is to limit abortion. For example, a woman should only be
given the option of abortion only when they have been raped or exposed to incest. Rape and
incest often leave women severely hurt or in worst case scenarios pregnant. A female as well as
her child should not have to go through life wondering where they came from or even who. When
studies were taken only one percent of all women who proceeded to get the procedure done was
due to rape or incest. A woman other than these circumstances should be punished just as badly as
someone who has murdered another. Every abortion is just another heart that has stopped, two more
eyes that will never see, two hands that will never touch, two more legs that will never run, and

Prolonged practices and extensive team meetings take up most of the athletes time to workout or
train during the busy season. As a result, an athlete may start to lose some weight and strength that
they gained during the off season period of training. A clear difference can be seen in the overall
goal of in season training compared to off season training. Maintaining strength rather than trying to
build strength during the season can prevent an athlete from the effects of overtraining. Generally
an athlete should focus on maintaining strength and staying flexible during the physically
demanding load of the season. All in all off season training is more taxing whereas in season
training centers around maintaining strength and energy as well as the flexibility of the athlete.

Juvenile Delinquents
Negative effects of juvenile delinquency and juvenile incarceration, includes mental health, social
relationships, and education of the individual, which impacts on families, school, and wider
community (Lambie Randell, 2013). These factors can have damaging effects that contribute to
recidivism and other unfavourable outcomes. Development/Learning There is New Zealand
evidence which show that juvenile delinquents are a vulnerable population that are likely to
experience long term maladaptive outcomes, for instance, poor self regulation and self control
(Sutherland, 2011). Research shows that having the ability to delay gratification and to regulate
emotions are linked to positive developmental success (Sutherland, 2011). This includes children s
learning and education. Young delinquents are likely to experience academic failure, have low
intelligence, lack student interest, and have behavioural problems (Macfarlane, 2004, cited in

She has more endurance than you would expect to fit in such a small body, her kindness level is

became a problem when Teigen was asked to be put in two years ahead in math instead of just
one. The only issue was the fact that technically she already was. My point about all of this, is
the fact that she isn t only advanced in math, but technically all the other subjects too. So school
wise she is perceived as a genius. When she does a math assignment, she will get everything
right. On tests, she is the one who gets the highest score when everyone else didn t do so hot. If

Organizational Culture at Chrysler
Organizational culture
Organizational culture can loosely be defined as the shared assumptions, beliefs, and normal
behaviors (norms) of a group. These are powerful influences on the way people live and act, and
they define what is normal and how to sanction those who are not normal. To a large degree, what
we do is determined by our culture.
Organizational culture is similar to, say, regional culture. The same person in different
organizations (or parts of the same organization) would act in different ways.
Culture is very powerful. (One example is the cultural change effort at British Airways, which
transformed an unprofitable airline with a poor reputation into a paragon of politeness and profit).
An example: Cultural change at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Trimmer said planners were speaking out for customer wants and needs in the initial stages...and

Everyone who would be involved participated to harness the best ideas and creativity.
Even the assembly line workers were included; with the new Ram trucks, they were working with
engineers six months before production started. Mechanics were consulted early, to help prepare
the cars and trucks for real life maintenance.
Product teams followed vehicles through their development to identify systems and process
issues. Today, we feel we have a lot more facts, and more of a groundswell of information that
comes from groups of people who know exactly what we re trying to do, reported Robert Johnson
of Dodge Trucks.
Agreeing on Objectives
One change which helps to keep projects pure is setting down objectives clearly, at the
beginning. Core objectives were agreed on at the beginning by all parties; because Everybody
agrees up front and we stick to the plan, (Bernard Robertson, Jeep/Truck team), there were no last
minute changes in focus, which can result in expensive disasters (such as the Corvair, Vega, and
Fiero). Because everyone was involved in setting goals, they took responsibility for living up to
them.

160 countries (www.xerox.com/about xerox, 2011). With over 130,000 employees, human resources
is vitally important to the corporation. This paper will examine how human resource professionals

minorities will be identified. Finally, there will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A compilation of these actions allowed Xerox to increase its profitability. An organization s best
advertisement is its employees. When one is proud of where they work and their company
values, they will share that information with family, friends and anyone who will listen about
the great and diverse organization they work for. This would peak the interest of others who
would also like to bring their skills and competencies to Xerox. Next, customers are more likely
to purchase products and services from people who look like them. So to have a diverse
workforce would mean that people from all walks of life and nationalities will patron your
company. Lastly, Xerox was proactive in its attitudes towards diversity and developed programs and
initiatives to address it. By promoting an inclusive environment they took steps to alleviate and/or
avoid potential complaints and lawsuits related to discrimination in the workplace. All of these
action plans added value to the organization.
Changes that Xerox Made to Become a More Attractive Employer for Women and Minorities
The National Employment Lawyers Association was so concerned about the abuse many workers

  • 2. Analysis Of Bacon Rebellion Brice Everson Mrs. Blomme Honors I 30 September 2014 Bacon s Rebellion The definition of courage as defined by Dictionary.com is the ability to do something that frightens one. A rebellion takes courage. It s not something the average human being can do. One cannot simply expect just anyone to verbally stand up for what they believe is right. Courage is not something found in a common human being. Sure, everyone has it somewhere deep down, but as for that select group of people who aren t afraid to stand up for what they believe is right: They are the ones that make a difference. Nathaniel Bacon wasn t by any means a great man but he definitely wasn t afraid to take charge of a situation that involved him, directly or indirectly, and stand up for himself. He was the type of relentless figure that made a difference in history because he had one thing we all strive to have: Courage. Bacon s Rebellion, also known as the Virginia Rebellion, took place in Jamestown, Virginia in 1676. Bacon s Rebellion was probably one of the most confusing yet intriguing chapters in Jamestown s history (McCulley). This rebellion is considered to be the first stirring of revolutionary sentiment in America,...(McCulley). It is still disputed by historians today about whether the attack by Nathaniel Bacon on the governor of Virginia, Sir William Berkeley, was justified or not. It all started in 1675, during the Susquehannock War. Many Virginians disagreed on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hunters in the Snow is a story about three friends, Tub, Frank, and Kenny, who go hunting in the snow. Wolff writes about humanity through the friendship of the three friends and the events they go through. In the beginning of the story is Tub, he is standing on the sidewalk. A truck comes around the corner, in the truck is Kenny, the driver, and Frank. The trio heads towards the woods where Kenny wanted to hunt. Through the story, Tub gained confidence to confront his friends and the courage to reveal his secret (86 99). The mysterious and calm man of the trio is Frank, a protagonist. He is first introduced sitting in the truck while picking up Tub. Frank is laid back, yet joins with Kenny to insult Tub. Though later, Frank apologizes to Tub. When Tub tells him his secret, Frank is supportive and buys him four plates of pancakes. Frank believes in letting nature run its course and not fight against it. After losing the deer, Frank calms Kenny saying Relax [...] You can t hurry nature. If we re meant to get that deer, we ll get it. If we re not, we won t (89). Contradictory to his personality is his wedding ring, a gold ring with an F in diamonds. When they begin hunting, Kenny hints about a certain babysitter, which aggravates Frank. When he and Tub stop to warm themselves, Frank exposes his secret that he is having an affair with his fifteen year old babysitter. He says with amazement that she has opened up new worlds to him, the cause of his hippie personality. Frank commits the crime of lust; however, he takes into consideration of his wife and children if he divorces. Planning A Funeral Research Paper 2 Important Things You Need To Know When Planning A Funeral The information contained here will provide insights necessary to help you and your family create a meaningful funeral planning experience that both honors the life of your loved one and starts you on the path to healing from your loss. A lot people are not ready to plan and carry out a funeral ceremony for their loved one. Incidentally, majority of the information available on this subject has failed to address what is most important: having a personalized, meaningful funeral that helps families and friends to heal the loss or death of someone we cherish. The remembering, reflecting and choices that take place in the planning and conducting of the Funeral Service are often an important part of the process of mourning. And ultimately, this process of deep thinking and discovery creates a memorable and moving funeral experience for all who attend. Why Have a Funeral? When we pass through the death of someone we love, a funeral service fills several important needs. There are two reasons why we have a funeral: First, it provides for the honorable and respectful care of the person and special tribute to the life of such a person. Secondly, it helps those left behind to face the reality of death. 2.What meaningful choices are! Meaningful choices are those informed funeral choices we make that help our family and friends to create a meaningful funeral at the death of a loved one. The time of making meaningful choices is not the time to deny your need to mourn and embrace painful feelings of grief in the coming days. Rather you may feel deep sadness as you plan this funeral and begin to acknowledge the reality that someone who you love has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There seems to be a general consensus of what counts as wisdom, however, when asked for a definition acting with regards to knowledge and understanding is commonly used. While this definition is certainly workable, it does not go very deep into this vast concept. How exactly do knowledgeand understanding interact to reach the level of wisdom? There is not a whole lot of work done analyzing the process of acting wisely. One such attempt is made by Jason Swartwood, who claims that wisdom can be thought of as an expert skill. He claims that wisdom is the same kind of epistemic achievement as expert decision making. This approach to wisdom allows for interesting insight into this topic and can begin to look... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the more pressing questions is the ability to identify wisdom. Identifying wisdom is something that is fairly common among people even without such in depth knowledge. Along the lines of identifying wisdom, how do heuristics play into this discussion? Heuristics are any sort of approach to solving a problem that is sufficient in achieving immediate goals. Typically when applied to games, they are approaches at playing in the most optimal fashion in the widest variety of scenarios. One of the great things about heuristics is that it is not always necessary for these heuristics to be developed by an individual and can be passed to people who may be very new to these situations or scenarios. Someone fairly new to the game of chess could be given a set of heuristics with which to play by such that they could fair very well in the tournament. There are a couple main components to the notion of heuristics, which could cause interesting cases under Swartwood s account for wisdom. This beginning chess player could very well appear to be acting wisely in this tournament, but would they actually acting wisely? The first aspect of heuristics is their ability to achieve short term goals. Now the part of Swartwood s argument that this would focus on is the domain in which his argument is concerned and the ability to grasp success reasons to perform an ... How Theme Shapes a Story Running Head: Theme How Theme Shapes a Story By Trina Carr English 125 Instructor: Clifton Edwards Running Head: Themepage 1 Like many people who haven t studied literature, if someone asked me what the theme of a story was, I would have given a synopsis of the story detailing the actions and characters in it. As I have come to learn, theme is much more than a distilled retelling of a story. Theme gives a story a deeper meaning. The theme focuses the story and is the behind the scenes force that propels the story forward. In other words it gives the story purpose and shape. Running Head: Themepage 2 She furthers uses an image like the missing pine trees, which are a symbol of immortality, to bring to life the understanding that death has arrived. When Rhys uses cold the reader and the character herself realize the meaning of the journey death. The introduction of cold allows the reader to understand that the journey has come to an end and is irreversible. Character also builds theme in a story. According to our text when looking at how characters shape theme you should ask how do characters make a particular aspect of the underlying area clear? (Clugston, R 2010) This is a good place to start when looking at Rhys story. The author used the characters thoughts and feeling to unfold the symbols in the story. The author also did not give a physical description on the woman, this adds to furthering the theme of the journey in the story. The woman is no longer a live and therefore she doesn t need a body. It is clear from the symbols pointed out by the woman that she is leading us on this journey. As the character reaches the end her journey, we as the reader does as well. Rhys layers the symbols at the end of the story so the reader begins to rapidly connect the dots in there meaning. Running Head: Themepage 3 References Bain,T. Difference Between Absolute And Nietzsche Professor s Name Course Date Escaping Modernity: Freedom and Happiness at the End of History An argument exists that there is a difference in the conception of Hegel in the relationship of agency and the absolute with that of Nietzsche and Heidegger. My argument now is that the difference in Hegel s conception of the relationship of agency and absolute is fundamentally different from that of Nietzsche and Heidegger in that, according to Hegel, we can, through reason fathom the absolute and though we constitute it, we can never be the absolute. • 10. How Did Copernicus Create A Paradigm Shift To A... This paper analyzes the veracity of the fairly commonplace belief that Nicolaus Copernicus produced a paradigm shift in the field of astronomy from the geocentric Ptolemaic model to his own heliocentric model that resembles what contemporary astronomy deems as true. The starting point is the analysis of the work put forth by Copernicus in contrast to his Ptolemaic predecessors and his heliocentric successors. The framework for this analysis is the one suggested by Thomas Kuhn in his description of a paradigm shift in the context of scientific development. The paper concludes that Copernicus deserves a lot of credit for initiating the heliocentric paradigm shift, similar to the widespread sentiment that his work revolutionized astronomy and produced a paradigm shift to a heliocentric model, but not quite the same. His work retains a large number of elements from the Ptolemaic system which prevented it from being a clear shift, but he does indeed challenge the geocentric and geostationary (that the earth is at rest) assumptions in a move that threatens the core of the Ptolemaic system. Nonetheless, his work did little more than argue from a position with weak... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kuhn himself used the term rather loosely in his landmark book The Structure of Scientific Revolutions , referring to either the laws and principles that govern scientific inquiry within a specific field or just a collection of landmark works showcasing a common body of beliefs. Although many came well equipped for the hard journey, being new to the land made it harder for them to build colonies and thrive. This is because they came across many unexpected hardships that they were not prepared for mentally and physically. In this essay, I will talk about two different groups that migrated to America and how they adjusted to the new land and the new way of life. They continued to lack food and the system they had as a government was falling apart. So they all came to the conclusion that Smith should be elected president because he had learned from the tribe how to set up and run an efficient government. Although Smith was very strict with the colonists, by being so, the colony was able to get back on their feet and thrive. Later on as time passed, Smith was injured and had to return to England. Of the 214 colonists that arrived in America, only 60 survived. The Pilgrims voyaged to America around 1602 and they were off to a bad start when it came to colonize the new land. It is apparent that before the play begins, Othellohas not yet resolved his duplicitous self image; however, throughout the action of the play, he is put in a maliciously designed situation which causes his insecurities and self doubt to breed, allowing the Venetian?s stereotype of the brutal and ignorant black man to consume Othello s eloquence and education adopted ... Its culture was compiled upon the teachings of Confucius and ancestor worship. Meanwhile in the west, the Romans solidified their authority as being a dominant force in the Mediterranean. Both the Roman Empireand the Han Empire were similar in their governments as they both supported a centralized government. On the other hand, they were different in the manner of how they dealt with foreigners and outside visitors. Although the Han Empire and the Roman Empire were alike, there are more differences between them than similarities. One difference between the two empires were their treatment with foreigners. The Hans believed that they had no need for them to be included within the Empire. However, this was not the case for the Romans. The Roman Empire would accept outsiders and tolerate them. The Empire treated the foreigners well even to the extent of making them citizens. During this time however, the Romans did not have enough people to go to war. This led them into giving the barbarians jobs in the military. Soon, there were so many foreign soldiers to the degree that almost 70% of the entire army were barbarians. I recently read an article on the negative effects of meat on the human body and on the environment. The essay was good and the argument compelling by the time I finished reading I was almost persuaded to give up eating meat and live the vegetarian life style. I spent sometime mulling over the idea of giving up my some of my favorite foods, what it would be like to never again taste a warm, tender juicy steak, or bite down it to a succulent buffalo burger. I decided that if I was going to change my life in such a drastic way I had to be sure that the benefits were all that people worked them up to be. Did I give up meat then and join the ranks of the vegetarian? While researching the topic I found that although meat does have many negative effects these effects come from over eating and gorging ourselves on meat. If meat is eaten in moderation it actually has positive effects on the body. There are tons of debates on the issue, which causes a lot of unrest among the citizens of the country. With the political debates constanly going back and forth, I well reveal the many insecurities and injustices that many of the immigrants have faced. Many have complained that because of the illegal immigrants, the competition for jobs have been fierce making it impossible to obtain a job. However, by analyzing the welfare of the immigrants, we find that many of them are fighting for minimum wage jobs. The struggle to make two ends meet alone is enough to cause a breaking point let alone the unfair treatment given to them by the biased masses. Not even the children are spared from the senseless bickering, Leaving them doomed to suffer the unjust penalties due to the lack of Immigrationreform. Immigrants have been constantly being demonized by the usual patriotic propaganda the has spawned from the people. The lack of any positive reform can t be seen in the future due to congress at a constant power struggle spiraling downward. Analyzing the Welfare effect of illegal immigration, shows the dynamic overall framework and shows why it s positive for two reasons. First, immigrants are paid less than their marginal product, and second, after an increase in immigration, domestic households find it optimal to increase their holdings of capital. • 21. Summary Of What s That Smell In The Kitchen What s That Smell in the Kitchen? What s that Smell in the Kitchen? is a poem written by Marge Piercy in 1982. Most all women can relate to this poem on so many levels; as for the men, they could learn a few things. All over America women are burning dinners food they re supposed to be bringing with calico smile on platters glistening like wax (6 7). It portrays an image that women are to cook gourmet meals for their families nightly. The poem tells about a womanwho feels outraged, jaded, and unappreciated by her husband. The first example of outrage is anger sputters in her brainpan, confined but spewing out missiles of hot fat (10 11). She is so angry that she is boiling mad she could spit fire. To imply something such as, clinker against the back of her eyes, shows feelings of being weighted down and hard to even open her eyes to see anything good. She sees red, and feels like she is carrying around a huge burden, which cannot be removed without struggle and force. If she wants to serve him anything it is a dead rat with a bomb in its belly ticking like the heart of an insomniac (13 15). She wants her husband to feel the same way she does, and lay awake at night wondering what tomorrow will bring. She wants him to feel the same dreaded trap that the next day will bring just as she experiences daily. What s that Smell in the Kitchen (Title). • 22. Environmental Effects Of Overfishing The ocean is one of the largest sources of food and income for countries all across the globe. As the fishing industry and human population grow, more and more resources are being taken out of the ocean every year. If this process continues without any type of new regulation, our oceans supply of resources will quickly start depleting. Without a sustainable output from our oceans, millions of people will be losing income that they thought they could rely on forever. While most people are not aware of this problem, over the past fifty years overfishing has developed into a huge environmental issue that could have catastrophic global effects on us in the future if left untreated. According to WorldWildlife.org, More than 85 percent of the world s fisheries have been pushed to or beyond their biological limits and are in need of strict management plans to restore them (WWL.org). This statistic shows that most of our oceans resources are being overused and depleted. Some of the the most important fishspecies, for example, the bluefin tuna, have been exploited to the point that their population s survival is at risk. The overfishing of top predators disrupts marine ecosystems and food chains, leaving a large quantity of smaller populations. This type of imbalance can be very dangerous to the oceans ecosystems by throwing off the natural order of predators. • 25. The Ludlow Massacre Of 1914 Essay The Ludlow Massacre of 1914 is one of the bloodiest strike in the American labor history. Historians have debated whether the event was a massacre of innocent lives caused by the Colorado Fuel Iron (CF I) or as a battle between the company workers and the company militiamen. The CF I stated that the event was an act of its workers to demilitarize the company and to prevent importation of strikebreakers . However, Thomas Andrews Killing for Coal: America s Deadliest Labor War introduces the concept of workscape in which gives an understanding of the event internally, above the surface and underground the mines of Colorado. Within the book, the operation of Colorado coal companies in capitalizing the coal industry lead to the formation of the mine workscape in which united coal miners underground the mines and above the surface to fight for industrial and political rights. This paper would define the concept of workscape in the definition given by Andrews, and provide evidence of the responsibility of the exploitation of capitalism in forming the mine workscape in the Colorado coal fields between the late 1800 s and early 1900 s. Furthermore, the closer inspection of several events that occurred within and outside the grounds of the Colorado coal fields related to labor unrest with the knowledge of the concept of workscape will help understand the culmination of the Ludlow massacre within the larger history of capitalism. Today traffic on the internet requires that millions upon millions of records be stored and queried each second. Data must be highly available and quickly retrievable. These requirements put together have given rise to new forms of database technologies collectively called NoSQL or Not Only SQL . NoSQL eschews the strict guidelines that govern the creation and function of traditional relational databases. These guidelines are put aside in order to rise to the new demands of an increasingly interconnected world. The rigorous standards and data definitions of relational databases give way in order to provide the ability to rapidly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... NoSQL is able to address the massive traffic loads experienced by database servers at corporations that specialize in data processing like Google, Facebook and Amazon. NoSQL technologies can provide near constant availability, massive user concurrency and lightning fast responses. There are four primary NoSQL database implementation types being used today: document based, wide column (or columnar), key value and graph. The different properties of SQL and NoSQL databases will be examined and an overview of each NoSQL implementation type along with an example will be given. ACID v. BASE: Eventual consistency Standard SQL databases adhere to what are commonly called the ACID properties. This means that the database must be atomic, consistent, isolated and durable. Atomic means that each attribute cannot be broken into sub groups. Consistent means that the database displays only the latest data; there are no older versions of data present within the database unless by design. Isolated means that no transactions will interfere with one another; i.e. two concurrent users changing the same data in the database will not end with incorrect results; the transactions will be processed separately. Durable means that once changes have been made they will remain in place and not revert to their prior state (Pritchett, 2008). The ACID properties can be crucial to certain business models; financial transactions might require ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is duplicitous of the townspeople to scrutinize the Radleys based solely on town gossip and the appearance of their home. Essay on The Tell-Tale Heart Andrew Fiddler Professor Esquivel English 1020 15 February 2013 Themes of The Tell Tale Heart Edgar Allen Poe explores the similarity of love and hate in many stories, especially The Tell Tale Heart. In The Tell Tale Heart, the narrator confesses a love for an old man whom he then violently murders and dismembers the body and hides the pieces below the floorboards in the bedroom. When the police arrive, the narrator appears normal and unshaken by the murder. Later on, the man gives in to the guilt and cannot withstand knowing anymore and not telling anyone. The narrator reveals his madness by attempting to separate the person of the old man, whom he loves, from the old man s supposedly evil eye, which triggers the narrator s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The narrator reveals his inability to recognize that the eye is the I, or identity, of the old man. The eyes symbolize the essence of human identity, which cannot be separated from the body. The eye cannot be killed without causing the man to die. According to the narrator, For it was not the old man who vexed me, but his Evil Eye. (Poe), the eye not the old man haunted him and had to be eliminated. Characterization also helps the reader understand the theme. I think that the narrator is unnamed to give the reader another sense that this whole story could happen to them, or anyone they know. It shows the theme that everyone has an evil side, and although it is hard to admit, all humans are capable of committing a murder such as this. But just like everyone is capable of committing this kind of crime, everyone also feels the guilt after the deed is done. As the story goes on, the readers can see the madness growing in the narrator. At first, he tells the story quite calmly. He even explains that after the murder, he was completely calm with the police officers. The narrator then states The officers were satisfied. My manner had convinced them. (Poe), thinking he could get by with the murder but he could not stand the guilt that came along with it. By the end of the story when he hears the heartbeat, his whole mannerism changes. He is stressed and his words and thoughts come out in a panicked tone. Interestingly, there is only one set of spoken words that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Descriptive Essay On Fast Food In our quickly growing society, full of capitalism, advertisements seem to have become the backdrop to our bustling lives. Though we seem to overlook their presence, throughout all American cities, Ads are what fill all the empty spaces, from store front windows, to big billboards in the skies. These brightly colored pictures, that flood our vision as we drive to work, or even stroll down the mall, have a more influential effect on our daily lives then we realize. A perfect example of this is with the foodindustry. Fast Food is becoming a routine stop for many Americans, as they go about their day. This is causing health to also be on the minds of consumers. You d think this would defer people from continuing their daily, fast food pit stop, but in reality, it s the industries that are changing their own advertisements to promote their healthy options instead. When you take a moment to look at the ads promoting your favorite food brands, you ll start to notice the emphasis on things such as calorie count, ingredients, and freshness of the food. You can clearly see these attributes when analyzing the three different posters, for three different food products, that I have selected. The first poster, is an image of a Heinz ketchup bottle, created using fresh slices of tomatoes. The second poster is promoting a Veggie Burger from McDonald s by forming the image of a cow using various vegetables. While the last poster is for the popular smoothie brand, Naked, in which you see a healthy looking woman running, with the words Our machines don t run on added sugar or preservatives and neither will you . While analyzing the first poster, for Heinz ketchup, your eyes quickly realizes the well known glass Heinz bottle to be made up entirely of thick slices of tomatoes. The rest of the poster is merely a red background with a small Heinz slogan at the bottom, which reads, No one grows ketchup like Heinz . The poster is simple, with only two focal points, the bottle, and the slogan. This forces the consumers to only focus on what the producer wants them to gather, which is, in this case, the idea of natural and fresh ingredients. The simplicity of the ad also seems to represent that the popular ketchup brand ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Scientific Management also known as Taylorism was developed by Frederick W. Taylor in the late nineteenth century. Taylorism is a form of job design, which stresses short, repetitive work cycles; detailed, set task sequences; a separation of task conception from task execution; and motivation linked to pay. Taylor argued that the principal objective of management should be to secure the maximum prosperity for the employer, coupled with the maximum prosperity for each employee (1911). (Huczynski, 2013) Ways to alleviate the negative effects of Taylorism especially to worker motivation and performance and find new ways to job designs came about following the introduction of the American psychologists Fredrick Hertzberg two factor theory of motivation. Hertzberg had the idea that there were two sets of factors that affected motivation and job characteristics: Motivators: These factors refer to the extent to which a job offers opportunities for achievement, creativity, responsibility, opportunities for personal growth. These are intrinsic to the job itself. Hygiene factors: These comprise issue as the nature of supervision and supervisory style, the level of pay, working conditions, and interpersonal relations. These are extrinsic to the job. For Hertzberg it was only the motivator factors that have the potential to generate satisfaction and motivation. If hygiene factors are improved, they do not result in improved motivation, but if removed, will result in demotivation. To raise levels of motivation and therefore performance, following Hertzberg theory of motivation, companies needed to ensure that the hygiene factors were in place, and to also ensure that the ... Golitsyn was also highly damaging to Angleton in another way, and one which goes much further than the Nosenko ordeal in justifying his paranoia. Angleton is noted for, even previous to meeting Golitsyn, holding the belief that the Soviet Union had a master plan to deceive the entire West, having a fundamental misunderstanding as to the Soviet s limits and believing them far more capable of espionage than they were, not helped by the previously stated defections of Fuchs and, in particular the personal betrayal of Philby. While this was always a part of his underlying paranoia, it was kicked into full gear by his affiliation with Golitsyn. Cline stated how Angleton began like this (healthily paranoid) but then overdid it... In the end, he was so obsessive that he became less effective, and ultimately did damage to the agency. It seems then there may have been two levels of Angleton s paranoia, with the first justifiable, but the second, after his connection with Golitsyn, more difficult to justify. Even so, Angleton s world view, and view of the Soviet Union, goes some way to undermining the justification for his paranoia, but the fact that he was misled by what he thought was a factual account of life within the Soviet Union could be seen as evidence that he was justified somewhat in his increasing paranoia, despite the catastrophic manifestations of that paranoia in the case of Nosenko. One of the biggest justifications for Angleton s paranoia, even arguably in his later years when Golitsyn and Nosenko sealed the end of his CIA career, comes from events that took place after his resignation and the airing of the Family Jewels before Congress, one of Angleton s most high profile public appearances. If you know that you are not financially stable or even wanting a baby protect yourself as much as possible. Just like a man who robs a bank knows there is a chance of him going to jail, females need to realize that when having sex there is a chance she may become pregnant. So now all that s left to ask is, what is the difference between me murdering for respect and murdering just because I can or because I didn t do what was right? Adults as well as teenagers need to become more aware of the consequences that come along with sex. If you are old enough to lie in the bed, be able to make it. The solution I propose is to limit abortion. For example, a woman should only be given the option of abortion only when they have been raped or exposed to incest. Rape and incest often leave women severely hurt or in worst case scenarios pregnant. A female as well as her child should not have to go through life wondering where they came from or even who. When studies were taken only one percent of all women who proceeded to get the procedure done was due to rape or incest. A woman other than these circumstances should be punished just as badly as someone who has murdered another. Development/Learning There is New Zealand evidence which show that juvenile delinquents are a vulnerable population that are likely to experience long term maladaptive outcomes, for instance, poor self regulation and self control (Sutherland, 2011).
