1. This course helped me learn lots of new information about
pronouncing English vowels and consonants, as my first language is
Arabic I found some difficulty pronouncing some of them, but this
course not only helped me to pronounce English properly but it allowed
me to speak fluently and exactly like native speakers, which was easy
once I knew what I was doing wrong. First let me tell you about some of
the phonemes I learned for instance /t/, /k/and /s/.
The first phoneme that I chose is the /t/ phoneme which is a
voiceless strong stop consonant and if we compare it with / /ط in Arabic
in this case occurs partial transfer across the two languages for
example: (Town – طريق ), but if we compare /t/ with //ت we will find
that a full transfer takes place for example: ( –تينTune). Sometimes my
first language pushes me to pronounce the //ط instead of //ت but I
managed to overcome this problem all thanks to taking this course.
Secondly I’m going to talk about the /k/phoneme which is a strong
stop consonant and is very similar to //ك in my first language and here
happens full transfer for example: (Cap-)كاتب . I find this phoneme really
easy and simple and I have no problem pronouncing it at all.
Finally the/s/ and //س here happens full transfer between Arabic
and English phonemes, the/s/ is a strong friction consonant , moreover
2. when I say (Sand-)سيارة i produce the exact sound in Arabic and in
English and this is in my humble opinion the easiest phoneme I’ve ever
studied because I never faced any difficulty saying it.
To sum up, this course allowed me to expand my knowledge and
aided me to speak like native speakers for me it was an interesting and
eye opening experience.
